we had to replace a water heater and wanted it outside so the plumber had to cut a hole in the wall to redirect the plumbing and our 2nd bathrooms therefore had a huge hole in the wall so i pulled the whole plasterboard wall off and am gonna replace/repaint. the tiles at skirting board level are a bastard and theres also a powerpoint and the dunny water pipe to come through the wall.
i have never done this before. how hard can it be? measure. snap the gyprock to size. disconnect the electrix and the water. cut wee holes (using a drill and a hacksaw blade???) in the new gyprock at the right spots. wack the new boards in. nail. replace the tiles.

Most important tools: plasterboard nails, plasterboard saw, hammer.

Don't try and snap , it with crumble, or use any other kind of saw, you'll ruin the saw.

Procedure: Cut plasterboard to size, Nail to studs, drill holes for pipes (using appropriate sized drill bits. For waste pipes and the electrical socketmark out the shape of the hole and drill out just inside the lines, like stamp perforations. then use a hamer and bolster/cold chisel to knock out the holes. Insert the wall boxes, wire up electrics, plaster (two layer please single coat plaster is a myth), replumb, paint, tile, job done

Ed thanks. there's some problem in that the floor tiles were done after the wall. i've taken the tiles at skirting board level out but there are still bits of the old plasterboard lodged in and sticking out of the floor between the studs and the tiles. how can i dig these out? shoulsd i get a stanley knife, score them and snap...would that work?

similar probs at the inside corners...the tape ( a kind of latticed tape) is still stuck to the walls i don't want to touch (or damage obv) and some of the orig wwall is connected. should i just go over the top?

also i am slightly nervous about "snapping" the plasterboard to size...can i just slit the paper and cut with a saw?

or is it easy?

Don't pull that tape whatever you do, you'll find it'll run right along the wall. If you pull it, you'll have a *really* bad situation on your hands. However, it's very handy for reinforcing holes in plaster.
