Why do old people make me sad?

When I see a wee old man or woman shuffling along the street bent almost double I feel my heart breaking. Not so much ones in their sixties who seem to be at an optimum age to piss you off, but the ones who look so fragile and lonely. I feel guilty for their vulnerability and it's not because of a realisation that I'm going to be old myself. I don't know why I feel so bad round old people, is this weird?

No I feel this way aswell. I'd say it's natural.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:14 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not our fault they're old. When you look at asian countries where they honour their elderly though it does make you feel sort of responsible. I do worry about all these lonely grannies sitting alone all day and night, occasionaly hobbling to the shop for Rich tea biscuits bread.

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

BECAUSE THEY'RE ABOUT TO DIE.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I suppose it's just human frailty which is kind of saddening.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

erm Nick??

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

If I got to shuffle around all day and eat Rich Tea I'd be happy as larry.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

old people are rude

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

happy as larry

Larry is hardly happy Nick, afterall, he'll never be a Bono.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, but he's still a millionaire, and not a midget either.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i wish old people would keep their wizened faces covered up so i don't have to look at them.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:27 (twenty-two years ago)

But yeah, OK, if I got to shuffle around all day and eat Rich Tea I might be almost as happy as Adam Clayton is on a wet Wednesday in March.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Kilian the real enemy is bald people.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

It's their freaky paper-hand that weird me out, Kilian.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Bald old people are SATANSATANSATANSATANSATANSATANSATAN.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

This is the thread where Ronan, Kilian and Nick go all weird.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Why is needling some aspects of physical appearance considered socially acceptable?

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm off work sick this afternoon, can you tell?

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

old age won't affect adam clayton much, provided he saves enough money to indulge his love of cocaine and prostitutes

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember that thread fondly.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Adam Clayton is Dorian Grey.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

If it was the human frailty aspect then wouldn't physically disabled people make me feel the same way? (they don't)

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Rumpy Pumpkin hates cripples.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess, but maybe getting old seems more inevitable than being disabled, for most of us.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

the worst kind of person to be around would be an old, frail, bald wizened person! that would be awful!

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Worse than The Edge?

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

old people are rude

that's because they have nothing else to live for.

weasel D, i intend to live my last days as an old, frail, bald, wizened, and rude old man.

AaronK (AaronK), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I wouldn't say I hated cripples, that's a wee bit strong. They make me feel bad too but in a different way.

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

My brother sells mobility scooters to wizened cripples.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

And those motorised beds that throw you out.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

i could picture an elderly adam clayton propositioning some prostitutes.

"We're charging you extra because you're old and you have man-breasts. how do you like that, BALDY???!!!"

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)
