So, who's getting a Euro2004 sticker book then? (Now with added World Cup 2006)

Go on, you know you want one really.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 08:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I only do World Cups, Daaahling

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 09:04 (twenty-two years ago)

... and only ones where Scotland are taking part... I suppose that's my sticker book days well and truly over then

Dadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 09:06 (twenty-two years ago)

You are both big girls. I bet you buy My Little Pony sticker books instead.

I've just entered into a four-way sticker book competition with my friends - I am going to laugh when I open up my first packet and get Jonathan Woodgate, Darius Vassell and probably a few other players who won't be getting anywhere near the tournament.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 09:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, I was planning to use this thread to cheat swap stickers with other posters.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 09:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a completed Premier League 94 one at home.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 09:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I traded a classmate 50 stickers for Willie Forrester.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 09:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I have Argentina '78. And it is complete. Bow before me.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

That sticker album is older than at least two people posting on this thread.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 09:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I feel sorry for those who weren't around to witness the genius of Mario Kempes.

The sticker album also didn't mention the supression of atrocities by the Argentine junta. I guess that wasn't Pannini's forte.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 09:50 (twenty-two years ago)

got got got got NEED NEED NEED!!!! I'll swop you 2 foils for that. got got got got got NEED got got got

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 09:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I am going to laugh when I open up my first packet and get Jonathan Woodgate, Darius Vassell and probably a few other players who won't be getting anywhere near the tournament.

... and Cristiano Ronaldo?!!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan, the 94/95 season? The one where Blackburn won the title? I got pretty close with that one. My best set was Pro Set cards from 90/91, which I think I completed. I know I had a ridiculous number of John Barnes and Alan Hansen.

Nick H (Nick H), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

It was a blue and yellow cover, I guess 94/95.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I KNEW this would be a Matt DC thread.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I bought an album and six packs of stickers at lunchtime.

Good (ie famous) players what I have got: Dyer, Pauleta, Baros, Fiore, Zenden, half an England team group shot and England and Portugal shinies. Rah! Also Desailly, Mexes and Zanetti but they came with the album and everyone will have them.

Sideshow - ugliest sticker so far - Christian Worns.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

My France 98 album has a terrible picture of Christian Ziege and his mashed up face. Looks like he's been headbutted by that Hellraiser bloke.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

the sports-bodyhorror genre mashup is long overdue!!

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Can we do sticker swapping at FAPs? It'd encourage me to come along.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

i misread the thread title as "eno2004 stickerbook"

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

FAP sticker swapping is totally urgent and key.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

i got a euro 2004 sticker book too!!

also how come the last time i bought a sticker album (what, 15 years ago?) i'm *sure* it was more than 99p and 35p for a pack of stickers (the 2004 prices)???

i have only one swapsie so far though, and i think he's bulgarian...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

is it a Pannini? I only do Pannini

I have a complete 78/79 season one somewhere, for some reason though I ended up with 12 Peter Eastoes, I remember him from the book very well, but playing? not at all :o( (maybe Jonesy can enlighten me?)

chris (chris), Friday, 14 May 2004 08:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I am falling hugely behind in my competition, as my friends are SAD TWATS who buy 20+ packs a day.

Panini >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Merlin.

If any of you get Ruud Van Nistelrooy, treasure him. He's like gold dust, no one has managed to get him yet. Except there's one Bulgarian who appears in every other pack I buy. He'll be the best known Eastern European in the tournament when it actually kicks off.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 May 2004 08:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going shopping at lunchtime then. for a Pannini obv.

they haven't got that ridiculous deal with not official kits have they?

chris (chris), Friday, 14 May 2004 08:21 (twenty-two years ago)

all pannini, all the time.

photos seem to have various strips, lots of tracksuits so far...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 14 May 2004 08:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope, all official kits. Except half the Danish players aren't in it for some bizarre reason. I remember in the 98 World Cup where all the England players heads were really badly Photoshopped onto the same body. Ian Wright looked ridiculous.

Oliver Kahn isn't in there as well. I reckon Jens Lehmann has been putting the frighteners on Panini.

It contains the campest picture of Marcel Desailly ever taken.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 May 2004 08:24 (twenty-two years ago)

there was an album a few world cups ago and the england players all looked painted and the kit was a sky blue colour, due to image rights with Merlin. It put me off a fair bit

x-post, that's the feller

chris (chris), Friday, 14 May 2004 08:27 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, those danish players who are two to a sticker don't seem to have numbers for the stickers (i haven't got any yet).

most teams have two goalies (we have James and Robinson), so don't know why disco goalie was missed out...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 14 May 2004 08:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Christian Worns is still leading the way in the ugly stakes, you'll all be pleased to know.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 May 2004 08:34 (twenty-two years ago)

nobody else, except us three, is ever posting on thie thread again are they?

