cleaning clogged drains is FRIGGING DISGUSTING ... OMGWTF how could i have shed SO MUCH FUCKING HAIR?!?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 02:26 (twenty-two years ago)

AND NATURALLY, i had to put on spandau ballet's "true" right after running a snake in my heretofore nasty, greasy-ass shower.

and by-the-bye, "only when you leave" is like the BEST steely dan song NOT DONE by steely dan. sean o'hagan probably would want to put a gun in his mouth if he listened to gold.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 02:31 (twenty-two years ago)

and if THIS story doesn't belong on casey kasem's show, then i dunno WHAT does!

negativlandbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh good, I'm not the only one with a clogged drain. My bathroom looks like someone had a bumper curry and didn't make it in time.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

NOte to self: never go to Adams place.

;)

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 02:45 (twenty-two years ago)

It's disgusting. Not only does it absolutely honk of seaweed and Drano, the walls are lined with black goop and massive clumps of the previous tenants' hair.

If anyone can tell me how the smell of seaweed gets in bathroom sink drains, I'd be very grateful.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 02:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Its our lovely Melbourne drains, maybe.

My shower clogs up loads too. I just dump drano in it and it seems to work. Are you using crystal drano? A plumber once told me that stuff can solidify just down the drain, and make things worse. The smell is probably something off like rotting hair. Or maybe a dead crokodil.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 02:51 (twenty-two years ago)

drano isn't supposed to be very good for older, metal pipes. i used some this weekend, and it seemed to work. till i got home, and this morning's shower was still there.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 02:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I have to drain my washing machine into my shower stall, which is fucking annoying when the drain clogs. Ive already had 2 or 3 flood disasters in the 3+ years Ive been in this flat. The hall carpet is totally fubared.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 02:55 (twenty-two years ago)

of course, i COULD just call up the landlord ... but my place is such a mess, and i'm about to renew the lease!!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 02:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you using crystal drano?

Yeah, because we can't find the liquid stuff anywhere.

I have to drain my washing machine into my shower stall

You too? We didn't think to look for a drain outlet when we moved in. Ours drains into the toilet because it's closer.

We have to move anyway, the floors are paper-thin and we can hear the neighbours walking and laughing and arguing and puking.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 03:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Only Crystal Meth will help that nasty clog.

Skottie, Tuesday, 27 April 2004 03:06 (twenty-two years ago)

weird postings elsewhere begin to become clear

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 03:32 (twenty-two years ago)

All roads lead to clogged drains. Or something.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 04:35 (twenty-two years ago)

CLOGGED DRAINS UPDATE!!!

i had to get the landlord involved after all. he was actually pretty nice and understanding, and sent the handyman he keeps on reserve for these sorts of things up to my apartment. it's working fine so far ... the test comes tomorrow morning, during the 7:30 AM shower.

CAN YOU BEAR THE SUSPENSE? ;-)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay!

Ours is still knackered. I was going to take a picture and forgot.

We're going to clear the bloody thing ourselves if it kills us. We even bought a plunger.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Just call a plumber dammit! They have these industrial strength hoosamajigs they jam down the drain to force all the crap out with. Like giant metal pump-action syringes or... something.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 01:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Fixed! It's better than it was when we moved in.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 29 April 2004 00:20 (twenty-two years ago)

mine too!!! yay for us!!!!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 29 April 2004 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Another job well done, thanks ILX!

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 29 April 2004 00:34 (twenty-two years ago)

ILX? Bugger thatXor. I done it with Drano and a plunger.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 29 April 2004 00:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Most mundane thread evah!!!

Eww.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 29 April 2004 00:42 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
them shits is clogged again OH NO! :-(

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 18:21 (nineteen years ago)

I usually just bend and contort an old wire hanger, shove that thing inside the drain (with the lid unscrewed), and dig for as much as I can get, grease and hair and all. These drains get clogged, it's a fact of life. I find that I need to do it every 6 - 8 months or so. You may want to do it less often, maybe once a year depending on how much you think goes down that drain. My hair is long, hence the frequency.

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 23:37 (nineteen years ago)

And yes, it was the thread title that got me running in here.

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 23:37 (nineteen years ago)

emergency over -- my building maintenance guy roXor!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 00:12 (nineteen years ago)

I'm envious. You have a "building maintenance guy". I'm my own building maintenance. Yay ownership?

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 00:15 (nineteen years ago)

No clogged drains here. Just thought I'd say hi y'all and hope you're having a good time and everything.

jim wentworth (wench), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 01:43 (nineteen years ago)

I just did a variation on what Phoenix said (though I think a hanger would work better - thanks!) The shit was definitely foul. Even draino wouldn't eat these clogs, perhaps a testament to the thickness of my jewfro hair.

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 01:45 (nineteen years ago)

ours clogs all the time and we can't drano it away because we've got old pipes, or so the landlord sez. i wonder if that hanger trick would work on our sink? probably not.
