The Bottle City of Kandor

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

just about every place I haven't been yet. Except Oklahoma.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:32 (twenty-two years ago)

that new planet they discovered
eldorado
atlantis!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:32 (twenty-two years ago)

- The Giant's Causeway, Ireland
- Easter Island
- Loch Ness
- Chichin Itza,

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Chichin Itza is supposedly not too well preserved. I haven't been, though. Tulum is nice (and the only Mayan site on a body of water).

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.gps.caltech.edu/~kcobb/images/feature2_2.jpg

The Palmyra Atoll and Tristan de Cunha! Remote islands!

(...and maybe Jerusalem.)

tristan da cunha

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

ah yes! jerusalem!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

my parents recently visited the Galapagos and Macchu Piccu. I am fucking jealous, you bet.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Chichin Itza is supposedly not too well preserved.

That a fact? That's depressing. I hear Angkor Wat is being slowly damaged by too much tourism as well.t

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

white cliffs of dover before they fall into the sea

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Fenway Park

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Fenway's overrated. Wrigley's better.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Loch Ness was nothing like I expected. There were shopping centers and major roads!

Carey (Carey), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd also love to see the Uffington Horse.....

http://www.mysteriousbritain.co.uk/majorsites/images2/uffingtonstyle.gif

...and not just because I'm an XTC fan /

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Loch Ness was nothing like I expected. There were shopping centers and major roads!

That's too bad.

The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain is right next to some pretty shoddy lookin' real estate. Not quite as atmospheric as I was hoping.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm visiting Barcelona for the first time in a couple of weeks. Top of my list is Japan - very expensive, and I would rather not go alone, so not just yet. When my wife and I split, we had been planning a holiday in Bangkok and Cambodia, the latter to see Angkor Wat, and I'd still like to do that. I've not been to Italy at all, and very much want to see lots of Bernini's magnificent sculptures in Rome, in particular. There are dozens more - I have travelled some, but the world is full of glorious things to see.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Oak Island, with the most advanced excavating/spelunking tools known to man.
The pyramids in Egypt and South America.
Funkytown.
Beirut, Lebanon, en route to the countryside on the Leb/Syria border my family hails from.
Mecca, Saudi Arabia. During whatever they call that big thing they do there.
Belize, Mexico (I probably spelled it wrong).
Whatever beach it was on whatever that little island was in Hawaii where my dad found those weird statues.
New York City.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

New York City! Who ever heard of a picante sauce made in New York City!!??

andy, Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Dublin, Ireland

Alex, whenever you're ready!

Mine are-
New York (loads of places in America really)
Ibiza
Taize (want to go back)
Cologne
Pompei
Berlin
Paris (properly, with lots of cash)
Egypt (pyramids, specifically)

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

When in Barcelona, GO SEE THE SAGRADA FAMILIA. It'll blow a new part in your hair. It's fucking huge and entirely bizarre looking

Nickalicious....you're Lebanese? My wife's family (on her father's side) is Lebanese.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh wait, I was thinking of Inverness as being nothing like I expected.

Loch Ness was cool. You can still go there, Alex. You can get your daughter a shirt there that says "I am a wee monster."

Carey (Carey), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:59 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell are two must-sees in Barcelona.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

You can get your daughter a shirt there that says "I am a wee monster."

That would be entirely boss!≥

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Japan
More of SE Asia, maybe Vietnam?
Brazil
West Coast (Washington, Oregon, California)
New Mexico/Arizona
Some generically tropical islands
Canada

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:03 (twenty-two years ago)

of places I haven't been, I'd like to visit paris and berlin and tokyo, mostly.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I got the Lebanese in me. My grandma Emerald was from there. I'm really curious about it, as that's the only place I have familial roots that I've never been to. And because it's supposedly really beautiful.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

ha ha I like how CANADA is one place

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Sagrada Familia was definitely the most incredible building and work of art I have ever seen, or expect to see.

57 7th (calstars), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

It is one place. A place called Canada!

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd love to go to Beirut (the Paris of the Middle East, don'tcha know)...although possibly the climate isn't quite that friendly in that region these days.

"Lost in Translation" cured me of my desire to goto Japan. hahaha

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I so want to go to Lebanon. Beirut's much easier to go to now than it was, say, 15 or 20 years ago!

