this is the thread where you reccomend me a jacket

i need a new jacket for the spring and stuff. ideally my new jacket will be waist-length or around there, light, have some pockets, and look totally awesome. i don't think i can deal with corduroy unless it really catches my eye, and i dunno about denim either though i am open.

also it cannot be too expensive.

also i am very bad to my clothing so durability is a plus.

thank you.

i ALWAYS misspell recommend!! WHY!

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 24 April 2004 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

any advice on this persistent and annoying error would also be appreciated.

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 24 April 2004 23:27 (twenty-two years ago)

But first, describe yourself. M/F, height, wt., hair color. Jacket like windbreaker or blazer?

Skottie, Saturday, 24 April 2004 23:28 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm a 74-year-old frenchwoman

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 24 April 2004 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Good, then this will be a piece of gateau.

Skottie, Saturday, 24 April 2004 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

This is what Coco recommends:

One of the most famous 74-year-old French women and her jacket.

Skottie, Saturday, 24 April 2004 23:37 (twenty-two years ago)

whoa my picture turned out pretty fucked up.

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 24 April 2004 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

No, not really. Most Frenchwomen are extremely pixelated at this point in time.

Very fashionable.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

too long

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, this french jacket for the ladies.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:11 (twenty-two years ago)

what size are you?

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:12 (twenty-two years ago)

We also have this lovely one, but your head gets cut off.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:13 (twenty-two years ago)

i dunno! large? i'm actually a six-foot-tall jewish dude, not an elderly frenchwoman btw

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Is that a Scarsdale car coat, Teeny?

Skottie, Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:14 (twenty-two years ago)

it's zegna I think.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:15 (twenty-two years ago)

why do you want a coat anyway slutskee? it's nearly summer!

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:16 (twenty-two years ago)

cuz it's montreal and the only coats i have are too warm for me. i need a light typa deal since i lost my jean jacket last year!

another piece of information about me is that my arms a bit long.

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:17 (twenty-two years ago)

http://bluefly.speedera.net/zs.bluefly.com/mgen/Bluefly/prodImage.ms?productCode=1004037&width=157&height=188

$70 marked down from $250, still pricey for a windbreaker.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:18 (twenty-two years ago)

oh so you meant lightweight, not light colored??

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:18 (twenty-two years ago)

give me something to work with here!

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:18 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i presume that's $70US right? also white clothing is no good for me cuz i'll invariably get it all scuffed up and stuff! (xp)

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:19 (twenty-two years ago)

so yes i do mean lightweight! uhh and i'm really trying to brainstorm this because i have very few ideas, sorry if that's not very helpful!

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:19 (twenty-two years ago)

this is pretty cute.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:21 (twenty-two years ago)

do you seriously not know what size you are? I'm guessing since you're tall, you'd need an xl.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

L usually works pretty well for me!

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:23 (twenty-two years ago)

but now that i think of it, i usually go xl for jackets. that one is pretty nice! i can't tell if it has any pockets or not though, i'm off to zoom in on it!

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:24 (twenty-two years ago)

actually on close inspection that jacket is quite nice! do they only sell it over the internet? because ordering clothes that way kind of worries me.

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:25 (twenty-two years ago)

everything really has that zip-up neck nowadays, doesn't it? i actually have a nice coat with a built-in dickie neck like that and i like it, though it makes wearing headphones around the neck kind of a chore.

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:26 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah this is an internet-only retailer, they make returns super-easy though, you just slap on the sticker they give you and send it back. It's free if you accept a store credit or they deduct the shipping (like $8) if you want your money back. I've used them many times and been very happy.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:29 (twenty-two years ago)

huh. my one real concern is that i'm pretty picky and i really feel like i need to try the item on before i make a decision. but i wonder.

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm not making this very easy, am i?

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sure there's plenty of stylish stuff in montreal.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

that's a french connection uk jacket, they have two stores in montreal.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 25 April 2004 00:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm actually a six-foot-tall jewish dude, not an elderly frenchwoman btw

Hmmmm, are you sure you're not a 74 year old Frenchwoman trapped inside the body of a six-foot-tall Jewish dude? Anyway, who says a 74 year old Frenchwoman couldn't be six feet tall? Except that there aren't any.

But now we have more to go on. I'm getting a mental picture of gabe kaplan crossed with brigitte bardot. Am I wrong?

Skottie, Sunday, 25 April 2004 02:09 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.lindaclifford.com/Barbour/BarbourCouple.jpg
fabu and a bargain at only $700.

Skottie, Sunday, 25 April 2004 02:12 (twenty-two years ago)

This is nice too, not a windbreaker, of course, but...

Skottie, Sunday, 25 April 2004 02:14 (twenty-two years ago)

that's a french connection uk jacket, they have two stores in montreal.

cool! i'm gonna check that out!

meanwhile, what do you think of the jackets on this page?:

http://www.penguinclothing.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=P&Category_Code=PENGJACK

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 25 April 2004 04:18 (twenty-two years ago)

you can't go wrong with something like the golf jacket or the wes parker rain jacket thingy. very classic. they remind of the kind that mods/skinheads wear (harringtons?), but that might not sound like an endorsement.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 25 April 2004 04:27 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah both of those caught my eye! i really have a weakness for that penguin stuff, too bad it is so pricey. but if i see one of those bad boys when i'm shopping i may not be able to restrain myself.

(kinda like those wind jackets too!)

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 25 April 2004 04:29 (twenty-two years ago)

the problem with short jackets and me is that i never ever tuck my shirt in so if the shirt's longer than the jacket it can look weird.

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 25 April 2004 04:34 (twenty-two years ago)

i walked all over the place yesterday looking for a jacket and nothing pleased me! then i went home and fell asleep and woke up and thought it was the next morning. but today i bought a nice brown suit for $20 and a shirt and a brown striped pierre cardin tie! and a weird suitcase! and a weird hat!

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 02:51 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, so what's so weird about them?

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

another piece of information about me is that my arms a bit long

you only have one arm s locki?

mullygrubber (gaz), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, please now justify your statements to our satisfaction.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

i am getting very strange images of you in my head. please make it stop.

mullygrubber (gaz), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 22:47 (twenty-two years ago)

i have two arms but they're on the same side of my body

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

the suitcase is weird because it has a weird pattern on it, i am going to give it to a friend. the hat is just weird, it's like this polyester cap that only looks good at a very specific angle, and even them i'm still skeptical (i got it for free tho).

maybe i'm just not used to wearing hats (i have a very big head and few fit me)

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

this is now the thread where you recommend me a pair of sneakers!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 30 April 2004 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm a size 11 (US) and jewish if you need any of that kind of information

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 30 April 2004 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

the thing with the penguin jackets (I've tried them on) is they are horrible across the shoulders. :( it's a shame because I like the designs / colours.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 1 May 2004 07:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Is sneakers a mainly Canadian term? vs. runners, trainers etc...

also - TWO feet, right?

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 1 May 2004 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

uhh, i'm not sure

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 1 May 2004 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

"sneakers" is american/canadian. i think.

lauren (laurenp), Saturday, 1 May 2004 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

do you say it too?

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 1 May 2004 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)
