I can happily drink this stuff by the pint. I love the bits. Shake the bottle, wake the drink. Or taste. Or summat. Mmmm, refreshing!

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Fucking CLASSIC!! Most refreshing beverage EVAH!

(Thought the San Pellegrino limonata is close.)

andy, Wednesday, 28 April 2004 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

i had this drink in france once called "bali" i believe, it was like a better version of orangina. anyone else tried it? still around?

duke shagg, Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Love it.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Vodka Orangina = classic.

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Utterly classic, because when you're 12 it's the most cosmopolitan drink available and the bottle is just so tactile. Also, blood orange Orangina is amazing should you ever happen upon it.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

love the taste but sometimes too much of it makes me sick. Why, I don't know.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I can only drink a little.

morris pavilion (samjeff), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm with hstencil. it's classic for the first few sips, then i get the same stomachache i get from sugary sodas.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:09 (twenty-two years ago)

One of the small bottles is enough, two is too much. Orangina should come in little glass bottles, not big plastic ones.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

TS: Orangina vs. San Pellegrino aranciata

the krza (krza), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I can chug this soda BY THE GALLON, the Blood Orange version rocks like a motherfuck. Also, hooray, I was drinking this stuff back in the early '80s (perhaps even late 70's) when it was still called Orelia, which makes me slightly ahead of the soda-drinking curve, maybe.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

(Thought the San Pellegrino limonata is close.)

a gift from the heavens. oh, it's so good. Not that orangina is bad. Far from it. San Pell Orange is tops as well.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

The name makes me giggle.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Aranciata is good too. God, Orelia, that's right. I'm old.

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Best orange drink you can buy that isn't actual orange juice BUT that's not really saying much. I haven't drunk any in years, I might buy a bottle tomorrow and report back.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:26 (twenty-two years ago)

SUPER SOCCO

dean!dean!dean (deangulberry), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I started drinking it when our Ardeche-born French teacher clued us in about it (she was only 25, and this weird combination of terrified and cool) in 1981. Nellie and I used to trudge to the SuperAmerica on hot summer days and grab a bottle each. I've always liked orange pulp.

We live in an Italian neighbourhood here and there are a billion Pellegrino variants to choose.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Great for hangovers. San Pellegrino or Orangina.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate all fake juice on principle (foodism), and was unswayed even by a girl I liked who is obsessed with this stuff. I am intrigued by the blood orange version though.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I seem to recall that the early 80's is when i first had orangina AND the fake-name ice creams: Hagen Daaz and Frujzen Glage (i can't remember how it was spelled. it went away and the Daaz stood alone)

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

B-b-but Gabbneb, it's just like proper orange juice mixed with a slightly less sweet version of 7-Up.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't like 7-up

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Then do it with club soda, it's what I always have on planes.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 22:00 (twenty-two years ago)

omg! freusen gladje!

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 22:48 (twenty-two years ago)

so classic! try portuguese variant zumol (zuma? zumal?) for added fun, add'l flavours

(sumol?)

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 23:36 (twenty-two years ago)

kochemillo > any other soda/juicy combination.

h kottke-stencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 23:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry to be all 9th grade, but I can't see "Orangina" without thinking it's some chick's nom de porn.

Hunter (Hunter), Thursday, 29 April 2004 01:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Orangina Recipes from Seattle's Pasta & Co.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 29 April 2004 03:26 (twenty-two years ago)

CLASSIQUE. When I was ten or eleven, we went abroad for the first time, to Northern France, which was unutterably exciting. This was where I had my first Orangina - the bottle, the drink itself (zing!), I felt very cool. And it had an R in the name - it is a great word on which to practice your gutteral French Rs.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

does anyone else pronounce it "oran-JIGH-na" ?

AaronK (AaronK), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

No.

alix (alix), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

yes

aranciata is my favorite soda although i am currently on a guarana kick

ron (ron), Thursday, 29 April 2004 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Classic, but makes me ill like people upthread. Is Orangina the most sickness-inducing beverage next to alcohol?

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 29 April 2004 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

strange, no? until this thread, i thought i was the only one so affected.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 29 April 2004 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Orangina ingredients: CARBONATED WATER, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP AND,OR SUGAR, ORANGE JUICE CONCENTRATE, PURE ORANGE PULP, TANGERINE JUICE CONCENTRATE, NATURAL ORANGE FLAVOR.

Not too bad as fizzy drinks go but "high fructose corn syrup" is bad...

smee (smee), Thursday, 29 April 2004 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the taste of Orangina, but it makes my tongue hurt. I think I'm allergic to something in it.

webcrack (music=crack), Thursday, 29 April 2004 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

six years pass...

love this shit

The Geirogeirgegege (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 22:39 (fifteen years ago)

Total classic. About the only fizzy drink I like enough to buy.

lol sickmouthy (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 7 April 2011 06:11 (fifteen years ago)

Limonata is superior imho.

City of Jorts (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 7 April 2011 06:18 (fifteen years ago)

They've been running super creepy poster ads in France for the past couple of years

Alan Partridge Project (ithappens), Thursday, 7 April 2011 08:53 (fifteen years ago)

don't drink fizzy drinks but used to love this

Will.Have.Known (Local Garda), Thursday, 7 April 2011 11:04 (fifteen years ago)

FUCK, THIS SHIT IS SO GOOD. Except every time I try to buy it when my mother's around she's all WHY ARE YOU BUYING THAT, JUST BUY SELTZER AND OJ AND MIX THEM. Ugh, fuck off, lady.

ToeJam & Lewis (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 7 April 2011 14:50 (fifteen years ago)

49p for a can is p good

The Geirogeirgegege (nakhchivan), Thursday, 7 April 2011 14:56 (fifteen years ago)

three years pass...

I love Orangina but I have cut soda out of my life (first it was an accident, then I realized I had gone months without soda and figured why not keep at it) and Orangina is hanging on to its non-soda status by a thread:

Carbonated Water, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Orange Juice Concentrate, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Orange Pulp, Natural Flavors, Sodium Benzoate (Preservative), Mandarin Juice Concentrate, Calcium Disodium EDTA (To Protect Flavor)

I'm actually drinking a San Pellegrino Aranciata and the taste is very similar, plus the ingredients are a lot better:

Water, Oranges Juice from Concentrate, Sugar, Carbon Dioxide, Citric Acid, Natural Flavors

You can get a case at Sam's Club/Costco for <50c a can btw

just bought my first orangina for years and lo, I open ILX *while I'm drinking it* and see this thread on SNA.

problematic brother visiting today, wish it was less of a duty and more of a pleasure (as it used to be) + drink is out I think, so need a soft alternative. never quite sure about the BOSAP, but might have to give it another go. or a massive bottle of orangina.

Fizzles, Saturday, 21 June 2014 12:25 (twelve years ago)

drank an orangina the other day. wasn't the same, tasted like a deadhead sticker on a cadillac. have to go with sam pelly these days.

Pew Nornographers (contenderizer), Saturday, 21 June 2014 12:44 (twelve years ago)
