i'm wearing a green ponys tshirt (they have a rather retro-twee logo), a zipup hoodie, dark jeans, rainbow stripe socks, and black steel-capped oxfords. i don't what happened when i got dressed this morning, but for some reason i was convinced that i was 17 again.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I've got a smiths T-shirt on, but it's covered up by a check shirt. i am also wearing brown cords (a Primark bargain £8. thank fuck for sweatshops.*)

not that indie, but then i never was really...

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I am waving two castanets and singing "Window"

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going to see the Pixies tonight. I could be wearing a fucking leotard under a blue Hugo Boss blazer and I'd still be the indiest motherfucker around. Today.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

it might be time to stop thinking of youth large as a viable shirt size.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

The first CD I played today was a Kill Rock Stars comp. I believe I win this thread hands-down.

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I am wearing a Paul Frank shirt, black pants, rainbow socks, a Hello Kitty bandana, and my hair is in two ponytails. And, uh, the standard regulation indie glasses.

Uh oh.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha, I wear youth mediums! Right now, I have on a holey old tight red t-shirt with "WhereinthehellisNewBerlinWisconsin?" across the chest and with the sleeves ripped off, Levis that keep slipping off my hips, striped socks and baby blue Pumas. And my hair is really greasy and gross and in pigtails. I look more "slept in a dumpster" than indie.

kirsten (kirsten), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

If you were a guy this thread would be yours.

winterland, Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

not baggy cords, fred perry polo shirt and brown pi$$catchers, a bit britpop I suppose

chris (chris), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, I believe you get bonus points for, y'know, being you.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Whenever I read this thread title I'm imagining being asked it by a barber , for some reason. "And how indie are we today, sir?"

winterland, Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm drinking tea and I brought a Pavement CD to work with me. Oh, and I'm going to see Will Oldham play tonight. In an art gallery.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm wearing sandals and farting a lot, so I think I lose.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

sleeping in a dumpster is so indie

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i gazed at my shoe throughout today's work meeting. is that indie? although i have a day time job which i guess loses me indie cred.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm wearing a suit. And a tie. I'm so not indie.

But hey, wait, they changed the definitions of what indie is, so I guess I am indie after all. I'm so confused.

Super-Kate (kate), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm so indie I'm on my way to Academy to SELL CDS.

Also, I'm downloading Messthetics #6 from slsk.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

i almost wore one of my casiotone for the painfully alone shirts, which would have bumped me up another notch i think.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Erm, I got a mate a gig at The Spitz this morning. Isn't that indie?

Super-Kate (kate), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Aw, hi Kenbo!
x-x-x-post

kirsten (kirsten), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Am wearing a home made Neu! t-shirt I made about 1986

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Ballet shoes, maroon corduroy a-line skirt, horn rimmed squarish glasses. I think the boat-neck 3/4 sleeve top isn't particularly indie though.

Going to an art show tonight (but got free tix through the Tourist Board which is far too corporate)

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm wearing a Candle Records t-shirt. I am so twee indie it hurts. NB I am not Australian or living in Australia.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I have on a holey old tight red t-shirt with "WhereinthehellisNewBerlinWisconsin?" across the chest and with the sleeves ripped off

Ha, that's awesome.

I feel reasonably indie today. I listened to a Burning Airlines cd (for the first time in like a year) on the way to work, I've got blue jeans and a navy button-up shirt on, and I'm wearing my black plastic glasses as I do everyday (actually, they're red under the light).

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

first listened to the new self-released Five-Eight disc, am now on Skywave's _Synthstatic_. later tonight, i get to type my interviews with Dykehouse & Mastodon, & review the new Dykehouse & Franz Ferdinand discs. I'm wearing a black t-shirt with a bold white "THNIK" written across it.

i'm also drinking diet dr pepper.

i'm about average, i 'spose.

Kingfish Balzac (Kingfish), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

pastels t-shirt, listening to icelandic pop (new mum cd). how did i do?

andy

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

nice job!

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

this thread is what's wrong with ILX.

ronan f (jaymc), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I am not very indie today, I dress like I'm a member of the Band. Cheapo cords, old shirt, scuffed DM boots, M&S jumper, suede jacket.

Though, I have listened to Mum and Of Montreal Today.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't been indie since 1995.

