Random Money Acquisition!

So I got asked by the mag I write for to judge this battle of the bands for kids, and I thought "grrrrr they ask me to do stuff cos noone else will and I accept cos I need the work and I have my time and I don't even like the music and obviously they don't pay me".

I just got an email from the organiser with the details, and then he says "oh and by the way I'll be giving you a cheque for €100 for your time and as a token of my appreciation!".

YES!

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 14 May 2004 10:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan, that's payola. You surely can't accept it.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 14 May 2004 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

yeh, you should give everyone a shit review and slag off the venue and all the organisers on principal.

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 14 May 2004 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

There's no review required! I have to judge the thing, that's all.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Make all the kiddies cry in the Simon Cowell stylee.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

obviously if I was reviewing it I'd take the money and pan it.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I am terrified of how bad they'll be!

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

wear shades and an alter-8 face mask to hide your disgust/amusement

chris (chris), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

go as the Grim Reaper and judge by giving a macabre thumb-up or down depending on their performance

stevem (blueski), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

or point the finger of death at them a la Soccer AM

chris (chris), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I wonder will there be any nice girls

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

at a battle of the bands? For kids?

hmmm (hmmm), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

then you should point the finger of lurrrve at them

chris (chris), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

By kids I mean I think they're 17. is that ok?

there'll be finger pointing alright.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:25 (twenty-two years ago)

beckon them, to your judgly booth

chris (chris), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe it's not ok, I won't be trying to schmooze with 17 year old goths OK.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

sell out

chris (chris), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, I shouldn't joke, apparently the winning artist gets five fucking grand!

I feel like I should get more than 100 now. Still.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:27 (twenty-two years ago)

*trying to expel the image in my head of Father Ted at the Lovely Girls competition*

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

"she truly is a LOVELY GIRL. oops I mean LONELY GOTH"

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, wait, if the venue is paying you to be a competition judge Ro, then take the cash, I was on crack and thought you were reviewing it.

It's no different from being asked to appear on telly as Ronan from XYZ mag. You'd get £150 if on BBC and payment for that's never an ethical issue.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 14 May 2004 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

The other day I checked my checking account online to see how much money was in there, and I got this message saying something about how the amount represented in my account might not be completely accurate, and then when I checked my balance, it said I had exactly $2,500.00 in my account, which is about $2480 more than is really in there. Unfortunately, when I called the bank, they had the correct amount listed on their computers. But it was random, and somewhat related to money acquisition!

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 14 May 2004 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

The obvious thing to do is pick a band (preferably one who's more decent than the rest anyway), get a quiet moment with them and offer to pick them if they'll give you 20% of their winnings.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 14 May 2004 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

NA I hope you don't bank with N0rthw3st C0mmunity B@nk in Chicago. They did something like that to me once, except it was a debit of $800, drawn from two checks written by people I've never heard of to a condo association, with different account numbers and different banks from mine. Fortunately I got it sorted but it wasn't fun.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 14 May 2004 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

That's my bank, but since they had the correct balance in the bank computers when I called, I'm not that worried about it. Plus, this wasn't a debit, it was a balance of $2500.00.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 14 May 2004 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

well NA just be careful, they don't run too tight a ship over there.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 14 May 2004 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, I shouldn't joke, apparently the winning artist gets five fucking grand!

The best plan might be to enter the competition yourself, and then since you are also judging it ensure you win. Easiest five grand ever.

C J (C J), Friday, 14 May 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I may not be doing this anymore, it's in the balance now, for some reason. I am pleased I won't have to go but I could have done with the 100 quid. I am mildly irked by being told I was doing something and then told not.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 14 May 2004 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

You could give us the money.
