!!!!!

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

No, I don't know if it's true, but it would be nice.

Aja (aja), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

are you replicating yourself, Aja?

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

teeny (teeny), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Why on Earth would it be nice?

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

chris (chris), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

where did you hear this, badger?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Why on Earth would it be nice?

Because this girl at my school really likes him and, she'll take it personally if you make fun of him and she claims she has one of his cell phone numbers.

Aja (aja), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

someone just said it had hit Reuters office, am trying to check if its a rumour as per the usual bollocks or real, nothing online yet

badger Kitten (badger Kitten), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Where did you hear this, stevem?

j/k, Aja

Barima (Barima), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

uh, x-post. so it's not true. ok.

aja that's not a very good reason to want someone dead!!!

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

So why don't you call her and ask her to call him and see if he's, y'know, alive?

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe you could ring up the store where his sister works and hassle her!

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I have reasons to be personally invested if it was true, so I was kinda concerned, if sceptical.

Barima (Barima), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Was the upcoming South Park episode the straw that broke the camel's back?

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

So why don't you call her and ask her to call him and see if he's, y'know, alive?

I don't know her phone number.

If this is true, she will be heart broken.

Aja (aja), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Called NME.COM to check they've not heard it. Sorry, think its bollox. <egg on face> . I thought someone here would have heard if it were a goer. I'm chasing the Reuters person to see where the rumour's from.

badger Kitten (badger Kitten), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

no Google news results or anything on the big music news sites. in a twisted way, I do kind of wish he'd just put the world out of the misery of following his exploits, though.

Let's lynch the mucky bastard. Pedofils out!

hmmm (hmmm), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

If there was any sort of substance (even wrong substance) to this, CNN would be running with it. And they're not.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I can only assume my Reuters person is pissed, or has been spoofed. Sorry again for starting rumours. None of the music journos here at IPC have picked up anything, not have the beeb. Aargh. Now I look like a plank.

badger Kitten (badger Kitten), Friday, 16 April 2004 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

People would do anything for money.
In the early 90s.I had purchased a mag stating that the real Michael was dead.I wrote to him to tell him of this.I didn't get a response from;but he has went on interviews claiming that he heard the rumours and he cleared it up.It was like the "Paul was dead situation".THey claimed that Paul Mccartney was killed in a Motorcycle accident(if you all can go back that far) ;but Michael's story was much worse. The article stated that he committed suicide due to the increased pressures on being this huge star and he was continuing trying to keep on demand.
These people should be taken on a boat to a desserted island and never heard from again.

lol, Friday, 16 April 2004 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Namibian government officials surprised by Michael Jackson’s no-show
WINDHOEK, Namibia (AP) — Namibian government officials were surprised to learn that Michael Jackson wouldn’t be arriving Friday as they had thought.
An American organization claiming to represent Jackson, St. Louis-based Adventure in Africa Tours, had sent a letter to President Sam Nujoma saying the singer planned to visit Namibia as part of a 12-day African cultural tour.
A meeting was scheduled for Jackson with the president at noon, Nujoma’s personal assistant, Andre Hashiyana, said Friday.
However, Jackson spokeswoman Raymone K. Bain said the travel company had acted without the singer’s permission.
“I guess we will do our due diligence to look into how this happened,” she said by telephone from Washington. “These things do happen quite often. There are a lot of misrepresentations and misinformation.”
Bain noted that Jackson couldn’t leave the United States because he had turned in his passport to Santa Barbara County prosecutors in California as a condition of his release after he pleaded innocent to child molestation charges. A pretrial hearing in the case is scheduled April 30.
“It is so awful how innocent people can be taken in by people who will just run with things without having the proper authorization to do so,” she said.
An official reached at Adventure in Africa Tours maintained a trip had been planned but fell through. She didn’t know why and did not give her name.
News of the supposed visit had made headlines in this southern African country. It would have been Jackson’s third trip to Namibia, where he’s immensely popular and gets a reception usually accorded visiting heads of state.

Hee hee, EDR, I read that story today, too.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 16 April 2004 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

um, i think this thread just got mentioned on the Radio 6 news...

...the jackson camp have actually officially denied that he is dead because of this story...

god the interweb's an odd place...

!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 April 2004 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Is there any sort of link to this denial or anything?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 April 2004 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

can't see anything on the bbc site, but it's possible the news bits don't get updated much on a sunday. it said the story was on a london-based interweb site, saying "breaking news: is michael jackson dead?" which isn't quite this thread title, so maybe it was someone else...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 18 April 2004 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

it might have been. what was the title for the threads on ilm?

anyway, I thought the report was referring to p*pbitch

jellybean (jellybean), Sunday, 18 April 2004 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, does "london-based website" always mean pipbotch these days?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 18 April 2004 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

dunno. but it seems to be the 'london-based website' that most journalists blame for rumours

and it's more london based that ile anyway (even though all these FAPs are trying to tell us otherwise)

jellybean (jellybean), Sunday, 18 April 2004 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

hehehe. it does say on the FAQ where the server lives though :)

How about, "Michael Jackson, 19XX-2007"? No passive voice, AND ensures that I don't think you're talking about the king of pop instead of the king of hop HA I'M GOOD.

one year passes...

According to Intouch Michael has the rare genetic disease Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency.

award-winning investigative journalist Ian Halperin tells In Touch that he believes that the King of Pop is fighting for is life. “Michael has a very severe lung condition called Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency,” Halperin, a New York Times best-selling author, tells In Touch exclusively. “He’s had it for years but it’s gotten worse. He needs a lung transplant but may be too weak to go through with it. He also has emphysema and chronic gastrointestinal bleeding, which his doctors have had a lot of trouble stopping. It’s the bleeding that is the most problematic part. It could kill him.”

Because this genetic disease is so rare - Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency affects just 1 in 5,000 Americans - it’s been difficult to treat, says Halperin. “For years, Michael has been working with his own doctors to make sure his condition doesn’t progress. He has been on many medications that have stabilized him.” But as the disease has progressed, Halperin says that the pop star’s quality of life has diminished. “He can barely speak,” says Halperin. “Also, the vision in his left eye is 95 percent gone.”

Report: Jackson battling serious staph infection
British newspaper says singer contracted MRSA-like ailment after surgery

Michael Jackson is being treated for a staph infection that has spread throughout his face and body, according to the Sun newspaper. A report in the British newspaper says the 50-year-old singer is receiving intravenous antibiotics to try and halt the spread.

A source told the Sun that it is a “MRSA-style infection” that is resistant to conventional antibiotics. The Sun reported that Jackson contracted the infection following reconstructive surgery on his nose.

The Times of London reported that the skin on Jackson's face and hands appeared inflamed in photos taken recently of the singer as he left a Los Angeles-area clinic.

In December, biographer Ian Halperin told a British newspaper that Jackson was suffering from Alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency and was in need of a lung transplant. Jackson's “official and sole spokesperson, Dr. Tohme Tohme” denied the report, saying in a statement, “The writer’s wild allegations concerning Mr. Jackson’s health are a total fabrication. Mr. Jackson is in fine health.”

The Times was unable to reach Jackson's spokesman for comment.
