Would a sweater or one of those North Face jackets help?

Restart.

Tried that and it still pauses every 30 odd seconds when I'm typing.

Yack, this may sound weird, but what kind of mouse do you have? I was having a lot of problems with my PC freezing after my mouse would kind of get stuck. I switched to an optical mouse and things have been much better.

This was in the past week or so.

I've had the same mouse for a few months and no problems until this morning.

Oh yeh, the mouse thing I can see. I think (tries to go back to when he knew about stuff like this) it's sharing the DMA channel with something else, and it all goes Judge Jules from there. Have you started using ANYTHING recently that might get in the way? Maybe a sound card?

Nothing at all.

So you havn't installed anything new and havn't put anything new in, but it still keeps dying?

Hmm. This happened to me a while back. It seemed that for no reason I could fathom, one of the RAM chips died in some parts. That may be something to look at, although it'll require some playing around.

Get a program like Sisoft Sandra so you can check out the state of your hardware. It can check yr memory for you and also your temps.
Last summer my computer kept freezing after being on for only a few minutes. I found out that I had allowed too much dust to accumulate inside the case and dustbunnies had sort of melted to and fried my motherboard, causing it to overheat quickly.

Also, we here are mostly not computer problem sorts of people. You would get much better help if you asked around at computing.net
