going to bars in the east village/lower east side on a friday or saturday night usually means that you'll get asked for i.d., although i've never heard of a chinese restaurant (buffet or otherwise) requiring proof of age. that's preposterous.

NYC has gotten progressively pig-headed about asking for IDs. When I came up in H.S. I could drink with impunity, with all the thrill of coming to the big city. By the time I got to college, it was 50-50, and the only way I could get into the West End (bastards) was because a friend gave me an old ID of hers. Now, I can't even go to the dive bar around the corner from my house without being asked for ID. Either I am looking younger every day or NYC is getting more and more repressive.

Last night's bouncer-system was horrible. Outdoor bouncer: "Have your IDs out! Have your $5 ready!" (I stayed for a few songs of Chromeo--they (he?) were (was?) pretty charming.)
