See how Ocean software brilliantly captured the excitement and enery of Die Hard in their 1990 licensed 2D arcade title.

A big-name endorsement could make or break a game. I get the feeling it "broke" it here:

This actually looks quite a bit like him, to be honest. Well done the graphics designer:

Video games became shit when they went 3D. Proof:

It's actually the only video game to ever bring me to tears, the end-scene is quite heart-warming.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 23 April 2004 21:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Home computer games based on quiz shows always sucked. Case in point:

It's sad, but nothing on ILX has excited me more than seeing the title of this thread. And the contents does not disappoint.

Does anyone still have a working C64 or Spectrum that they actually PLAY?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 23 April 2004 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

GOLDEN AXE!!!!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 23 April 2004 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I have got a working C64, but I never use it, mainly because the WinVICE C64 emulator can load the games in two seconds rather than 90, and I can get the roms for them offline easily.

Paperboy
Batman
Barbarian
Dizzy the Egg

I'm here, though I'm not entirely sure why I've been summoned. I really want to play the Price Is Right game, just to show you the exact coordinates of my flavor of geekery.

I had an Atari 800XL, so.

its been 15 years since i last playd that game. but i cant get those sounds outof my haed.

:|, Saturday, 24 April 2004 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Impossible mission rules so hard its incredible. It didn't occur to me at the time that a key made up of different sounds from all over a building = best game concept evah. I can't find the fucking ROM anywhere, annoyingly. If someone knows the URL for it, please tell me!

Same goes for GI JOE. I can find ROMS for it, but none of them work with my emulators (grrrr)

A screengrab from It's Only Rock and Roll. I played an emulated version of this recently. The idea was that you were a fledgling rock band with X dollars to spend on gigging, recording, manager-hiring and whatnot. Like Oregon Trail, with roadies.

OMG a Neighbours game!!! *brain splosion*

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 6 February 2005 00:06 (twenty-one years ago)

The Neighbours game, weirdly enough, revolved around skateboarding.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 6 February 2005 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I think my favourite game of that era is 'new zealand story'. I like a cabinet of that actually.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 6 February 2005 00:26 (twenty-one years ago)

HAHA!!! What is that!

So New Zealand has:

-Axe wielding robot cats
-balloon riding turtles
-Birds that shoot arrows
-And they are all at war

Whoda thunk it!

-rainbow bum- (-rainbow bum-), Sunday, 6 February 2005 01:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I seem to remember that the intro sequence for The New Zealand Story features a group of kiwis (one smoking a fag) being kidnapped by a large walrus.

(I have the arcade ROM for MAME, so it's not that long since I last played it)

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 6 February 2005 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

of course everyone knows the amiga version was the best *flounces off*

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 6 February 2005 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm pretty sure New Zealand Story was the first video game I ever completed.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 6 February 2005 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember a review for that in Amiga Format or one of those... "Stop Wally Walrus from eating his friends!". I should play that.

chrisco (chrisco), Sunday, 6 February 2005 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

new zealand story and rainbow islands on the amiga are my favourite computer games.

in sharky water, Sunday, 6 February 2005 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)
