what scars do you bear?

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 24 April 2004 05:24 (twenty-two years ago)

i have minor ones all over my legs from childhood, plus a couple of big ones on both of my inner thighs. i also have a nasty one on my upper left thigh where i stuck a pencil in, broke off the lead and my dad tries to dig it out with a spoon.
i have small scars on my knuckles from later stupidity.

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 24 April 2004 05:27 (twenty-two years ago)

there's a blue dot on the palm of my hand from when i stabbed myself with a bic pen in third grade. possibly closer to a tattoo than a scar, but i don't have any scars with interesting stories behind them.

valley of the lawlz (Adrian Langston), Saturday, 24 April 2004 05:28 (twenty-two years ago)

o, i also have a beauty all up the upper inside of my left arm from where i fell off the roof last year.

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 24 April 2004 05:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Dare I ask abt the thigh scars gaz?

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 24 April 2004 05:30 (twenty-two years ago)

one from climbing a barbed wire fence at 8. the other from a particularly nasty bit of wood when i was jumping the fence of a pig sty.

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 24 April 2004 05:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a scar on my upper lip, to the right of my nose. My cat Norman bit me when I was ten. Needed stitches and everything. My parents got rid of the cat because of that, which has always been a source of guilt for me.

Prude (Prude), Saturday, 24 April 2004 06:12 (twenty-two years ago)

owwww gaz.

I only have minor finger scars from cuts opening cans, etc. I think I have a weird seam behind one ear from grommet ear ops as a kid but I might be wrong, as I have no idea how they performed that surgery (I was only a wee nipper).

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 24 April 2004 06:13 (twenty-two years ago)

(is it "grommet" or "graumet"? Not sure. THose middle ear drains anyway)

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 24 April 2004 06:14 (twenty-two years ago)

i have two scars on my neck and one on my thigh, all from biopsies

todd swiss (eliti), Saturday, 24 April 2004 06:36 (twenty-two years ago)

One small scar on face from having a dart thrown in it, scars on knuckles and largish scar from the bottom of my tummy to top of my bits.

don (don), Saturday, 24 April 2004 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

One near my right knuckle I got from accidentally putting my hand through a window (long, tedious story). It just looks like I've been burnt by the world's tiniest flame.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 24 April 2004 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

One on my right forearm from a miserable little wart thing from when I was 12, two lower groin scars from the wonderful double hernia operation when I was eight (whee)...I think that's it, though you could sorta count this discolored bruise right below my left knee which I also got around when I was eight; can't remember what accident caused it, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 24 April 2004 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

One under my chin from when I thought it might be a good idea to go down a big hill on my bike with no hands, but hit a stone halfway down and went arse over tit landing on my face.

Lots of burn marks on my hands and arms.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 24 April 2004 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Small scar on my forehead from childhood, which is only noticeable when I get hot (it kind of throbs apparently). Irritating one on my left thumb from when I sliced it open with a stanley knife a few years ago while cutting plasterboard. I went right through the thumbnail, ow. It's irritating as a reminder of my own stupidity.

udu wudu (udu wudu), Saturday, 24 April 2004 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

i have a small scar on my inner left knee from where a tree branch ripped off a piece of skin when i was 10 or so. i also have a scar on my arm from when it got broken at scout camp aged 12. (the arm basically snapped in half, so my fingers touched my elbow. the bone popped through, so now i have a nice long scar shaped like a centipede and a divot in my arm.)

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 24 April 2004 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

matched scars on my shins from running into a metal park bench in the dark, various cat scratches and knife slips on my hands, and one a couple of inches long in my armpit from when I was 8 and tripped over a rock, held out my hands to catch myself, but landed on a dead bush and drove the stem into my armpit. I'm starting to get acne scars too. :( There are a few accidents I had when little that I'm really surprised I'm not scarred from, mostly bike riding or clumsiness. I got a ton of gravel imbedded in my face when a mean girl didn't do her half of the trick on the twirling bars and I fell on my face, but no scars.

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 24 April 2004 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Teeny, you need to swathe yourself in a big ball of gauze or you will fall to bits!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 24 April 2004 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I have one just above my forehead, in the middle, where my big cousin bounced a pitchfork off concrete into my head.

I have another at the top-left of my head where I had nine stitches after jumping for a header and connecting with the player not the ball.

