It was pretty intense because I first drove an hour to see my friend fight in his first amateur bout and win, then I drove back to meet my dad at the sports bar to see the Roy Jones fight but he called me in shock to tell me it was already over. Still pretty hard to believe.

I laughed so much I nearly cried.

Yeah, I've been waiting for someone to give RJJ his comeuppance but I kinda doubted it would be Tarver. Still very happy he finally got knocked out though.

I think there's just something uniquely brilliant about journeymen fighters, they're the lifeblood of the sport, and yet they never get a moment in the sun.

This was awesome. Happy to part with 50 bucks (well 25 split with my buddy) to see that bitch go down. I had Tarver putting Jones down in the 9th... the 2nd is good enough for me.

Did anyone catch the first 3 fights? The welterweight fight was hella good but ended with a disappointing bullshit decision.

That clip is the first I've seen of it. Looks like Jones' head hid the canvas harder than Tarver's glove hit his face. Awfully quick count, too. Not a very convincing comeuppance.

Do you really think, had the ref let it go, that Tarver would have gone on to win? Not if RJJ makes it out of that round.

I don't understand the schadenfreude... I haven't followed RJJ's career very closely, but has he even ducked a fight? He fought fucking heavyweight!

Jones talks like a little bitch.

Jones came out in the 1st swinging and trying to look hard but Tarver was keeping him away really well. I think if Tarver hadn't gotten that lucky shot in Jones woulda worn himself out, leading to an assbeating.

that was a really weak knockdown

it's difficult to tell as the tv camera is in the worst possible position

ryan (ryan), Monday, 17 May 2004 01:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know about "worst possible," I mean they still haven't tried putting it inside a fighter's trunks

That would depend on the fighter though.
