have you done this before? is it sane? should you just look for a job where you get paid more?

i mean, i can tell right now before i even start that it's dud, but i'm just looking for some context

A roomate of mine used to constantly have two jobs, and go to class full time. It kinda works out if you dont mind, you know, being at work all the time.

he also used to quit all sorts of jobs and tended not to give a fuck about doing well or anything like that.

I dunno, sometimes it can be OK. I think it's easier to handle if the two jobs are completely different. I did it for about 6 months a while back and it made the daytime boring one infinitely more bearable 'cause the evening one was much more creative and enjoyable.

i am thinking it wont be too bad, since my day job already consists mostly of standing around and reading magazines

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 22 April 2004 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

It sucks satans cock. I had two jobs once - I'd rather be poor.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Thursday, 22 April 2004 22:48 (twenty-two years ago)

since i cant afford to live on what i am making now its kind of a moot point, really

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 22 April 2004 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i had about 7 jobs at one time. not all were regular hours obv. it was kind of hard to juggle. the good points were that i never really got too bored and i often found myself at a loose end at strange hours.

are you full time at the store jess?

mullygrubber (gaz), Thursday, 22 April 2004 23:11 (twenty-two years ago)

no, only about 30 hours. but the problem is more that the salary is barely above subsistence level.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 22 April 2004 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

if i was working 40 hours a week i MIGHT be able to scrape by on it, just barely

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 22 April 2004 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

so it should be ok in terms of not feeling like you're always working to add just a few more hours...you need to get a little cash in hand job.

mullygrubber (gaz), Thursday, 22 April 2004 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i really just need maybe 20 more hours a week. no, what i actually need to do is find a job that pays more than 7 dollars an hour, but whatever.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 22 April 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't mind. i've spent two years sitting on my ass writing, so i can't complain much.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 22 April 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i find it strange you can't make up the extra with a bit of scribbling, but hey i know nothing of that stuff.

you need an extra 10 hours at $20 an hour.

mullygrubber (gaz), Thursday, 22 April 2004 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

haha well i have about $1000 owed to me right now, by my reckoning, but you know "checks in the mail, dude"

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 22 April 2004 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

how about the army?

mullygrubber (gaz), Thursday, 22 April 2004 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

well they're gonna reinstate the draft soon, anyway

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 22 April 2004 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

though i might be too old for that

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 22 April 2004 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Stars and Stripes always needs a rock critic to review the latest "let's kick some brown ass" single.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 22 April 2004 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

i just thought: what you need jess is a kind of seasonal job. not fruit picking but like a project thing. or short term thing. preferably something that happens with some regularity but not all the time. these things often pay pretty good too! that way you work like fuck for 2 or 3 weeks then you slump back to ease.

i've had a few.

are you with an agency???

Two jobs

Jess, I'm just coming off working two jobs. I don't need to tell you that it's not great, but it helps that yes, your current job is standing around reading magazines. My two jobs were a full-time job checking out film equipment and a part-time (one day a week) data entry job at an extremely relaxed non-profit. So I ended up working Monday through Saturday 8 to 5. It's a bit crap having only one day weekends, but it helped that my two jobs were vastly different.