Those are my best.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 24 April 2004 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a scar on my left foot, can't remember where from.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 24 April 2004 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

i have 4 scars on my stomach from having my gallbladder removed.

mandee, Saturday, 24 April 2004 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I've had a nice one on my upper lip from the first time I rode a bicycle, and landed face down on the pavement. There's one on my chest from a pointy stick and an angry neighbor kid who tried to stab me when I was 8. A nice long one of my left wrist from a cat who really didn't want to go to the vet. A few good burn scars here and there, and my fingers are in pretty awful shape from x-acto knives.

Silas Beauford (Silas Beauford), Saturday, 24 April 2004 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I've got two, more like a double scar, on my right knee. I got it when I was 8(?). I was helping my grandma in the garden and there was one cement step in front of the back door. I was heading inside to get something and the watering hose was on. My grandma was using it. That thing leaks, so the cement step was all wet. I tried to run onto the step, tripped, and my knee hit this sharp rock. My knee was bleeding so much. I sat up. I tried to call my grandma. It took her a while. I was crying. She began yelling. We got inside. She cleaned my wound, and I got a peice of mint chocolate!

Aja (aja), Saturday, 24 April 2004 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll start by saying I have a scar on the top of my left foot from an axe. I have a burn on my left arm 2nd & 3rd degree from a tipped melita coffee maker. I have had three large opeations large scars. Hmmm when I think about them, I have seen many people with a lot worse.

Gale, Saturday, 24 April 2004 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I have this tiny scar on my forehead from being headbutted by a "bigger boy" back in high school. i barely remember it's there most of the time.

Slump Man (Slump Man), Saturday, 24 April 2004 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

i have a small scar on my forehead from stitches (childhood accident at 12 years old I think)

i have a scar running the lenght of my right leg, on the side, from below the knee just about to the hip (bone tumor surgery #1)

and a tiny needly biopsy scar just above the knee.

i will soon have more.

Orbit (Orbit), Saturday, 24 April 2004 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I just accidentally cut my finger with scissors, and made a big fuss and got my flatmate to bandage it up while I looked away saying "I'm going to faint, I'm going to faint". I'll probably take the dressing off in an hour and it'll be a tiny cut, but I feel properly wounded.
I don't have any real scars that I can think of, luckily.

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 24 April 2004 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

once i was arguing with the then boo and while i was shoutily underlining a killer point i gesticulated too wildly and jabbed my face with my thumbnail! blood and everything. so a lil scar there, of hubris too i suppose. also a giant diagonal one on my back, for the ladies.

prima fassy (mwah), Saturday, 24 April 2004 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

everyone has the scar they deserve it seems

prima fassy (mwah), Saturday, 24 April 2004 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Vertical scar on top lip from collision with the edge of a car door when I was a small child (so I'm told; I don't remember it).

Scars under my chin where surgeons reconctructed my lower jaw (15 pieces!) after a spectacular crash in the '87 Manx Grand Prix. Plus scar on little finger of left hand from compound dislocation in same accident.

Reminder on right elbow of overturning a sled on a dry toboggan run in the Pyrennees in summer '93. My daughter, who was riding with me, bears a matching scar on her right knee.

chris j (chris j), Saturday, 24 April 2004 21:41 (twenty-two years ago)

every scar has the owner it deserves.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 24 April 2004 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Which reminds me, I have a scar on my leg from when I fell through the floor of the Usher Hall pogoing to Belle and Sebastian...

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 24 April 2004 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

my left pinky has two, one lengthwise on the tip (don't remember where that one came from), the other one is small but it went all the way down (fucking around in nasty creek as a kid, barbed wire or concrete or something). right ring finger has a diagonal one across the knuckle (broke a glass in the bathroom at 2 am). my favorite one is gone now; i was burned on the wrist with a cigarette on the paris metro when i was 6.

but: surgery at age 10 = 12" cut running between my ribs on my right side, from a couple inches beneath my nipple around underneath my shoulderblade. + some tube insertion holes here and there, and another one in the side of my neck.

g--ff (gcannon), Saturday, 24 April 2004 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a scar for many years on my knee from a rollerblade fall, but just now I went to look at it and it's gone! I didn't know scars could do that.

I also have a little one on my shoulder from a cat scratch.

Dan I., Saturday, 24 April 2004 22:41 (twenty-two years ago)

so I'm the only reformed self-multilator around these parts then? K, cool, but none of you get to come to my goth parties any more

Usin' a Different Name (J0hn Darn1elle), Saturday, 24 April 2004 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

ahem...

