sorry, I've been hearing it all day directed to me/other people/etc in my new office.

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Good for you!

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

You go, Gear(l)!

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Way to go!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Your parents must be so proud!

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Get in!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

how very.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

get out!

m. (mitchlnw), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Nice one, my son!

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Rah!

Barima_Ned (Barima), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

well isn't that special

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

i like saying "look at you!" when people are way too excited about whatever they've just done (the dishes, for instance - big whoop).

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm a fan of the slow, sarcastic clap

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i like saying "look at you!" when people are way too excited about whatever they've just done (the dishes, for instance - big whoop).

it sounds like such a queer eye thing to say -- like some really ungainly person will emerge from his makeover looking MARGINALLY better but still ridiculous and one of the guys will emit a deadpan "wow, look at you" that's just complimentary enough not to seem like an outright insult.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

the slow sarcastic clap needs to be done thrice, followed by saying "Terrif."

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, that's super.

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

aka feh.

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

"look at you!" is the sort of thing a psychologist would say to a retarded kid

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Sometimes, I just say "Yeah!" very flatly.

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

another one i like is when non-foodies try something that's completely foreign to them and rather than admit that they don't like it, say "it's interesting."

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

"flavourful!"

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

more annoying is that the "look at you!" person always ends every sentence she says like a question? because that's how she talks?

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Is she Australian?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

My favorite (which I'm super-guilty of myself) is the deadpan "Oh, that's funny."

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:15 (twenty-two years ago)

people can usually tell when I'm really bored with someone because I'll look off to the side and use my "conversational talk-space" to say nothing other than "nice" or "sweet" in a flat tone.

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Really?

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Sometimes I'm like the "Uh Huh" radio host from Wayne's World 2. But I will hear you if you start mocking, don't try it.

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Nice

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

My favorite (which I'm super-guilty of myself) is the deadpan "Oh, that's funny."

Embrace the sarkiness, Jay. If you're lucky, they won't think you're serious.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

But I will hear you if you start mocking, don't try it.

What if the the mockery is done in a pitch only dogs can hear? If you can sense that, then tis SuperBarima: "Able to leap buildings in a single bound, and reduce the brain-dead to ask with laser-vision!"

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Uh huh.

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I hear all.

Spider Jerusalem (Barima), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Just opt for "yay" slightly grudgingly.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

"look at you!" is a nice thing to say.

I never say it but I think it's nice when people say it to me.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

that sweater looks kinda... FUN!

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

mmkay?

geeta (geeta), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

whoopie-doo's

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

SHUT. UP! ARE YOU SERIOUS?

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

"it musta been quite easy (wink wink smiley)"

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Not!

andy, Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

"God. Stop. My sides are splitting."

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, Fabulous.

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

get outta town!

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Are we having fun yet?

(A buddy of mine's mother is a walking encyclopedia of ten year old obscure pop quips... now she's starting to call people "Baby Girl." She watches ALOT of daytime TV.)

andy, Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

That is sooo choice.

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

NO WAY!

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I dunno but "look at you" strikes me as the kind of thing you'd say to a puppy.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

"You Go Girl!"

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Woah Dude (in faux American accent)

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

"Good job!" when you've managed to oh, I dunno, stay upright for longer than two seconds or something.

penelope_111, Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

"Back of the net."

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

... vs people who say "Funny" rather than laugh at your jokes (or Americans, as they are known).

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

That's a good one.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Depends on which state you're looking at, Andrew.

(xpost)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

funny.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

laff riot.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, good times, good times

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

It's funny, y'know? It's humour.

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

get away from my desk, please

bnw (bnw), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I just misread the title as people who say "fuck!" enthusiastically when you tell them etc. Those people are the true winners here.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

"Good deal."

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the "Uh huh" demonstrated up thread actually.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 12 May 2004 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

LOOK AT YOU ALLY

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

"more annoying is that the "look at you!" person always ends every sentence she says like a question? because that's how she talks?"

Like most young women in NZ. It's linguistic drift, you can't fight it, you have to embrace it.

isadora (isadora), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, how aBOUT that?!?

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I live in Los Angeles, I think she's from the San Fernando Valley...

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

and reduce the brain-dead to ask with laser-vision!"

Asking with laser-vision, the choice of a new generation.

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Well pin a rose on your nose.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

You got it. *high fives*

Allyzay, Wednesday, 12 May 2004 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

"look at you" can be fine, but i would think it's more for family and not co-workers.

Orbit (Orbit), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

"Kick-ass, dude!" *spiffy handshake/fingersnap*

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmmhmm, yeah, uh huh.

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Stoke!

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

"Boo-yah!"

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Rock on!

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Whaddaya want, a paper hat?

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 13 May 2004 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 13 May 2004 12:02 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 13 May 2004 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Okayyy...Moving on quickly now,...

Baaderoni (Fabfunk), Thursday, 13 May 2004 12:06 (twenty-two years ago)

penelope_111, Thursday, 13 May 2004 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh that's just fabulous! Did you make that yourself?

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 13 May 2004 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)