(certain people on this bitch may disagree with the above)

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I am not very indie today, I dress like I'm a member of the Band. Cheapo cords, old shirt, scuffed DM boots, M&S jumper, suede jacket.

haha "not very indie" :-)

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

well, the trendy indie fuxors wouldn't think I'm indie, but I guess yeah, I'm old school indie.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

yes Barry, I saw you as recently as 2002 sitting on top of a hill playing B&S tunes on a recorder

chris (chris), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

being indie's far too stressful for me these days...

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I am very un-indie! I in fact look like one of those retro-styled twats who I generally mock on the streets of Soho. Arses!

Actually I listened to Camper Van Beethoven and the Bats this morning so I think I lose after all.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

There is very little indie rock I like, I've only just realized this.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Charcoal grey pinstripe suit, white shirt, dark blue Hugo Boss tie, black lace-up shoes.

Recent listening: Mum, Belle And Sebastian, Ant, Lambchop, The Pines, Camera Obscura, Chris Leonard.

Maybe I'm little confused.

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not actually indie at all btw, I just get mistaken for it sometimes. I mean, I can probably count the number of actual rock bands I listen to on two hands.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

retro-styled twats = very indie, surely?

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

The first thing I put on this morning was an early Soup Dragons 7 inch, I read some Phillip Larkin over lunch. I'm wearing a Kevin Shields regulation Parka, Higsons tour T-Shirt and am typing this via wi-fi from outside Salford Lad's Club.

mzui, Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I bought a nice shades of orange strippy shirt today.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I am wearing pinstriped pajamas, drinking espresso, listening to Basement Jaxx, and worrying about my tax return. Nicht so indie, I don't think.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I am going to go listen to my Working Holiday box set now.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

also, i just had to talk to a broker in San Jose who so happily discussed how housing rates out there are going beyond normalcy again.

"Well, we just had a $500K condo that went for SEVENTY thousand over asking price! can ya believe that?"

"oh, uhm, yeah."

so all things balance out, i guess.

Kingfish Balzac (Kingfish), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I am a Native American eating currie in Bloomington.

Harrison Ford (Horace Mann), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Well only ftb I am wearing a black pleated skirt for crying out loud!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Wearing blue Belle & Sebastian t-shirt (size: small), big blue jumper that's a good size or two too big, and some brown trousers with holes in the pockets. Still haven't had a haircut since about this time last year. Spent today listening to Bearsuit and writing a little piece in praise of 'Beat Mama' by Cast on Stylus' blog. I'm pretty much par for the course, I suppose.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 15 April 2004 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

ohhh i love bearsuit! im lying in bed in my red Slumber Party t-shirt and red plaid boxers and listening to Call and Response "Rollerskate"

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 15 April 2004 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Phil, where is Fernando?

kirsten (kirsten), Thursday, 15 April 2004 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

ALSO, I AM USING A MAC AND GOING TO GO DRINK PBR TONIGHT!

Ok I am guilty of both of those too usually except I bought Schells a local beer that costs less than PBR.

I just woke up (its almost 4pm), but I will but on some dirty jeans and a polo shirt I probably got at goodwill and old-school black high top Reeboks. (nothing very indie here)

I went to a used record store on Monday and purposely tried to avoid being indie. I didn't pick up that Kill Rock Stars comp or a bunch of other indie shit I would buy normally. But I ultimately failed because I bought the Yank Crime reissue (even though I had the old version on cdr) and MF Doom's instrumental record "Special Herbs vol 1 and 2" and a really old Def Jux comp because it had Company Flow songs on it.

Right now Eamon is playing on the college radio station where I do a show every Wednesday.

I am ashamed and confused myself more than anything. I am going to skip the only class I haven't dropped now and listen to promo CDs instead.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Thursday, 15 April 2004 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Sam, it would involve seeing a penis. Keep this in mind.

...in bed. (Chris Piuma), Thursday, 15 April 2004 19:59 (twenty-two years ago)

a cute penis, even.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 15 April 2004 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i quite enjoy seeing pensies.

i just don't like being force fed when i've already said I wasn't hungry.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Thursday, 15 April 2004 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

are penises indie?

christhamrin (christhamrin), Thursday, 15 April 2004 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

They're more emo than indie.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 15 April 2004 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

yes. but one doesn't talk about them.

indie people's sexual responses are limited to sighing, and occasionally kissing (perhaps even smooching). Anything further than that is considered inappropriate, in fact, wrrrrooooongggg.

