see, he is quiting saturday night live now.

which is good. fucking smirky-tosser.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Sunday, 16 May 2004 03:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Has Jimmy Fallon ever done anything truly funny on SNL? Because if he has, I missed it. I think his only function on that show is to make his dumb smirk all the time so that people watching at home can imagine that there's some incredibly hilarious joke going on that only he's in on and if they could only figure out what it is, they'd be in on it too, and they could be in their little in-joke heaven with Jimmy Fallon - but yes, the bottom line is that the guy is just not that funny.

o. nate (onate), Sunday, 16 May 2004 04:00 (twenty-two years ago)

(Though to be fair, he did a creditable job filling in for Dave on the Late Show that one time.)

o. nate (onate), Sunday, 16 May 2004 04:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I won't miss him! Now just get rid of that fucking Horatio Sanz fuck and maybe they can get through a fucking sketch without being the only people in the world laughing at themselves.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Sunday, 16 May 2004 04:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Horatio Sanz is one of the greatest things to happen to SNL. Good riddance, Jimmy Fallon, though.

C0L1N B3CK3TT (Colin Beckett), Sunday, 16 May 2004 04:54 (twenty-two years ago)

agreed. horatio sanz is almost always funny. in fact, he was the only funny thing on snl tonight. maybe its just because of how fat he is though. i wish i was fatter. fat = funny.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Sunday, 16 May 2004 04:59 (twenty-two years ago)

i love it when they start laughing in the middle of a horribly unfunny sketch.

kyle (akmonday), Sunday, 16 May 2004 07:30 (twenty-two years ago)

favorite Fallon thing evah was in the SNL oral history reading him talk about how no one on the show does drugs. right-o, Mr. My Head Might as Well Be Made Out of Powder.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Sunday, 16 May 2004 07:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Always seems strange when actors leave successful shows to pursue feature career--before they have a feature career. Given that they make only 22 new episodes a year (in general) on a series, that leaves half the year to make features without losing their "day" jobs.

I can sort of see Jimmy making it, nonetheless. I don't think he's that funny, but he has a winning quality. He might be able to play hapless good guy roles with some success. Romantic comedy, rather than real funny jokey comedy.

Or maybe he'll bomb big time.

Skottie, Sunday, 16 May 2004 13:05 (twenty-two years ago)

He can't do any worse than Norm McDonald...

Prude (Prude), Sunday, 16 May 2004 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

That's an interesting comparison, Prude. Of the many people who've gone on to big success in movies, how have the weekend update anchors done? Some of them:

Chevy Chase: initial promise, now a big fat loser
Jane Curtin: two long running TV shows
Norm McDonald: Not much
Dennis Miller: Weird career moves: HBO, football

Who else sat at the Weekend Update desk?

Skottie, Sunday, 16 May 2004 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Kevin Nealon as well? I think Brad Hall was an anchor back in the Joe Piscopo/Eddie Murphy days.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 16 May 2004 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Kevin Nealon, A. Whitney Brown, Al Franken.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 16 May 2004 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Fallon would make a really superb Bond villain.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 16 May 2004 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Beware the oily arms of death, Mr. Bond!

COLIN QUINN!

I miss A. Whitney Brown.

David R. (popshots75`), Sunday, 16 May 2004 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Pretty sad when the highlight of your career is a Star Trek episode. Voyager, even more so.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 16 May 2004 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

More so than an Altman film?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 16 May 2004 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw Earth Girls Are Easy AND Fraternity Vacation in the theatres!

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 16 May 2004 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

When is Darrell Hammond leaving...he adds nothing to it..

Phil Dokes (sunny), Sunday, 16 May 2004 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I miss A. Whitney Brown.

Did he ever become the Whitney Brown?

nickn (nickn), Sunday, 16 May 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Norm MacDonald is still a great comedian. Also Dirty Work is classic, obv.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Sunday, 16 May 2004 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I have to say, that radio DJ bit that Jimmy Fallon does is pretty funny. "And we're BAAAAAAAAAAACK!"

Scott CE (Scott CE), Sunday, 16 May 2004 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Woah Jimmy Fallon has hella thick thighs! WTF! He looks like he's built for birthing!

