the late spring thunderstorm is done, the air is cool and misty -- a perfect time to break out the blender and go gaga for girl drinks! i'm working my way through a pitcher of frozen strawberry margs. i haven't had this much fun since last secretaries' day, donchaknow!

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 13 May 2004 01:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I just drank a $5 bottle of sparkling wine. Does that count?

kirsten (kirsten), Thursday, 13 May 2004 01:15 (twenty-two years ago)

sure!

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 13 May 2004 01:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Can you pay more than $5 for a bottle of sparkling wine? If so, why would you?

m.e.a. (m.e.a.), Thursday, 13 May 2004 01:17 (twenty-two years ago)

You're right, this IS fun!

kirsten (kirsten), Thursday, 13 May 2004 01:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I had three margaritas at Cowgirl Hall Of Fame tonight and they knocked me around a bit. Perfect margarita day in NYC today...

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Thursday, 13 May 2004 01:18 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm on antibiotics so no drinking for me currently. i had to sip iced tea last night while hstencil drank margaritas. i wanted to cry. i still want to cry.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 13 May 2004 01:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I Think you want this thread now.

GOTCHA! (Dan Perry), Thursday, 13 May 2004 01:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be back in NYC in June, please have a margarita night then, thanks.

I just came back from Villa Sombrero in Highland Park. Their large margaritas are up to $9.00! So I only had one.

Arthur (Arthur), Thursday, 13 May 2004 02:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be back in NYC in June, please have a margarita night then, thanks.

of course! please keep us abreast of your travel plans.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 13 May 2004 02:43 (twenty-two years ago)

strawberry margherita does not compute.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 13 May 2004 06:23 (twenty-two years ago)

mmm... girl drink pizza.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 13 May 2004 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

hahaha I totally thought lauren started this thread then I remembered she's still sick.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 13 May 2004 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

since when are margaritas girlie?

Though I don't really consider them margaritas I still always loved the 'pink lemonade margaritas' at Sidewalk.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Thursday, 13 May 2004 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a Mexican restaurant about 150 yards from my buddy's house (where we record mad lotta music) that has 2-for-1 slushy (shitty) margarita specials thrice a week, and by tipping the bartender 100% for like two weeks he's started sneaking us the big ol' REALLY FUCKING GNARLY top shelf margaritas 2-for-1. Also because we caught us laughing at him calling another customer "pinche pendejo" I think. I love stumbling back from that place while it's still daylight then drunkenly laying down sloppy-as-fuck upright bass tracks.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 13 May 2004 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

since when are margaritas girlie?

Their gender-neutrality may be a function of latitude, but I think you have to go to daiquiris to reach girly.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 13 May 2004 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

daiquiris def. girly.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Thursday, 13 May 2004 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I love daiquiris.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 13 May 2004 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

QED, I know, I know.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 13 May 2004 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

we got a taste for rumruunners while away, they're as girly as hell, but strong too.

chris (chris), Thursday, 13 May 2004 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

margaritas are probably considered girlie when frozen and fruit-flavored as opposed to the more macho plain straight up or on the rocks. although they're pretty, i avoid the pink ones from sidewalk cafe as all they do is make me sleepy.

xpost - a strawberry daquiri poolside is like a manifestation of god's love.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 13 May 2004 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

my friend Eve and I used to go there and drink them by the pitcherful. Once after such an adventure she knocked over a tray of ketchup bottles and we decided from their looks that the staff hated us.

more NYC tequila fun: the last summer I lived there my roomate and I had the bottom floor of a brownstone in Greenpoint. There was a fantastic deck in back and it was party central all summer. We would make multiple trips to the liquor store down the street during a single weekend . I manned the blender and, at the request of my Yankee friends, often cooked up some authentic frito pie. Not my choice of snacks for eating with margaritas but they loved it.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Thursday, 13 May 2004 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

i know this has been mentioned on other threads, but to-go margaritas from el sombrero on ludlow street are u&k (just avoid the food!).
s, blame the cowgirl hall of fame for making ny'ers think that frito pie and margs are a natural combo.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

to-go margaritas from el sombrero on ludlow street are u&k

correct. and actually i like their food (when i'm drunk enough, which the margaritas usually help with). sometimes i just really want greasy refried slop covered in mounds of cheese!

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I like El Sombrero's food, too.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

s, blame the cowgirl hall of fame for making ny'ers think that frito pie and margs are a natural combo.

I felt it was my duty to make them in order to correct the chof's mistakes. they just dump chili on a bag of fritos!

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

El Sombrero's food is about as Mexican as haggis.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

rockist.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Huh?!

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Huh?!

I'm as mega-authoritarian about Mexican food as anyone can get and even I know there are two different kinds of Mexican food. There's the authentic food and then there's the greasy stuff you eat to act as a moderator/speed brake for tequila consumption. Both are great.

If you eat at Taco Bell, I can't help you.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

taco bell not being mexican food has been covered ad nasuem on ilx.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

taco bell not being mexican food has been covered ad nasuem on ilx.

Nevertheless without eternal vigilance, it can happen here.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 13 May 2004 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Elvis - I agree that both kinds of Mexican have their place. What I was pointing out was that The Hat's food is just a poor facsimile of Mexican food - bland and greasy . As a drink cushion it definitely hits the spot, but at least San Loco across the street is tasty!

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Thursday, 13 May 2004 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

liquour! it's about liquour!

alright then, a similar tangent. margaritas at taco cabana, c or d?

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Thursday, 13 May 2004 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, my bad. What's taco cabana?

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Thursday, 13 May 2004 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

a bit better tex-mex fast food. broader question: liquor in fast food establishments?

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Thursday, 13 May 2004 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm all for it.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 13 May 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

but you want to bring down mcdonald's because they sell fattening food?

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 13 May 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

because they sell fattening food and NO BEER.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 14 May 2004 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

fattening beer 10X better than fattening food.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Friday, 14 May 2004 01:01 (twenty-two years ago)

the kids'll love it

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 14 May 2004 01:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I never said I wanted to bring down McDonald's?!? I just don't eat there.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 14 May 2004 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

'pink lemonade margaritas'

I'm definitely in then!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 14 May 2004 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm heading to happy hour with my editor here shortly. I'll have a margarita for all the ilx0rs out there.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Friday, 14 May 2004 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Pour it on the floor for Biggie. Don't do anything for Tupac; he's a bum.

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Friday, 14 May 2004 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Friday, 14 May 2004 20:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Taco Bell may not be Mexican food but it's great. Ditto White Castle.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 14 May 2004 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

i need many margaritas tonight.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 14 May 2004 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 17 May 2004 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

six years pass...

I remember my mom once got obsessed with making perfect little salt rims on glasses after starting work at Outback Steakhouse. She would come home and practice and then serve us all grapefruit juice in salted glasses.

Stop Non-Erotic Cabaret (Abbbottt), Friday, 21 January 2011 01:01 (fifteen years ago)

She also bought 170 shot glasses because they were 10ยข each. She says she plans to use them for desert shooters? 170 of them?

Stop Non-Erotic Cabaret (Abbbottt), Friday, 21 January 2011 01:02 (fifteen years ago)

i went to happy hour intending to get a margarita, but i wanted nachos more, and that led to beer.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Friday, 21 January 2011 05:20 (fifteen years ago)

i love you but i have chosen snarkness (Steve Shasta), Friday, 21 January 2011 06:03 (fifteen years ago)
