have you been romantically involved with someone with the same name as your sibling(s) or parents? or does the possibility concern you?

I've fancied someone with the same name as me before, that was fine and not very confusing but I've just started to think - what if I fall for someone called Hannah!(my sisters name), I think I'd find it very odd. And worse my parents names.
But I guess I have more pressing concerns.

I barely remember their names anyway

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 25 April 2004 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Tho actually if I found myself madly into someone called 'Raewyn' I'd be a little freaked out as aside from my Mum they really don't much exist

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 25 April 2004 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

my retardedly sexy hairdresser has the same name as my sister and it bothers me a little bit, yeah.

mark p (Mark P), Sunday, 25 April 2004 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

and i'm not even involved with her!!

mark p (Mark P), Sunday, 25 April 2004 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

my girlfriend's name is the same as my mom, but thankfully they look nothing like each other at all. Otherwise I s'pose I'd be in trouble.

I dated someone with my Dad's name once. It was more odd because that was a very common name for my dad's generation but not for mine.

I would never go out with someone with as ugly a name as lumsden. ugh.

and i don't think i could ever be friends with someone called robbie, let alone go outwith someone (are there any femmes called robbie???)

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Sunday, 25 April 2004 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

The ex front desk sergeant on "The Bill" was called Robbie. But she was fictional so I guess that doesn't count.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 25 April 2004 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

no and no.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Sunday, 25 April 2004 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

no.
i don't think it will ever come up. either.

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 25 April 2004 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

This is why I haven't slept with Phil, you see.

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 25 April 2004 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I have had things with a few women as the same name as one of one of my sister's, and I've fancied one with the same name as the other. It's not a terrifically big deal. The thought obviously occurred to me, but I really don't think there was anything dodge going on.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 25 April 2004 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

My boyfriend has the same name as my brother, my dad, and my grand- and great-grandfathers. He goes by his middle name (because his dad has the same first name and there was confusion) but I don't think it would bother me at all if he didn't. It's just a name.

kirsten (kirsten), Monday, 26 April 2004 00:53 (twenty-two years ago)

If I'd shagged a Boy Named Sue, that would be really funny! :D

Seriously tho, I think Ive been with a guy who shared m'dads (rather common) name.

On the other hand, Ive dated/been with/known so many Andrews I have seriously lost count. Its over a dozen. WTF is that all about?

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 26 April 2004 00:59 (twenty-two years ago)

My father's name is quite common in Mexico but not so much here in the States, so frankly I'd get kinda weirded out if I met someone I fancied with that same name, wonder if my tastes in guys were changing drastically or something.

I do have a cousin who shares my father's first name, but that's not an act of coincidence as he was named after my dad, so there.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 26 April 2004 02:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I've never dated an Alan (which is my father's name) and I don't live in Scotland so I never meet anyone named Hamish, let alone date them.

My ex-roommate in NYC (who some FAPpers have met) - her mother and father had exactly the same names as my mother and father, which was a bit weird. But that's it as far as naming coincidences.

Super-Kate (kate), Monday, 26 April 2004 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i would be shocked if i met a guy named Cullen who wasn't my brother. and haven't ever been romantically involved with a Doug, even though i did have a bit of a flirt with one at a work conference...it didn't really seem weird.

it was more weird that when he answered his phone by saying his last name in a really 'smooth' way. ick.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 26 April 2004 09:57 (twenty-two years ago)

there was a boy at my school called Adam Cullen....

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Monday, 26 April 2004 10:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I know alot of people with the second name Cullen, I'm sure.

I have never even met anyone with my mum's name, Joan, I don't think. I know one or two people called Niamh, that's my sisters name.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 26 April 2004 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, it's usually a last name. my mom took a family name and used it as his first name. so that's why i'd be surprised if i met another person with it as a first name...

colette (a2lette), Monday, 26 April 2004 10:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm very unlikely to meet a girl with (any) of my names. 'Barima' translated means 'man'.

Barima (Barima), Monday, 26 April 2004 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I suppose I'm unlikely to be romantically involved with a woman called Lyn, which is my sister's name, but Lynn or Lynne, the more common spellings are possibilities I suppose, although I can't recall meeting anyone with those names since school. My mother's name is Pamela. I've met a couple of nice Pamelas but wasn't romantically involved with either of them.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 26 April 2004 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

My Dad married someone with the same name as his Dad (Jo/Joe). I only just noticed this.

Cathy (Cathy), Monday, 26 April 2004 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a relative called Phil(ip) who married a Phyll(is).

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 26 April 2004 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

No but I don't think I'd have a problem. If anything, I'd feel bad if I felt weird about something so arbitrary and superficial.

Michael White (Hereward), Monday, 26 April 2004 20:52 (twenty-two years ago)

three weeks pass...
a girl whose first name is Hester recently started here and this has generated a fair no. of "you *must* marry her" comments!

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 07:16 (twenty-two years ago)

our friend was going out with a girl called Lynne, his Dad's name? Lyn - now that was a bit odd