Lots of burn marks on my hands and arms

Not me, at all, oh no (ailsa), Saturday, 24 April 2004 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

oh heh missed that bit

had more to say but the whole subject embarasses me

Usin' a Different Name (J0hn Darn1elle), Saturday, 24 April 2004 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Me too. I choose to be embarrassed by this instead...

I have a scar on my leg from when I fell through the floor of the Usher Hall pogoing to Belle and Sebastian

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

J0hn, I've got an arm full of quite noticeable scars from self-mutilation mostly 9, 10 years ago, they're a big problem for me. Perhaps getting me down more these days as I'm in more desperate need of steady work/career.
(I think I would've ended up working for kids but for the scars plus I'm hoping to go to Korea to teach English but I'm worried they could get me fired)...oh sorry for making this sound like um yeah a teen goth forum, it's hard to find any good context where I can talk about it.

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Sunday, 25 April 2004 03:14 (twenty-two years ago)

LORETTA'S!!!.....

LC, Sunday, 25 April 2004 03:33 (twenty-two years ago)

small one on my chin from running around table, falling, and smacking chin into table, age 4 or 5
large appendix scar on stomach. if it had another horizontal line, you could play tic-tac-toe on it

oops (Oops), Sunday, 25 April 2004 04:51 (twenty-two years ago)

i have a small round mark on the top of my right hand, where my friend burned me (accidentally) with a cigarette a few years ago.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 25 April 2004 05:07 (twenty-two years ago)

oh shit i have one on my chin too! kid knocked me down on the ice, 3rd grade.

g--ff (gcannon), Sunday, 25 April 2004 06:42 (twenty-two years ago)

my brother has one on his chin, too, it's kinda wierd.

ok now it looks like i'm making these up...

g--ff (gcannon), Sunday, 25 April 2004 06:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i have a small one nestled in my pubic hair.

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 25 April 2004 06:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I've got a scar of a couple of inches on my forehead, reaching down to the corner of my left eye. It comes from a car crash I was in when I was 10; a few lumps of flying glass hit me, and I was pretty lucky that my eyeball wasn't damaged.

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 25 April 2004 08:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Scar on finger of left hand after getting into a, ummmmm, disagreement with a bouncer in a pub in Glasgow.

Horrible scar on right knee from drunken fall after leaving a pub in Glasgow (a pattern begins to emerge). (Was so drunk that I tried to stop the bleeding with a five pound note!)

Various scars in chestal region and ribcage from collapsed lung surgery.

Is it really true that CHICKS DIG SCARS?

Dadaismus (Dada), Sunday, 25 April 2004 09:12 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...

i hate scars

Surmounter, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 14:47 (eighteen years ago)

i do. esp. prominent ones. those rBAD.

Surmounter, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 14:53 (eighteen years ago)

Norman had it bad. My cat Sooty scratched my hand to smithereens between the ages of 4-14 (when she started liking me for some reason). I'm surprised some people don't think I'm into self-harm by the state of my hands.

I also have a scar on one of my knuckles from when I sliced through my finger trying to clean the kitchen while drunk. Can't blame that one on the cat.

JTS, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

ooh that's tough. drunk slicing is just a bad idea...

Surmounter, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 15:10 (eighteen years ago)

I think that Ramzi would look real tough if he had a big ol' pirate slash scar across his face and tons of acne pocks. Nobody would mess with ya then, eh?

libcrypt, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 15:12 (eighteen years ago)

my worst nightmare!! geez you just gave me the shivers

Surmounter, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 15:16 (eighteen years ago)

I have a big one on my right elbow from coming off my skateboard when I was 14. I was a pretty rubbish skater, tbh.

Bodrick III, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 15:48 (eighteen years ago)

i have a scar on my elbow from ROLLERBLADING. so shameful.

bell_labs, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 15:50 (eighteen years ago)

i am a big ol' scar-fest.

smashed face-first through the rear windscreen of a car when i was 15 and that caused quite a mess (as well as nearly killing me. woops). these are far less visible now and make a could pain and suffering story with girls.

two bullet-hole sized ones on my right elbow from - again while on my bike but far more recently - hopping off the curb onto a wet road. it all went very wrong at that point.

Upt0eleven, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 16:15 (eighteen years ago)

wow! hot ; ) glad you're still here

Surmounter, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

Only two I think - one from repaired cleft lip, one on inner left arm from bone protruding when I broke it.

