And I have apparently misplaced my W-2 form.

So I throw my hands up and come to ILX, apparently.

go on the run! or perhaps organise a jail break...

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

No, my return! The only person that misses out is myself.

I'm going to try to do some kind of wild goose chasing to get it all turned in on time. Waiting on a W-2 fax from the home office.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Or call the phone number that lets you request an extension until August.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

If you're missing your W2, I don't know what to tell you. But I telefiled last night, and assuming you don't have a complicated return (i.e., you haven't worked six jobs, don't have much to deduct, etc.), it's actually pretty easy. Took me about a half hour, including preparations.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Lucky!!!

(In the sense that you are going to the place I want to live)

Aja (aja), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan, tell me more. I can not locate such a number.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't understand what "do my taxes" means in this sense (but then again I am British and it all therefore gets done for me).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

You have to fill out a form with you earnings and deductions and things and then mail it in by the deadline to get your tax return.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

*your earnings, obv.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Matt DC -- Mr. Raggett explains it a little bit in this thread.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

oops, you could call them next week & when they can't find it accuse them of mislaying it!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I am freaking. Out. Should I just let it go? It was to be my biggest return ever.

Is there actually a number I can call to get an extension? I have to pack and crap as well, god DAMN IT, why do I wait til the last second to do EVERYTHING

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 15 April 2004 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

In order to understand and solve your procrastination problems, you must carefully analyze those situations where your work is not being completed. First, determine whether the cause is poor time management; if so, you will need to learn and develop time management skills. If, however, you know how to manage your time but don't make use of those skills, you may have a more serious problem. Many individuals cite the following reasons for avoiding work:

* LACK OF RELEVANCE. If something is neither relevant nor meaningful to you personally, it may be difficult to get motivated even to begin.

* ACCEPTANCE OF ANOTHER'S GOALS. If a project has been imposed or assigned to you and it is not consistent with your own interests, you may be reluctant to spend the necessary time to see it to conclusion.

* PERFECTIONISM. Having unreachable standards will discourage you from pursuing a task. Remember, perfection is unattainable.

* EVALUATION ANXIETY. Since others' responses to your work are not under your direct control, overvaluing these responses can create the kind of anxiety that will interfere with work getting accomplished.

* AMBIGUITY. If you are uncertain of what is expected of you, it may be difficult to get started.

* FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN. If you are venturing into a new realm or field, you don't have any way of knowing how well you'll do. Such an uncertain outcome may inhibit your desire to begin.

* INABILITY TO HANDLE THE TASK. If through lack of training, skill, or ability you feel that you lack the personal resources to do the job, you may avoid it completely.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 15 April 2004 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, it's definitely not perfectionism.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 15 April 2004 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

roxymuzak LOL!

57 7th (calstars), Thursday, 15 April 2004 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

is that a command or a declaration?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 15 April 2004 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

You can print out an extension form (form 4868) from the IRS site, and send it in or file over the phone at: 1-888-796-1074

Marcel Post (Marcel Post), Thursday, 15 April 2004 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not a big deal, I don't think. If you're expecting a refund, it will take longer. If you owe, you'll owe a penalty on top of it. But they aren't going to haul you off... It might be a pain in the ass, but you'll retain possession of both legs.

(haha or look at Marcel's post oops)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 15 April 2004 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank you all SO MUCH for the info, etc.

I found a quick and easy e-filing site and did it that way. Took about thirty minutes after I got my W-2 faxed to me and everything. And I'm only getting 800 bucks back = FUCK the IRS.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 15 April 2004 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
God, halcyon days when I thought 800 dollars wasn't a lot of money?!

What should I do with me return this year? It's 1000 dollars.

I have lots of people I could pay money back to. I also need to fix my car and I also need glasses. My pets don't really need a vet visit, but they haven't been seen in a while. I could just go spend all of it on cds. Imagine!

RoxyMuzak© (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 16:29 (twenty years ago)

Settle debts, get glasses, take care of pets. Then splurge.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 16:33 (twenty years ago)

Correct me if I'm wrong but these are all either/either/or scenarios, right? IOW paying off people will not leave enough left over for glasses, etc.

Dan (Although Those Are Some Fancy-Ass Glasses) Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 16:35 (twenty years ago)

Well, it probably will. I owe each sister 100 bucks, and glasses will probably be about 200? (or something) There is another debt I need to settle of a couple hundred bucks, too. Also, rent is 300 and is due. I think I will just buy the cds.

RoxyMuzak© (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 16:40 (twenty years ago)

:-(

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 16:42 (twenty years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 16:51 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

for the first time i've misplaced my tax forms from the year previous and i am filling something out that requires information from said form; how can i obtain this information

e\m/ily (roxymuzak), Monday, 16 November 2009 04:10 (sixteen years ago)

it depends on what form it is. usually you can contact whomever sent you the form and they can get you a copy of it.
