i'm not sure if his name was actually long, but when i worked at a chinese takeaway food place, there used to be this guy we called "The General".

The first time he came in, he ordered food and then took out his cheque book, the boss tapped me on the shoulder and said quietly "don't laugh". And JESUS FUCKING CHRIST I SPENT THE NEXT 3 MINUTES HIDING UNDER THE COUNTER LITERALLY FUCKING ROFLROFLOMG WTF ROFLROFLROFLROFLROFL as this man spent THREE MINUTES scribbling on this cheque as if he was a fucking human spirograph on this tiny little cheque, for THREE MINUTES!!!!!!

Haha I had to wipe my tears when he finally handed me the cheque and FUCK i was tempted to ask him to give another example of his signature.

I went to school with a kid named Stewart Andrew Rotblat-W41ker, whose mother remarried a guy name Dell Pendergast-H1gson. He opted not to adopt the complete name: Stewart Andrew Rotblat-W41ker-Pendergast-Higson, which, I feel, was a solid decision.

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

The English ones are actually more hilarious than any other, but classic. I'd tell you all mine, but I'm not Googlebait.

I used to work for a guy named B0b Ge0rge.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait, move the Th3r3s3 between the Cl4r4 and the Br1dg3t. Yeah, that's it.

That somehow looks like a diagram of three dimensional chess.

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to work for a guy named B0b Ge0rge.

How've ya been since I fired yer lazy ass?

For? Sounds possibly lewd.

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to have an internship with a guy named B0b Ge0rge as well. At least, I pretty sure that's what the B. stood for.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

The problem is that I interned there when I knew jack shit about pop music. So I was pretty useless, as interns go.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I feel like I brought you 2 together in reminiscence.

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I interned there in, like, 1992 I think? I expect he won't remember me. But I still wish him well.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

This is what, in the jargon of Romantic Comedy, they call 'meeting cute.'

People with very long names are only dud if they insist on being called by their full name.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

No, that's classic. They're dud if they try to use some folksy handle like, 'Al' or 'Chuck'.

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm particularly enamoured of the full name of Dot Warner from Animaniacs.

In a story I wrote for today's newspaper, I deliberately mentioned a kid named Chris VanMeppelenScheppink, though he wasn't essential to the piece.

BanjoMania (Brilhante), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Barima,

What is her full name?

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 21:50 (twenty-two years ago)

WHen I worked at the Passport Office this hippy family once came in with their kids application, and the poor bastard's name was so long we had to ask them politely to elect a few names to omit, because the whole thing didn't fit on the passport! It was something like Star Rising Rainbow Over The Lush Meadow Of The Lone Indian Hidden Tiger Dragonball Z or um, whatever.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd just keep the name Over. How many people can have that name. Plus, think of all the jokes.

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 22:06 (twenty-two years ago)
