I was sitting in the bath thinking about telly the other day as you do and it struck me that I haven't seen an episode of Mr Bean since I was about 14 yrs old. Somehow I remember seeing the abysmal film at some point too.

But was the show actually any good? I remember being pretty amused by his capers as a kid but don't know if I'd find it very funny as an adult.

What impresses me though is that one forgets that Rowan Atkinson who plays Bean, relying almost entirely on physical humour, was also Blackadder who always relyed on snappiness and verbal wit to get his laughs.

Also, was Mr Bean the precursor to the Alan Partridge/David Brent characters?

i loved the first few at the time but i haven't been able to stand the character for maybe over ten years now so i guess that's a Dud for me. i'm not sure Bean paved the way for Partridge/Brent esp. as Bean takes his cue from Chaplin among several other icons

It was piss. The appeal was a mystery to me, esp b/c I really enjoyed "blackadder"

i think the audience was different to blackadder. Mr Bean really was a family show. Anyone could understand the jokes.
