I have seen this come up a few times in the press recently. Is it bad to not recognise yourself? Like really bad?

Only if you're not in disguise.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Thursday, 15 April 2004 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't recognise myself in the mirror at the moment. But it's due to having a different haircolour than the haircolour I had for, oh, 20 years or so.

Super-Kate (kate), Thursday, 15 April 2004 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

this happens all the time

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 15 April 2004 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it means you're Dracula.

curious person, Thursday, 15 April 2004 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

grown so ugly

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 15 April 2004 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

For a shock, don't look in the mirror, grow your hair, don't shave, and work outside everyday in a summer. Then check yourself out someplace you usually are not (like say, a Denny's outside of Des Moines). Wow.

confusedly coming onto a reflection of yourself in a club: classic

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Thursday, 15 April 2004 13:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Except when you try and hit on yourself.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

that's what i mean! hasn't happened 2 me yet (although i think i could mistake myself for a sexy lady) but i know a young man of my aquaintance, who likes other young men, and was so fucked one night that he was doing sexy dancing to his literal mirror image...

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Act II : in which the Glasgow club scene plays backdrop to a series of unconvincing updates of classical myths.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Did he manage to fuck himself that night?

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I never dared ask...

now i'm thinking how to rewrite the odyssey based on Optimo after parties...

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

It's quite reassuring to consider your reflection attractive in the second or so before you recognise yourself.

ferg (Ferg), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Like 'hey, if there were two Mes I would fuck the other one, super!'

ferg (Ferg), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

It feels so good to see 'Optimo' in the Optimum typeface.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Optima! I mean.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 15 April 2004 23:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Meconnaissance! or, what you previously beheld in that mirror was never really "you" in the first place.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 15 April 2004 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

really fun when you think you see a parent in the mirror for a sec.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 15 April 2004 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Thankfully my dad never had long hair.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 April 2004 00:23 (twenty-two years ago)

um, do you people realise that a mirror reflex an image? are you that absent-minded? c'mon now

todd swiss (eliti), Friday, 16 April 2004 00:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I just have Magoo-like eyesight.

ferg (Ferg), Friday, 16 April 2004 00:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Although, I am also that absent minded.

ferg (Ferg), Friday, 16 April 2004 00:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh god I did this once, fer'reals. Waiting in fitting room for friend. "gee, that girls is wearing the same shirt as me...holy shit that's my own reflection!"

Dunno of if this was do to absentmindedness or lack of ability in the arena of facial recognition.

mouse, Friday, 16 April 2004 01:16 (twenty-two years ago)

um, do you people realise that a mirror reflex an image?

what?

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 16 April 2004 07:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I thin most of the time when this happens it's not so much failing to recognize oneself in a mirror as it is failing to recognize that you are looking into a mirror in the first place. Like, the only time it's ever happened to me is when I've been in those rooms in restaurants and stuff where the upper half of the walls are all mirror to give the illusion that the room is reall big.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 16 April 2004 07:36 (twenty-two years ago)

think

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 16 April 2004 07:36 (twenty-two years ago)

and "really"! (jeez, I must be tired)
