My flatmate's shower gel contains it, and I read the bottle every morning while I'm in the bathroom, and I can't stop thinking about it.

it's an essential oil that smells nice.

Japanese onomatopoeia to thread!

Yum yum.

My main problem is that further down the bottle it's got the same thing in french. "A l'ylang ylang". It just sounds like Klingon.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that in japanese, saying the same word twice makes it funny. Or at least a bit more playful and, you know, wacky. Hence "Dance Dance Revolution" rather than just "Dance Revolution", etc.

Ylang-ylang: It means "Flower of Flowers" or "Queen of Flowers." The trees, bearing frangrant drooping flowers, are grown for the perfume trade in Reunion. The essential oil varies greatly because of climatic and botanical differences. The four commercial grades are: Extra=the finest, first distillation; One, two and three.

Medicinal action: A strong sedative, ylang-ylang is antispasmodic and helps lower blood pressure.
Cosmetic action: Used as a hair tonic and to balance oil production in all skin types; although recommened for oily and problem skin.

Emotional action: The fragrance makes the senses more acute and tempers depression, fear, jealousy, anger and frustration. It is also aphrodisiac in LOW doses; high concentrations can produce headaches and nausea.

well, i've already told jim this story, but...

my old flatmate also had some shower gel with ylang ylang in it. and EVERY SINGLE TIME i took a shower, i could hear jack from will and grace say 'i got some new cologne, it's ylang ylang. y-like y-like?'

which is slightly amusing and slightly annoying.

so i moved.