(also please re-write the previous sentence so that it is grammatically correct, thnx)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 14 May 2004 08:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I've got mine. I have a Danish flag swapsie. It's stuck to my beanie Bagpuss.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Friday, 14 May 2004 08:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I will bring my swapsies the next time I'm in a pub

chris (chris), Friday, 14 May 2004 08:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Would it be tragically sad to bring our swapsies along to the pub on Thursday? I have about eight Latvians going homeless.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 May 2004 08:41 (twenty-two years ago)

(no)

(well, yes, but lets do it anyway)

(note to self: buy more stickers)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 14 May 2004 09:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sorely temped, but suzy would kill me. I haven't had a sticker book since Italia 90.

Ed (dali), Friday, 14 May 2004 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

CAST OFF THE SHACKLES OF OPPRESSION AND EMBRACE YOUR SPANISH SHINY!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 May 2004 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I've probably got a whole sheaf of gary linneakers somewhere.

Ed (dali), Friday, 14 May 2004 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh I forgot to pick one up, good thing I finish at three today

chris (chris), Friday, 14 May 2004 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Rah! Zidane - The Holy Grail. Except I'm sure they've photoshopped his head to give him more hair than he really has.

What's going on with those ultra-blue eyes on some of those German players? That's kinda terrifying.

I have no Danish stickers whatsoever. But about six Olof Mellberg's and even more of some random Bulgarian.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I have three Olof's from a 20 pack initial start-off purchase, the swine, he really is the new Peter Eastoe

chris (chris), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, I have almost all of Sweden, including both halves of the team photo, put together so badly that the dude in the middle looks like Sloth from the Goonies. Sadly, it is not Freddie Ljungberg.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I really want to do this but not if I can't share the indignity in person.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

i have, as usual, been really bad at actually buying stickers, best of intentions and all that...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

The lady in the shop said "so this is for you yes?" I had to make up a story that I had every one going back to 1978 to hide my embarrasment.. oh...wait....

chris (chris), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

desktops by stevem

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I bought 20 packets last night. Most seemed to contain Karel Poborsky. I asked for Panini stickers in the shop and the Asian woman behind looked at me in horror. She must have thought I said punani.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Thursday, 20 May 2004 09:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't got Pob the Lob yet! Come to the pub tonight G and I'll swap you him for my Latvia shiny or one of my 18 superfluous Croatians.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 20 May 2004 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

The Latvians have erm, out of date haircuts as my lady woman pointed out last night. She much preferred the Italians.

A wider question, when younger did you stick swapsies to your pets? My cat, Fluffy, spent most of the 80's trying to bite Enzo Shifo off her back.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Thursday, 20 May 2004 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

is this the cause/root of your obsession with sticky things G?

i will try and get some stickers at lunchtime, although it's payday tomorrow, so i might wait 'til then (8 packets = a pint!!)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 20 May 2004 09:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i think one last hurrah on here first is the way forward, although BE QUICK, meg is after my pile of sawpsies...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 09:41 (nineteen years ago)

I lost all my swapsies, somehow.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 09:43 (nineteen years ago)

I still have a sad pile of swapsies, but I think they have been denuded of any stickers needed by any of you lot.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 09:46 (nineteen years ago)

Use eBay's "ask seller a question" facility to swap Panini stickers with other frustrated collectors! Costs the price of a stamp!

http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll?from=R40&satitle=panini+swap

I still need a commemorative stamp if anyone has one lying around...

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 09:58 (nineteen years ago)

Less chatting, more impersonal lists of numbers.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 10:08 (nineteen years ago)

0

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 10:24 (nineteen years ago)

Andrew: yes! Thank you, I forgot to thank you. I need four or five more, but I forget which. If you need a min of 20 to write off to Panini, does anyone want to join forces with me?

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 16:12 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, possibly. Shall report back at a later date.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 17:02 (nineteen years ago)

OK - does anyone have:

117 - Paulo Da Silva
197 - Abdoulaye Djire
313 - Sammy Adjei/Daniel Edusei
402 - Josip Simunic
478 - Patrick Muller

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 21:24 (nineteen years ago)

Looking back through that all (for the first time in weeks) was a strangely emotional experience. It's less that we now know exactly what happened to each player (and they were VERY generous with Cambiasso's hair).

It's the empty husk that's left where all that giddy excitement was a couple of months ago, when the summer seemed to stretch ahead forever and we all thought Germany were rubbish and Frank Lampard was a world class footballer.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 21:27 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I've totally lost impetus. I may write to Panini, but possibly only to ask for my money back.

I do, however, have a special England sticker that none of the rest of you have.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 21:30 (nineteen years ago)

It's not going to be David James, is it?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 07:00 (nineteen years ago)

Is it from the Merlin book?

