Curves GYM is run by an anti-abortionist fuckhead!

I know so many women in SF who go to this gym (which on the surface sounds really cool--all women, all sizes, etc) but UNFORTUNATELY what they all seem completely unaware of is that the owner is Gary Heavin, a card carrying member of the "I want to be just like Tom Monaghan and use the profits for my business to prevent women in the US from having access to safe and legal abortions" club. ICK ICK ICK.

whoa, where did you find this out? that will sink them in the bay area. although I read last year that this was actually one of the fastest growing franchises in the country.

Apparently there was a little blurb in Jon Carrol's article in the Chronicle. A friend told me and then I typed the owner's name and abortion into google.

while this may be news in the bay area, i doubt it's going to really have much impact on them in many other places.

my mom went to this gym for a while, and while she's pro-choice and had an abortion herself, i doubt she would have stopped going had she read this briefly in the paper one morning.

True, but I'd like them to be out of business in the bay area.

there's one of these places a few blocks from where i live in hoboken. just from appearances, i would NEVER have guessed that it's run by pro-life fuckheads -- in fact, it kinda seems almost like a HIPPIE work-out joint!