Archel, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

i have a huge scar on my right forearm from when i worked at fedex unloading trucks
i have no idea how it happened, it was one of those, 'how the hell am i bleeding?' things

i have a scar on my left shin from when i flipped over a decorative wooden wishing well playing baseball in my friend's yard when i was about 8
got a big chunk of wood stuck in my leg
from then on i thought 'keep your eye on the ball' was total bullshit

the sir weeze, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 16:31 (eighteen years ago)

xx-post. aww, fanks! i am too.

don't necessarily think girls have ever found them especially alluring to look at but they do tend to like the texture.

love love love a girl stroking a scar. always makes me feel far more manly than i am.

Upt0eleven, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 16:32 (eighteen years ago)

Know a fella who's got a long fencing-style scar on his face from falling out of his pram as a baby. Tells people he got it in a knife fight.

Bodrick III, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 16:32 (eighteen years ago)

one of those, 'how the hell am i bleeding?' things

I have loads of those all over my hands from working inside computers. There's a scar on the back of my hand from a falling plastic box full of floppies. There's a one inch surgical scar on my lower back from having a mole removed - it actually looks like a stab wound! There's a big ten inch scar on my left leg from an operation I had when I was a kid. Also, when I was four I fell out of a window and got a scar underneath my bottom lip, just like Harrison Ford. And a couple of weeks ago a rather clumsy soldering iron burn on the back of my left hand.

snoball, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 16:38 (eighteen years ago)

eight months pass...

I've got a big scar on my left thumb that I only like to explain if I'm trying to impress someone.

Tell me of your scars!

en i see kay, Saturday, 29 November 2008 10:22 (seventeen years ago)

The soldering iron burn was on my right hand, not my left. Duh me... Luckily it was on the knuckle so it's practically invisible now.
And tiny pinhole burn marks from solder spitting.
Also, from a few years ago but I forgot to mention, a scar on the outside of my left wrist near the knuckle where I was taking a folder out of a filing cabinet and someone had left the key in the lock.
And from when I was six or seven, a scar on my left ring finger, first joint below the fingernail. I don't have any idea what happened, but it looks like it needed a couple of stitches.
Scars on my legs as a child from running through some bushes while wearing shorts - didn't realise they were thorn bushes.
And in the last few months, a scar on the second knuckle of my left middle finger, accidentally took off a bit of skin while using a wood rasp.

snoball, Saturday, 29 November 2008 11:01 (seventeen years ago)

Oh yeah, I forgot:
Scar on left knee, don't remember how it happened.
Small sickle shaped scar on right cheek, probably from some misguided Zorro bullshit in childhood.
Horizontal scars mid-back, probably from some bicycle accident.

snoball, Saturday, 29 November 2008 11:13 (seventeen years ago)

one month passes...

Got frustrated about something, karate chopped a doorframe. There'll probably be a small quarter inch scar next to the first knuckle on the little finger of my left hand.

snoball, Friday, 9 January 2009 23:18 (seventeen years ago)

So your right hand was otherwise occupied? I'm beginning to see what happened...

Goodnight, Mr. Johnson. (country matters), Friday, 9 January 2009 23:20 (seventeen years ago)

I'm left handed

snoball, Friday, 9 January 2009 23:25 (seventeen years ago)

How could you place your dominant hand in jeopardy! Aren't you a musician?

Goodnight, Mr. Johnson. (country matters), Friday, 9 January 2009 23:29 (seventeen years ago)

Some people.

Goodnight, Mr. Johnson. (country matters), Friday, 9 January 2009 23:29 (seventeen years ago)

Admittedly it was a stupid thing to do. But most non-operation scars are collected in a moment of stupidity anyway.

snoball, Friday, 9 January 2009 23:39 (seventeen years ago)

^^^this dude ain't 4 REAL

Goodnight, Mr. Johnson. (country matters), Friday, 9 January 2009 23:41 (seventeen years ago)

one year passes...

I took this picture of this cute kitten friend I made out the front of my place the other day on my phone and realised it also kind of demonstrates the scar on/permanent weirdness of my big toenail. I hit it with an axe when I was about 12 cutting wood w/no shoes on.

wilter, Saturday, 16 January 2010 10:24 (sixteen years ago)

You are lucky you still have your big toe. I lost mine to a lawn mower accident when I was 4. I I was running on my grandmother's back porch, whiloe my aunt was cutting the grass on a riding lawnmower. I'm not clear on what happened but I think I wanted to surprised my aunt and jumped off the back porch. My left foot slide underneath the mower, severing my foot in 3 places and my toe. After months in the hospital, my foot was reattached, but they never found my toe. Now I have a scar that winds around the side of my footdown the back of my ankle and under my foot.

