Portland FAP May 20-21st... (it's not Ned, just me)

I'm coming down to see the Sun City Girls this Friday, the 21st, and to just have a couple of days in Portland to myself, though I'd be happy to meet anybody around during those days if possible for a FAP.
(craving those hazelnuts and cheese at The Farm... mmmmmmmmmmm)

(I found a cheap place near downtown called Inn At The Convention Center...$40 a night for a single room (compared to the $100+ a night in most downtown hotel locations, it was a steal)

Two questions...
a) are rooms at this place like Chuck Bukowski's toilet?
b) is Broadway Bridge a pedestrian bridge (as the inn is just across the river from downtown via this bridge)?
c) if the answer to "b)" is no, can i assume there is easy bus access to this bridge, even later at night?

The answers to these questions might very well influence the hotel/motel/inn choice for the Ned FAP.

You should stay at the Banfield Motel at 37th and Sandy (a 5-minute walk from the Hollywood Transit Center up on 42nd). I stayed there for $45 a night. It looks like a scary hooker motel but it's clean and quiet.

Actually, never mind, my motel is right off Holladay and NE MLK Jr. Blvd. I can just take MLK Jr. south to Burnside, tadah... downtown.

If I take you to the Farm and then take Ned or my mother to the Farm then I will have eaten there, like, 5 times in 7 weeks or something like that!

Anyway, I suspect that Inn is going to be fine. If it's the one I'm thinking of it's a generic cheap motel. Also you'll be right near the light rail -> free train ride downtown. (That said I think the Bway bridge is in fact pedestrian but I've never tried to walk it so I'm not sure.)

I should be free for nosh or drinks. Preemptive PDX FAP 2! Ned, who planned so far in advance to have the first PDX FAP, is coming in at a distant third...

Dude, I think some of us here in Seattle have eaten at Thai Tom 5 times in 7 hours.

I did some snooping around the TriMet page, and it's right on the 6 bus line, which seems to cross Burnside (for the 12 bus line), and then go into downtown via Hawthorn bridge. All in all, it looks like a good convenient location for low moola. And cheap generic motel is exactly what I want.

You have to pay for the bus, the MAX is faster and free and you will be like 2 blocks from it. Also you will be a few blocks from the mall, and maybe you can see Tonya Harding there!

Sweet Tonya, Saint of Clackamas County, Angel On Mall Ice -- I bow my head in your presence when I see you in Plain Pantry buying cases of beer.

jack cole (jackcole), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 00:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Isn't it now Sweet Tonya, Saint of Clark County, The Couve?

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 01:09 (twenty-two years ago)

she'll always be Clackamas County in my Heart.

jack cole (jackcole), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 01:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Either way, I will drink her wine, if she has any on her, in the rare blessed event that I meet her.

DB: Thursday night would you be down for "The Saddest Music In The World?"

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 05:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm having dinner with somebody Thursday night, but don't know exactly when... so very possibly. What is "The Saddest Music In The World?"?

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 05:30 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a thread about it. Canadian movie, Guy Maddin directed, Mark McKinney of KitH and Isabella Rossellini, supposed to be great. The movie would be at 9 at Cinema 21.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 06:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, it's been here the day and a half so far. Went to see "The Saddest Music In The World" movie with Casu, Mista Celesteville and Ms. Side Salad last night. Great movie!

About to go the Indian Chaat House with Mista C then do some Settlers then go off to see the Sun City Girls. Jack, hope to see you there!

look for the dumbass with a beard wearing jeans and an awful light green shortsleeve shirt with cocktail recipes on it.

jack cole (jackcole), Saturday, 22 May 2004 01:16 (twenty-two years ago)

You can talk about me when the conversation runs low.

Aimless (Aimless), Saturday, 22 May 2004 01:50 (twenty-two years ago)

DB kicked ass in a tight game of Settlers using the development card approach. Songs were sung about the number five and it was debated whether or not it would be safe to introduce Ned to this game.

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 22 May 2004 05:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Many thanks to Casuistry, Celesteville and Ms. Side Salad for much of my accompinent and comradery throughout the two days,

Jack Cole who I talked to all too briefly and need to have a full conversation later that involves something more than "Score one for New Hampshire!",

Douglas W. and his wife, who were at the show in spirit but had just gotten back from the east coast so were really tired and hopefully I didn't make them more restless by my excitement of seeing them,

also Kirk, my old friend from San Diego who was once in a recognized avant weirdo rock band called Trumans Water (and still somewhat is in Portland today but just barely) who I finally got back in touch with after almost a decade and who will be in Seattle on Sunday with Norwegians doing weird music at the Funhouse (Kirk also now being in a band with ex Unwound and Last Of The Juanitas.. more on that later).

also the beautiful woman named Michaela who lives in Olympia who sat next to me on the train on the way back to Seattle for being really cool to me and other stuff...

to the Sun City Girls for going beyond even my high expectations of evil, vulgarity, and rock freak-outs..

and the cool people at my motel who are really conveniently located and CHEAP!

and the Montgolfier Brothers who are now providing the soundtrack to my current typing under the album The World Is Flat which is really gorgeous...

I took a few pics.. will post probably tomorrow.

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 22 May 2004 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

cerberus shoals hurt my ears and soul.

jack cole (jackcole), Sunday, 23 May 2004 01:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, they kinda made me not want to listen to Tom Waits and Captain Beefheart for a while... I like weird bands, but not bands that try and sleep with the professor of Weird 101, ya know?

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 23 May 2004 08:34 (twenty-two years ago)

However, they are the only rock band I know from Maine, and seem well rehearsed enough, so they, um, deserve some props... maybe.

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 23 May 2004 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Aimless: You can talk about me when the conversation runs low.

Well, the conversation turned low, so let's talk about you

(also, if you ever want in on a FAP, you're more than welcome to raise your virtual hand; and we'd be more then welcome to meet ya, Aim)
