Ray Parker Jr.: You Got Knocked The Fuck Out!

Having been horrified to find an LP in my parents' collection by a band called 'Raydio', comprising the multifaceted talents of Ray Parker Jr, I did a bit of research and discovered the ugly bastard doesn't make music anymore, but has seven greatest hits albums to his name. Seven.

1. The Very Best
2. Chartbusters
3. The Best of Ray Parker Jr. & Raydio
4. Greatest Hits
5. The Best of Ray Parker Jr.
6. Ghostbusters: Encore Collection
7. The Heritage Collection

Six of them contain Ghostbusters.

Is there a reason anyone would ever buy a Ray Parker Jr greatest hits album [apart from retirement villas and country craft shops]? Am I missing something?

Xgau thinks so.

I mean, is there a reason anyone would ever buy a Los Lobos greatest hits album?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 17 May 2004 01:29 (twenty-two years ago)

1992 The Singles
1995 Sunglasses at Night
1998 Best of Corey Hart
2002 Classic Masters

Ringo Starr has nine:

Blast From Your Past
Ringo
Starr Struck: Best of Ringo Starr, Vol. 2
It Don't Come Easy
Vertical Man [Box]
Anthology & 10 Year Anniversary
Anthology...So Far
Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band: The Anthology
Best of Ringo Starr: 20th Century Masters/The Christmas Collection

Lucky for him the term 'greatest hits' isn't relative then.

The Who win this one hands down. I think they release a new one every year -- and another one just came out!

los lobos have done some good stuff actually.

that was the point. "some" and "good" are understatements, if anything.

I think there are more Sweet greatest hits collections than Fall albums.

Try to find anything by the Lovin' Spoonful that isn't a greatest hits version.

I don't know about Los Lobos but I've been wanting to get it out of my system and admit that "La Bamba" is one of my most hated songs ever. My new job forces me to listen to the "oldies" station ALL DAY.

thanks, blount, but threads like this are why I barely bother anymore.

haha that should be "rarely"

Dude 6 have ghostbusters on so obviously there are all worth getting, but why would anyone buy the one with out it? PErhaps your parents can't read?

Frank Swedehead, Monday, 17 May 2004 06:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Raydio were indeed the shit.

The fact that Parker's on Marvin Gaye's I Want You (not to mention Leon Ware's Musical Massage or Herbie Hancock's Secrets or records by Jon Lucien, Candi Staton, Tina Turner, Cheryl Lynn, Teddy Pendergress, the Blackbyrds and and etc) would override 10000 compilations containing Ghostbusters.

Andy K (Andy K), Monday, 17 May 2004 07:29 (twenty-two years ago)

plus "Ghostbusters" is grebt

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Monday, 17 May 2004 07:30 (twenty-two years ago)

thank god blount's headline tag didn't make it through and fuck up the entire board

I love "The Other Woman" and "I Still Can't Get Over Loving You"; the latter has terrific English synth-pop lines.

He got called to the side of the stage at a recent Little Richard show I was at as "Ray Parker, y'all" and we spent much of the rest of the night trying to figure if it was definitely him until we could match a picture.