I spent 10 days driving across Canada from Winnipeg to Victoria and still only saw a minor portion of it.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Aussie
NZ
Argentina
Scandanavia
Italia

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

this thread is kinda creepy.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

why?

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you bothered by the "before your time is up" part? I thought that sounded a little less ominous than "before you die".a

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

BTW I was joking about Canada being "one place." Despite being American, I realize there's a lot of Canada up there to love.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Iceland, Japan, Russia, Italy. And more from there too.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Nara, Kyoto, Osaka, and Nikko in Japan are amazing!

I would love to go to Angkor Wat, Cairo, Jerusalem, Damascus, Petra, Istanbul, St. Petersburg, Kenya, Portugal and Greece.

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never been west of chicago.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Kobe was amazing before the earthquake; I have no idea what state it's in now.

Kyoto was also really, really great.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Queens

57 7th (calstars), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

you are supposed to say Asbury Park.

Carey (Carey), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I went to Asbury Park in 1992, and it was singularly depressing

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

it's on an upswing since then.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

New Zealand
Florence
Barcelona
Moscow

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

asbury park, too, and soon.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Asbury Park is the new Fire Island, or something. Maybe I should go open a disco there.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Moscow is probably the most interesting place I've ever been. I saw dead Lenin!

Top 5:
Berlin
New York
Beijing
Barcelona
Cuba

I'll probably go to at least the ones beginning with B in the next few years. What a great thought.

Cathy (Cathy), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll probably never make enough money to go any of the places on my list.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I loved Berlinó

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish it was spelled Berlinó instead of Berlin.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I swear I'm not doing that on purpose. My crappy office computer is haunted.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I know you're not Alex, it's just that Berlinó looks so pretty.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

oops (Oops), Thursday, 29 April 2004 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Beirut, Lebanon, en route to the countryside on the Leb/Syria border my family hails from.

All right! Another A-rab in the house! My parents went to Lebanon etc. on their honeymoon and my mom said it was postively breathtaking. But that was a long time ago. A lot has changed. And not for the better.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 29 April 2004 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

C0L1N B3CK3TT (Colin Beckett), Thursday, 29 April 2004 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never been anywhere. The farthest west I've been is Austin, TX. I'd like to go to California so I can see the Pacific Ocean. I'd like to see Frida Kahlo's house in Mexico and some pre-Columbian ruins. Italy, Spain, Bora Bora, Egypt, Australia.

I'd like to visit:

Italy
Ireland
Japan
Australia
Phillippines (I should be doing this soon)

I've already been Egypt and gone inside the pyramids. It's a steep climb and your legs will be tired. Mine were fine the next day, but my mom and grandma were complaining on and on about the pain. I unfortunatly got bitten by about 80 masquitoes. Yet, my mom and grandma got sick off of food.

Aja (aja), Friday, 30 April 2004 00:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Hanging Rock is the biggest letdown. It's just a rock in a boring park.

"Storm Boy" starring Mr Percival was filmed at the Coorong, near Goolwa in SA. But no need to spoil a good story with fact.

Colin Thiele, Friday, 30 April 2004 03:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Coorong's not interesting. I didn't even know what it was until 2.4 seconds ago.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 30 April 2004 03:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Awww. It looks as though the only participants in any future S.A.-area FAP will be Anthony E. and me, then. Thank you, hon, for saving me from sitting by myself somewhere locally and staring at a glass of some potent or non-potent potable while wondering if this was indeed a good idea. Conversation always works best when two or more people are involved, anyway. :)

Scandinavia is still number one.

And Egypt. But I'm so paranoid I can't even make it to the supermarket let alone go to Egypt to see my favourite pyramid.

And Japan.

And maybe New Zealand to see the weird cretaceous era plantlife.

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 30 April 2004 06:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Antarctica and the Northern Lights are on my wish list. Plus Angkor Wat and Madagascar.

Contray to upthread posts, Chichen Itza is one of the best preserved of all the Mayan sites, but also the most visited. Go early. If you're interested in the Maya, Tikal in Guatemala, Palenque in Mexico, Copan in Honduras and Caracol in Belize are the most impressive cities.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Friday, 30 April 2004 07:43 (twenty-two years ago)