Dan I. (Dan I.), Sunday, 16 May 2004 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

colin quinn was the worst ever

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 17 May 2004 05:09 (twenty-two years ago)

sadly he wasn't

cinniblount (James Blount), Monday, 17 May 2004 05:12 (twenty-two years ago)

who was worse.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 17 May 2004 05:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Kevin Nealon

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 17 May 2004 05:34 (twenty-two years ago)

jimmy fALLION PLEAEs be as funnny as jhorashioh sanzzz k tthx bye u asssshole

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 17 May 2004 05:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Now we all can see what happens when a feller resorts to drinking windshield washer fluid!

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 17 May 2004 05:37 (twenty-two years ago)

kevin nealon was pretty rough--the material was terrible and he wasn't a great announcer, but didn't colin quinn basically just bark at the camera in a monotone?

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 17 May 2004 05:39 (twenty-two years ago)

JAEGER ISN"T QUITE WINDSHILED WASHER FUILD ALETHOUGH I WON"T SAY ITN"S NOT A TALENTED BEVRADGE

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 17 May 2004 05:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Kevin Nealon ruled you fuxors. He wasn't actorly or newsanchorly but the writing was so much ridiculously better than the abysmal Quinn era. Quinn can suck a dick.

NA (Nick A.), Monday, 17 May 2004 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyone mention Brad Hall yet?

Fallon just isn't that funny. But he's still better than Maya Rudolph.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 17 May 2004 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

what?! maya rudolph is the best thing about the show now

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 17 May 2004 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

And even if the writing was good for Kevin Nealon it didn't matter as he couldn't deliver a single line without messing it up. His stand up is not bad, though.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 17 May 2004 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

alex in nyc off tm. maya rudolph is so so awesome.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 17 May 2004 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Rudolph is so patently unfunny and tries so damn hard that I break out in hives when she appears on the screen.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 17 May 2004 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

this thread title made think he had died.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Monday, 17 May 2004 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Am I the only one who thinks Rachel Dratch is hott?

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 17 May 2004 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't know about dratch but i think maya rudolph is hilarious and hot--a winning combination for the new millenium!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 17 May 2004 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Am I the only one who thinks Rachel Dratch is hott?

Yes.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Am I the only one who thinks Rachel Dratch is hott?

If by "hott" you mean disarmingly creepy, then yes.

My wife can't stop referring to her as "Frodo".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

fred armisen: c/d?

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

The only thing I've seen Armisen do is that Latino talkshow host shtick, which left me cold.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Good. She's all mine then. (x-post)
Fred Armisen has potential.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Chris Parnell is the most versatile player they've got these days.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Does this mean Tina Fey gets weekend update all to herself now? THIS MAKES ME FULL OF TEH HAPPY.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

snl's most slept-on cast member = amy poehler

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Ding ding ding!

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

They should just fire all the mens except for Horatio and Parnell and get Will Ferrell and Tracey MOrgan back on the show and fire whatever writer it is that thinks repetition is an effective comedic tool and then it would be KILLER DILLER DOODS.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Nick, the only guy they need to shitcan from the show is Sanz (& possibly Hammond), & they gotta give more work to the zinger guy & the Falconer. Also, I think the SNL "writer" that thinks repetition is the key to success is Lorne Michaels, unless they've kept someone else around for the past 10-15 years.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the person who hired Kel (or is it Keenan?) needs to be fired.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

ha ha I forgot the Falconer

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Darrell Hammond used to be super-funny, wtf happened there?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

repetition is an effective comic tool!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

The "it's hot too" thing from Pootie Tang supports that theory.
The last ten seasons of SNL don't.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 17 May 2004 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

When used effectively! (x-nick) Repetition, as employed by Adam Sandler (fer instance) (gimME some candy, bitch) is numbingly ineffective.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 17 May 2004 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Armisen should replace Fallon on Weekend Update.

The Falconer is so bad it's funny -- the new Lothar of the Hill People.

Andy K (Andy K), Monday, 17 May 2004 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

"I'm Jeff Tweedy. I'm big-time musician from New York City..."

Armisen's hilarious.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 17 May 2004 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i can't believe people still watch this show.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Monday, 17 May 2004 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Farrell used to be mildly amusing, but then he seemed to fall in love with himself and the hype and just ended up smirking and giggling over how funny he thought he was. Good riddance.

I haven't watched the show in a while, and while it's not a bad thing that he's gone it's hardly an inducement to start watching it again.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 17 May 2004 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i think i only know who he is because ally used to be in love with him.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Monday, 17 May 2004 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

For some reason, this thread really pisses me off. That's kinda dumb. I'm not sure why I keep reading it.

NA (Nick A.), Monday, 17 May 2004 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)
