("Hello Jess." Do you get it? Man, I crack myself up sometimes)

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

EDR: his freelance checks still haven't arrived, and I don't blame him for his rage.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

"well mr. harvell, it seems your mail was being forwarded for the first two weeks, but for the last two it has not. i don't have an answer for why this is."

kephm, Friday, 23 April 2004 23:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Somehow I don't see this turning out as exciting as "girls gurls grrls"

C0L1N B3CK3TT (Colin Beckett), Friday, 23 April 2004 23:11 (twenty-two years ago)

what's awesome about the USPS (not least in DC, where the mail is...haphazard, when not laced with unpleasant things) is that the last time I moved I tried to do the forwarding thing online and they CHARGE YOU TO DO IT ONLINE WHILE DOING IT BY (FREE) MAIL IS FREE

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 23 April 2004 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I very rarely use the mail. (Almost never in fact).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 23 April 2004 23:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't truss 'em.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 23 April 2004 23:20 (twenty-two years ago)

their mere existence is a fine excuse, however

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 23 April 2004 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

E-mail does sure have its advantages there. I receive many things through the mail but rarely send anything out -- CDR burns, cards and gifts for friends and the like are the main exception. There's also bills, but I pay those ever more often strictly on-line.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 23 April 2004 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I also love the mail sorting in my building, it's unreal how many times mail goes in the wrong slot. My phone bill goes into my neighbor's slot about 95% of the time- sadly he always passes it along to me.

lyra (lyra), Saturday, 24 April 2004 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I knew somebody was gonna put a "Crying of Lot 49" reference.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 24 April 2004 02:51 (twenty-two years ago)

The United States Postal Service (USPS) will not renew its sponsorship of the Division I professional team headed by five-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong. The postal service's contract expires at the end of 2004, but USPS spokesman Gerry McKiernan said in an AP report that the agency has decided to go "in another direction", possibly with another sports venture.

"The Postal Service needs to consider sponsorships in light of its monopoly status, financial condition, investment returns and core mission," the internal auditors wrote.

"Pissing off Strongo is a large part of this mission," Hunter added.

Hunter (Hunter), Saturday, 24 April 2004 03:09 (twenty-two years ago)

the country's big; big enough to lose a letter.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 24 April 2004 03:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I love the USPS.

Oh yeah, they lose stuff here and there. And they can be total assholes to deal with.

But still, over the course of my lifetime of sending and receiving, the success rate is pretty astoundingly high. In the 99-point-something range, I bet.

I guess I'm partly defensive because I think they're an example of a public agency that does a good job cheaply (for 37 cents I can either buy a pack of gum or mail a letter from Maine to Montana), and that the privatizing profiteers running the country would love to shut down if they thought they could get away with it. If you think the postal service sucks now, wait until it's run by Halliburton.

spittle (spittle), Saturday, 24 April 2004 05:52 (twenty-two years ago)

(also, I grew up on a dirt road where we knew our mailman by name and my mom would leave plates of cookies in the mailbox for him)

spittle (spittle), Saturday, 24 April 2004 06:10 (twenty-two years ago)

(which, now that I think about it, might be why we always got our mail)

spittle (spittle), Saturday, 24 April 2004 06:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm relatively lucky -- I've only had one really bad experience with the postal service. I was sending a friend (who lived out of state) a birthday present, and she didn't get it till months later -- and it was burnt and shredded.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Saturday, 24 April 2004 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

my dad's a manager w/n the us postal service. he won't like to hear you diss them, strongo.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 24 April 2004 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

to wit: NO MORE MAIL FOR YOU, MUTHA!

mailmanbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 24 April 2004 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

that said ... the USPO here in hoboken once lost my rent check. which lead to the landlord calling me at work and asking (kindly), "where's yer rent?" no big deal -- the office is on my way to work, i just drop it off there once a month.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 24 April 2004 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
YOU ARE ALL TOO FUCKING RETARDED AND USELESS AND LAZY TO BE GOING ON RAMPAGES AND SHOOTING PEOPLE WE THE PEOPLE SHOULD ALL BE SHOOTING YOU INSTEAD FOR YOUR MASS INCOMPETENCE

What if they do the job for you?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 16:21 (twenty years ago)

Although oddly enough I'm missing a freelance check myself this week, so there's that.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 16:24 (twenty years ago)

Their branding looks too much like Bolton's kit.

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 16:25 (twenty years ago)

Holy CRAP. 6 dead? Damn. That is sad, sad news.

Big Loud Mountain Ape (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 16:27 (twenty years ago)

two years pass...

WHERE THE FUCK IS MY MAIL

bell_labs, Friday, 25 April 2008 17:32 (eighteen years ago)

Karl Rove hates the USPS because it creates lots of government jobs in urban areas and lets people post things for pennies instead of forking dough over to hardworking private businesses like UPS, FedEx, etc.

gabbneb, Friday, 25 April 2008 17:37 (eighteen years ago)

i haven't gotten anyt mail in over a week! i have magazines, bills, my dental insurance card, netflix, and a birthday card from my grandmother that should have been received in this time. i just called to complain about it and it took me about 18 tries to call the post office without it going to a fax machine/modem noise. and they said i needed to call back at 8 am tomorrow. wtf. wtf. i hate you, the post office.

bell_labs, Friday, 25 April 2008 17:37 (eighteen years ago)

I would love to do a reality show in which Karl Rove and Dick Cheney try out as postal workers

gabbneb, Friday, 25 April 2008 17:39 (eighteen years ago)

i would love to post on a thread where gabbneb doesn't come a long and shit it up

bell_labs, Friday, 25 April 2008 17:40 (eighteen years ago)

you sound just like karl rove

gabbneb, Friday, 25 April 2008 17:42 (eighteen years ago)

Once I only had $6.75 and I went to the post office to buy stamps. "Please give me the maximum amount of stamps I can purchase with $6.75," I said. He tore a few stamps off a packet of Virgin Mary stamps and the total came to $6.66. "Ha, the Virgin Mary and $6.66, didn't expect to see those together," I said. OH MAN he got super pissed.