Jacob Sanders, Saturday, 16 January 2010 21:46 (sixteen years ago)

I have two big ones on my back from kidney surgery as a kid.

i am under no illusions that my opinions are even that interesting to me (dan m), Saturday, 16 January 2010 22:11 (sixteen years ago)

my friend had some free passes to the 2003 san diego comic con, and we decided to check it out on a saturday night when there was supposed to be this lol masquerade ball going on. instead of wearing a costume, i drank a fifth of beam. then i pushed my way through all the assorted larpers, trekkies, furries etc. into the middle of the dancefloor, and tried some breakdancing moves. i did pretty good for never having breakdanced before, attempting one of those 360-degree backspins just like i'd seen done by professionals in those music videos where they breakdance. i got about three-quarters through the spin before trying to stand back up, but faceplanted instead. got up again and stumbled into the bathroom to find blood pouring out of a brand new gash just outside my left eye socket. i would later realize that i snapped my left collarbone in half too, but that didn't leave a scar.

iiiijjjj, Saturday, 16 January 2010 22:25 (sixteen years ago)

haha that's awful.

wilter, Sunday, 17 January 2010 01:10 (sixteen years ago)

Jacob jeeez, that sounds horrible. iiiijjjj: lolllll

I have a couple of scars on my knee from a footballing (soccering) incident, playing on a gravel field, me as the goalkeeper, long ball leaves me one on one with a tall and pretty fat guy. I succeeded in stopping him from scoring, but not from falling on my leg and grinding it into the field. Lorra lorra blood, kind of disappointing that the scars aren't more impressive. My opponent there later went on to murder someone by dropping a slab of concrete on their head. I guess I got off lucky.

I also have a nice shiny scar on the knuckle of my right ring finger, which I got after a little careless cheese-grating. My expression when I saw the large lump of flesh I'd taken out of myself was "JESUS FUCK", which as thought-free exclamations of shock go I think is pretty good.

FC Tom Tomsk Club (Merdeyeux), Sunday, 17 January 2010 01:28 (sixteen years ago)

I said the same thing when a carelessly wielded Surform (like a cheese grater but for shaping wood) took a chunk out of the second knuckle of my left middle ring finger.

One of my best mates has a scar like this - its a total mafiosa scar on his cheek under one eye - but he got it falling out of his cot as a babby holding a glass baby's bottle which smashed into his face and cut it open.

millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Sunday, 17 January 2010 11:11 (sixteen years ago)

Small sickle shaped scar on right cheek, probably from some misguided Zorro bullshit in childhood.

I was thinking about this last night and I remember a bit more about it now. The old b/w Zorro serial was shown on TV, and for a couple of weeks everybody at school bought in telescopic radio aerials to have sword fights. We were six years old and this was 1980 so elf'n'safety concerns were years away. It's a stretch, but maybe I could claim it as a genuine fencing injury?

an executive by day and a wild man by night (snoball), Sunday, 17 January 2010 11:18 (sixteen years ago)

I have four scars on the top of my wrist from where I keep burning myself on the racks in the oven when taking things out. It sorta looks like I self harm.

I also have a small dot in the middle of my palm from where I stabbed myself with a pencil in grade school and a piece of the "lead" got wedged in there.

Small scar/no feeling in the tip of my pinky from where I walked into a while while holding a glass. I was about 11 so completely sober. Sometimes I'm not v graceful.

t(o_o)t (ENBB), Sunday, 17 January 2010 11:23 (sixteen years ago)

One chicken pox scar on one of my cheeks though can never remember which.

t(o_o)t (ENBB), Sunday, 17 January 2010 11:25 (sixteen years ago)

I have two major scars on my eyes. lol People always freak out when they see it. Funnily enough piece of it hangs off a thread. I sometimes wonder what would happen if it breaks off and *dangles* there. lolol

Nathalie (stevienixed), Sunday, 17 January 2010 12:57 (sixteen years ago)

(Honestly, I don't try to think about it, cause, if I do, I do feel sad about it. But in a way this *connects* me to my husband who has a major visual handicap.)