(Can't help you, Matt)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 07:02 (nineteen years ago)

Is it the Fair Play sticker?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 07:26 (nineteen years ago)

Epilogue. The War Is Over (Sleepers)

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 08:18 (nineteen years ago)

i was still as naffed off with the world cup as i was when the ref blew for fulltime in the final (apparently i really didnt know i never wanted italy to win it until the exact moment they did), and yeah when i saw this thread my heart sank. then i read wot matt said above and thought yep, otm. but i dunno, i looked at the album again anyway and do u know, it was great!! eveything i felt b4 it happened came flooding back, and i wz reminded that while wc 2006 still sucked, TEH WORLD CUP is awesome and always will be.

corny huh? anyway, matt, i have a 313 - Sammy Adjei/Daniel Edusei u can have. hugglez etc

rtccc (mwah), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 15:40 (nineteen years ago)

and i still need

146 - jason scotland
246 - oswaldo sanchez
551 - oleg shovkovsky
563 - sergei rebrov.

(oh yeah and seeing the walcott/carrick/downing/hargreaves stickers the sun gave away again wz weirdly cheering too!)

rtccc (mwah), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 15:47 (nineteen years ago)

one year passes...

Alright let's do this.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 15:53 (eighteen years ago)

Re-reading this thread is testament to how little my life has moved on in four years.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 16:03 (eighteen years ago)

So tempted!

ailsa, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

i can't believed i've logged back in, just for this.

anyway:

this week's MATCH magazine (price £1.80) comes with a FREE sticker alBUM and single packet of stickers. I also already have my own dealer, as the nice lady in East Ham Woolies opened the box of stickers (fresh in this morning) especially for me (they weren't even priced on the till yet!).

CarsmileSteve, Thursday, 24 April 2008 09:36 (eighteen years ago)

I fear interest amongst stockists may be hampered by England not being in the tournament this year. We need The Sun or someone to give away a free album and then they'll be all over the place.

Matt DC, Thursday, 24 April 2008 09:38 (eighteen years ago)

bah there'll be no badly 'shopped England players in this year's :(

not sure if I'll do this this year or not.

i discovered the other day I've still got all my bosko balabans doublers from 2006.

onimo, Thursday, 24 April 2008 10:27 (eighteen years ago)

i also noticed, in the pile of sticker boxes behind the counter, TWO WHOLE BOXES of "goal 2006" which i *think* were the trading card ones...

i found my pile of 2006 swapsies the other day too...

CarsmileSteve, Thursday, 24 April 2008 13:19 (eighteen years ago)

I have several hundred jan vennegoor of hesselinks in my magazine rack still.

ailsa, Thursday, 24 April 2008 18:13 (eighteen years ago)

one year passes...

who's ready?

r|t|c, Monday, 12 April 2010 15:49 (sixteen years ago)

i might be ready, if i could find anywhere that sold packs for less than FIFTY FLIPPING PENCE! fuck that!

r|t|c, Monday, 12 April 2010 15:51 (sixteen years ago)

IT IS TIME.

Matt DC, Monday, 19 April 2010 18:23 (sixteen years ago)

I come to you in great excitement to report that one of the Chilean players is called Waldo Ponce. Waldo Ponce! Best name ever.

Matt DC, Monday, 19 April 2010 18:24 (sixteen years ago)

Aw, I'm so unemployed that I can't do this (actually was last properly unemployed in 2006 when we did this before but I lived in a different house with a smaller mortgage and could afford fripperies like this, and all associated beerage that it entailed, in my temporary state of poverty).

ailsa, Monday, 19 April 2010 18:42 (sixteen years ago)

how many packs does one need to fill the yoke

I see what this is (Local Garda), Monday, 19 April 2010 18:53 (sixteen years ago)

I prefer not to think of such things. That way sanity lies.

etrian odysseus (cozen), Monday, 19 April 2010 19:26 (sixteen years ago)

I remember my mum calculating how much my sticker album cost the one time I was allowed to do it (1982/83) and recoiling in horror when it worked out at thirteen quid.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 19 April 2010 19:34 (sixteen years ago)

one month passes...

Just me and Matt then is it? I've got about an inch thick pile of swapsies and i bet i'm not two-thirds of the way to completion yet...

CarsmileSteve, Friday, 28 May 2010 11:33 (sixteen years ago)

Is it ok for 22 year old guys to buy football stickers?

Chris, Friday, 28 May 2010 11:53 (sixteen years ago)

There's another Panini thread on new answers right now Steve.

I'm 31 and several of my friends are buying them. I caught an old schoolfriend buying 36 packs in Sainsbury's last weekend.

The Men Who Stare At Goatse (Matt DC), Friday, 28 May 2010 11:59 (sixteen years ago)

I buy Match Attax for Hannah so I have vicarious excuse.

every time i pull a j/k off the shelf (Noodle Vague), Friday, 28 May 2010 12:00 (sixteen years ago)

I have one swap so far. Bacary Sagna, if anyone needs him?

snakebite and a passable pinot noir (Upt0eleven), Friday, 28 May 2010 12:53 (sixteen years ago)

OMG bacary sagna is the ONLY frenchman i don't have!!!!

CarsmileSteve, Thursday, 3 June 2010 10:09 (sixteen years ago)

Scanning upthread, what absolute madness was I gripped by in April-June 2006? I think it must have been displacement activity. I binned the album that summer sometime.

Yeah he's old-skool. I quite like 1980s kids' TV presenter Benjamin Huggel as well.
