The Space Needle fell in the first like 2 minutes.

I'm a sucker for cheesy cataclysm films, and their adherence to a certain formula. Smaller catastrophes, a scientist who figures out what's going on but no one listens to them (except for one random plucky young person), the politician who wants to nuke something, the politician who cares deeply about their missing relatives, etc. Except in the case of this film it was oddly the scientist who suggested the nukes, whatev.

I was a little disappointed at the "end" of last night's ep when I found out I was going to have to wait another day before I got to see California fall into the ocean though. Weak.

Also, what's up with the new trend of "end times" films like this miniseries and "The Day After Tomorrow" (where the world...or at least NYC...is consumed by icy waters)? Do we need this sort've entertainment in the wake of actual eye-popping disasters ?

i felt like San Francisco got gypped, we only got one really fake ass shot of the Golden Gate Bridge coming apart (complete with very laconic narration from the news reporter in the helicopter: "It's unbelievable. I can't believe it. It's twisting, it's bending."). What about the Transamerica Building? What about all the other bridges that can fall apart? CHEAP.

Also, Kim Delaney and Beau Bridges make me homicidal.

Fred Ward had better have been extremely well paid for this or facing a looming financial disaster. Otherwise, he will remain unforgiven. The single most terrifying aspect of the show was the dialogue but i only say that upon reflection. Last night I was braying with hysterical laughter.

I had trouble standing on my feet during a 6.5 quake on the 7th floor of a building from the 1920s. Supposedly the rocking we had there was equal to what you'd feel in a 7.3 (I don't know who came up with that number, it's what our landlord told us a week later.) So 7.5 -> 8.5 is a ten-fold increase... then another to 9.5 and yet another to 10.5. I'd guess you wouldn't be able to easily stand. ;-)

everyone stared breathlessly at the new geographic configuration that turned southern california into an island and smiled at how beautiful it was, (the air suspiciously free of the smoke you'd expect there to be if AN ENTIRE 1/8 OF THE STATE had been destroyed), and they ignored the fact that presumably millions of people had drowned. We got a beau bridges voiceover about how man is not the master of nature or some BS. No-one important died, unfortunately. I was hoping in the last second, the earthquake was start up again, swallow Kim Delaney, and they'd cut to the credits.
