Imagine the possibilities! As if Hitchhikers Guide wasn't already in cult status?

From Playlouder.com:

COSMOS DEF
Rapper to play Ford Prefect in movie adaptation of Douglas Adams classic
16 Apr 2004

Disney are about to start filming a new version of Douglas Adams' classic space odyssey 'A Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy' - and word has it Mos Def has been cast as Ford Prefect.

Ford is an undercover alien who sets off on an intergalactic journey with earth pal Arthur Dent, played by the Office's Martin Freeman.

The film begins shooting this month in London, with Garth Jennings at the helm.

Others cast include John Malkovich as religious cult leader Humma Kavula, created by the late author especially for the film, which has been threatening to be made for quite a while now.

Zooey Deschanel and Sam Rockwell also star.

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 17 April 2004 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Saturday, 17 April 2004 17:39 (twenty-two years ago)

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 17 April 2004 17:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Love the search function and it will love you!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 17 April 2004 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Search the other thread about this where I talk about my history of working in very close quarters w/ Garth Jennings.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 17 April 2004 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

And this thread too even!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 17 April 2004 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Visions of Hitchhiker midnight matinees (20 yrs on) already dance in my head, a la Rocky Horror.

...except this news is a few months old now. ;-)

There may have been a few hundred round here that missed out the first time round, though. Since when does hope have an expiration date?;>

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Saturday, 17 April 2004 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

neither of those threads answer my question about whether or not adams finished this screenplay, or it was adapted by someone else, or rewritten by someone else, or what. although I'm not really sure that someone else writing it is a bad thing.

Archives, archives! (Seriously, my point is -- search the archives first and revive a thread rather than create a duplicate new one. It is part of the advantage of ILXor's programming.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 17 April 2004 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

okay, thanks imdb, the screenplay was rewritten by Karey Kirkpatrick of Chicken Run and James and the Giant Peach fame! Not bad.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Saturday, 17 April 2004 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

shynola have apparently signed on to do all the guide animation sequences!

At least, it might be able to be marketed as an avant-garde cartoon for genius children.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Saturday, 17 April 2004 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't know what that means.

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 17 April 2004 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Not the first time (and I usually do check, anyway), but point taken.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Saturday, 17 April 2004 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't know what that means.

I mean that even if the live sequences suck (overacting, stilted perfs are possibilities), the animation may still render the flick worth watching.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Saturday, 17 April 2004 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

wonderful sentence

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 17 April 2004 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

oh! kinda like an avant-garde cartoon for genius children!

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 17 April 2004 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha!

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Saturday, 17 April 2004 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Saturday, 17 April 2004 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

why do i suddenly feel like rjg?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 18 April 2004 07:51 (twenty-two years ago)

eleven months pass...
OH MY GOD, WHERE IS THE ANTICIPATE THREAD?!?!?

Sorry, I can't find it.

Anyway, I just got given vouchers to see the advance preview on 26th April. Admits two - anyone want to be my date? I'll probably go to the Hammersmith showing.

WE ARE THE KATE!!! (kate), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 08:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Oooh, Kate, I'll be your dog! It's worth taking the next day off for, I reckon. WHat time IS the advance preview?

Johnney B (Johnney B), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 08:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Doors at 6pm, starts at 6.30. Can you make it down by then?

I've got to pick up the tickets next week. (Dammit the same day as I'm supposed to be doing the River Thames cleanup.)

WE ARE THE KATE!!! (kate), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 08:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm - that might be a bit of a stretch actually. 7.30 I could probably do, but 6.30 would be pushing it. I'm afraid I'll have to um, how do they say it across the pond, "put a rain inspection on this one".

Johnney B (Johnney B), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 09:01 (twenty-one years ago)

whoa kate, where did you get them from?

emsk, Wednesday, 6 April 2005 09:04 (twenty-one years ago)

My colleague just handed them to me! I love working at a marketing agency sometimes.

Aw, Johnney, too bad. Another time, another premier. Emsk, you up for it?

WE ARE THE KATE!!! (kate), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i work 3 minutes from the UGC in Hammersmith but am probably otherwise engaged (and won't know for certain until the day before) 8(

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 09:13 (twenty-one years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 06:18 (twenty-one years ago)

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 06:21 (twenty-one years ago)

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 06:36 (twenty-one years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 06:38 (twenty-one years ago)

zooey, yeah.

Remy (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 07:03 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe regional, is it opening in NYC before the rest of the country (probably)?

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

naw these are like national broadcasts like espn and stuff and they say "opening april 29th everywhere."

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i think its weird that they are marketing it as a SCI FI EPIC rather than a comedy

charleston charge (chaki), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

it's both!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)
