That which does not kill me only makes me stronger, especially during my gimmick reboots.

Look out, Nietzche has a concealed foreign object in his beard!

There are, as is known, insects that die in the moment of fertilization. So it is with all joy: life's highest, most splendid moment of enjoyment is accompanied by death, CUZ SØREN COLD SAYS SO.

Søren Cold Kierkegaard (Leee), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Didn't Barthes write on wrestling? He didn't come out of his grapple with a white van in the rue des Ecoles too well, though.

Will McKenzie, Friday, 23 April 2004 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember getting drunk/going without sleep for days or something once and going a bit funny, and deciding I was going to do a PhD thesis linking Schopenhauer and pro-wrestling. It was quite recently.

I am imaging Jacques Derrida snarling "I'm gonna deconstruct your ass!"

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 April 2004 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

"...with the symbolic power of my phallus!"

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 25 April 2004 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, wrestlers make very little use of their phalluses. (Phalli?) Though Rico seems to be trying to change that. He is not obviously any kind of philosopher, however.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 25 April 2004 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

the phallus isn't physical, it is the "idea" of masculine power. Therefore the action would not be physical at all, rather mental, symbolic and social, a battle over symbolic strength.

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 25 April 2004 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

i picture Derrida in the corner looking like a strained X-Man villian, veins popping out of his forehead as he deploys his ideology against his opponent...

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 25 April 2004 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Did he really have one?* Wouldn't he be trying to take apart his opponent's ideology instead, to show where the binary assumptions underlying it were unsafe, where the contradictions lay?

Ha, "I'll whip your binary assumptions out from under you!" could be his battle cry.

*actual answer: of course, but I don't think it was an important or central point of his value.

Don't tell me he's not trying to make som kind of philodophical statement there.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 25 April 2004 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

"philosophical", sorry.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 25 April 2004 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Though maybe "Philodophical" is somehow more appropriate.