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Thursday, 15 April 2004 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not sure, are uncut penises more indie than cut ones?

...in bed. (Chris Piuma), Thursday, 15 April 2004 20:39 (twenty-two years ago)

That might be a U.S.-centric question.

...in bed. (Chris Piuma), Thursday, 15 April 2004 20:39 (twenty-two years ago)

undoubtedly!

Well, I'm sitting here in my green Oscar's News T-shirt, boot-cut slightly faded H+M jeans and black socks and listening to The Blue Nile. I am also uncircumsized. Indie or not?

Ricardo (RickyT), Thursday, 15 April 2004 20:44 (twenty-two years ago)

well. i'm not indie, but a good proper indie boy sniggers like Bob Dylan does at the word 'breast' whenever anything untowardly sexual is mentioned.

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Thursday, 15 April 2004 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Damm! Normally I don't touch that indie stuff w/ a ten foot clown pole, but today I bought the NME and listened to a Go-Betweens CD.

Are black Converse indie?

Andrew L (Andrew L), Thursday, 15 April 2004 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i can't resist, i write for the nme, i just got a job at an indie record label (but its on a major) and i know useless gossip about four or five indie labels, am wearing a twisted nerve t-shirt, old flared jeans, indie-regulation glasses, head shaved and today i got happy because i got a bunch of brian eno promo cds. i listened to those and kinski, charlamides, neil hagerty, zongamin, faust and brian eno. at the moment i am listening to alfie. i think i just suck, though.

doomie x, Thursday, 15 April 2004 20:55 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yes, i listened to the smiths whilst visiting museums in south kensington. i may or may not have been wearing a cardigan.

doomie x, Thursday, 15 April 2004 20:57 (twenty-two years ago)

which label is it doomie? uh today i listened to a blur record, and wrote a long-winded piece about it for an online magazine.

doomie x, Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:14 (twenty-two years ago)

really? you don't like the projects? i also would have had you down as an of montreal sort of fellow

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:18 (twenty-two years ago)

nah, the projects and of montreal, just thought - oh fuck, what's the point and beat on the locust.

doomie x, Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

ha ha. 'beat on the locust' - 'put on the locust' ... nah, lately, i've been straying from indie. though am getting obsessed with the all tomorrows parties label and wrote reviews for deerhoof and mystic chords of memory. that's pretty indie, isnt it? let's see -- last shopping trip was:

fugazi
the smiths - louder than bombs
the misunderstood
low - things we lost in the fire
and a margo guryan comp.

that's pretty indie.

doomie x, Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm supposing I look indie, but i'm not indie. It's a bit of a quandry I'm in really.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Hm. I don't really do "indie" or any other label, which may be a bit rich for someone to say when they're rather known for going on and on about their New Romantic fanaticism, but I don't dress in frilly blouses, leather trousers, or Antony Price suits, nor do I have floppy streaked fringe or Kabuki theater makeup on. Here's what I wore today: forest green blouse, dressy black denim pants, black ankle-length boots, the usual jewelry, and my hair pinned back with a clip. So I'm more "hey, whatever works". Though my life was graced with a bit of "indie" today as I listened frequently to a musical artist whose works are released on a record label I hadn't even heard of until I started getting into said musical artist.

So, um, I'll be living the indie life vicariously through you guys.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Ever since I dyed my hair pink I've felt a bit too indie. Therefore I think i'm going to dye it back to it's original colour.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

non-standard hair colour is very very non-indie

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 15 April 2004 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

This morning I have listened to Magazine and Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster ON A MIX TAPE! I am wearing all black apart from BROWN HOSE. The pleated skirt lies crumpled in my room, so I am wearing a ginormously too big for me cordorouy skirt instead. Not indie. Then I came into work and listened to WHITE LINES (shaun of the dead hem hem "remix)! I am in a good mood => not indie.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 16 April 2004 07:39 (twenty-two years ago)

hey koogs did the thread get so bad that you didn't want to sign yr post with 'andy' like 'u' (writing 'u' instead of you, NOT indie) usually do.

andrew L I'm disappointed in yr answer to this thread.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 16 April 2004 07:46 (twenty-two years ago)
