'cause I'm a bit tipsy and I don't want to ruin the threads of others w/my drunken ramblings. Forgetting to eat and then drinking a buncha wine=classic, turning quickly to dud

I feel fine, but would probably fail a sobriety test, presently. Hope I'm at the right address.

jim wentworth (wench), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sober, but don't want to ruin any threads either, so I'll just post here too.

can't find "Mi Media Naranja", but it's probably a good thing 'cause that'll just lead to some embarrassing drunken Labradford-related suicide attempt, so it's back to Ryan Adams. boy, am I trashed

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 03:24 (twenty-two years ago)

What I meant t say is, of course, that I am drunk off this case of Cristal.

Yes.

Was here this evening to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday. He paid for it all. The overall cost had to run into 4 digits given the number of people there.

Am about to try and sleep it off. Oh god that was some good wine. *collapses*

Say I wanted to send someone in the US a bottle of spirits, rather than buy it here and post it, which will cost a fortune, is there a US site where I can buy it and instruct them to send it?

Which I guess will still cost a fortune thanks to shitty exchange rate.

four years pass...

This maybe should be in the Guardian thread, but I don't really have anything espcialyy substantive to report, I just wanted to record somewhere on ilx that Martin Kettle is the worst columnist on Guardian, that is all.

squeak and gibber (Eight Model Play), Saturday, 17 August 2013 17:19 (twelve years ago)

Like, i kanow that puts him up against some pretty steep competion, but the ratio of vacuity of opinions/pomposity with which those opions are expressed in his colums pushes him into first place I think.

squeak and gibber (Eight Model Play), Saturday, 17 August 2013 17:20 (twelve years ago)

Also, i want to propose a Martin Kettle drinking game where you go through the archive of his columns on the Guardian website and take a shot every time he uses the phrase 'grown up' or 'serious' to describe a political position he approves of.

squeak and gibber (Eight Model Play), Saturday, 17 August 2013 17:22 (twelve years ago)

hes shit

No results found for "churl sweatshirt" (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Saturday, 17 August 2013 17:29 (twelve years ago)

he also reviews classical concerts and he isnt so bad in that capacity

No results found for "churl sweatshirt" (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Saturday, 17 August 2013 17:30 (twelve years ago)

I remember him making references to classical music in some of his political columns, it always irked me because the way it was done it seemed like another expmaple of him dress up his boring, uninsightful opinons as SERIOUS COMMENTARY, but I don't really know enough about classical music to judge him on this level. And now i'm worried that the real reason Kettle annoys me is because i'm not serious or grown up enough to know about classical music.

squeak and gibber (Eight Model Play), Saturday, 17 August 2013 17:37 (twelve years ago)

I listened to some of the Guardian podcasts that he was on and he seemed surprisingly un-annoying in audio form, esp compared to some of the other contributors, so maybe it's just somrthing about his writing style.

squeak and gibber (Eight Model Play), Saturday, 17 August 2013 17:39 (twelve years ago)

I think I rember reading and ilx 'worst guardian columnist' poll thread once but i can't seem to find it on search.

squeak and gibber (Eight Model Play), Saturday, 17 August 2013 17:40 (twelve years ago)

because i'm not serious or grown up enough to know about classical music.

Horsefeathers! Classical music is exactly like every other kind of music. All you need to know about it is provided by listening to it. There aren't any hidden notes or anything. They all get played so you can hear them. Everything you could know beyond that is optional.

Francois Hollande is the least sexy president the fifth republic has ever had. All of his predecessors had something, at least.

Giscard didn't do himself any favours with the way he combed his hair over the top of his head, it made him look like he had an 8ft forehead. I still think he was quite a handsome man though.
