The Other Boards S/D

Just had a quick flick around the non-ILM/ILE boards.

What am I missing? What's worth looking at? What's not worth looking at? (a lot I can imagine).

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 10:11 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't mind everything i smy fav

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 10:14 (twenty-two years ago)

the moderator board is my fave

the surface noise made by people (electricsound), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 10:20 (twenty-two years ago)

search: I love books.

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I Love Comics is undergoing a growth spurt.

I Love Film keeps people who blather on about Heat and De Palma away from polite society.

I Love Books is the real success story, fine community of pleasant people.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 10:28 (twenty-two years ago)

and me.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I lurk on I Love Books quite a bit.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

So do I, though I have posted a couple of times. It's really nice, it kind of reminds me of how ile used to be.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it benefits from the fact that many of the posters don't post across the other boards.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I posted once on I love books, and that post has appeared on a number of other sites (with my name).

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

It's the Italians I like. They misinterpreted the 25 words thread and post each entry within that word limit. No matter the thread.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 12:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Bless them. I heart ILB. It's comfy and friendly and every thread doesn't degenerate into a private conversation between people who know each other.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Hi accentmonkey, how's it going?

ha ha

Mikey G (Mikey G), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Yum, cliquey.

What are you doing over here anyway? Don't you have a book you should be finishing?

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

And er... What is I Rate Everything all about? From the looks of things it started as I Hate Everything and then turned into a alter-ego of ILE?

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Ask A Drunk isn't what it used to be.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

The last time I looked at I Rate Everything they were talking about Shortland St so I just assumed they were all Kiwis and went on my way quietly.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I Love Campanology is surprisingly well supported.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I really think an "I Love Linguistics" board would be worthwhile to be honest.

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I have heard enough about ILBooks to consider it, I fear the timesucking qualities heartily though. Casuistry insists it's not that busy, though. (As it stands, being on a board talking about the great modern novels when you're trying to write and sell the great modern novel [or something] might not be the best approach.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha I just looked at I Love Books and the first thread I clicked on was basically all "Wow, I'm certainly glad we are all civilized and proper unlike those barbaric cretins in I Love Everything; Fiona, could you pass me a crumpet?" It made me want to cause mischief.

It is distressing to realize that my online persona most models Loki.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Hm, maybe we could tag-team the place.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:04 (twenty-two years ago)

you are a pair of dirty trolls, now stop being naughty ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

so many football threads lately, perhaps it is finally time for the separate board - even in spite of the season now being over?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Red flag to a bull, Carsmile.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, I think I killed a thread on Coleridge by mentioning something about "sexy vampire goth byatches". I feel awful!

NERDS! Let's go nick their lunch money!

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

no separate footie board, no no no

chris (chris), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I am very glad I Love Comics has taken root, it's a fun little place. Props to Leee.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm with Chris on the football stuff -- it should stay here.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

it was decided that a board called "i l*ve f**tball" may attract the wrong sort, which i agree with...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a certain amount of irony on ILB. However, we do all dress up for our monthly Jane Austen nights. The last one was a real wheeze.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I think ILB has had a bit of a detrimental effect on ILE though - ie there are no book threads on here any more where there used to be quite a few, and the tone of the board has changed. Siphoning off all the footy threads would make it even worse. ILF at least hasn't kept film discussion off ILE, which is a good thing.

Also while ILB is likely to attract lots of nice polite genteel people, ILFootball could attract all sorts of dodgy people. Also we're going to get the the stage soon where everything has its own little board and there's nothing on ILE other than random chatter.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I can see the argument for ILB though - book talk tends to go slower than football talk or political arguments or whatever, purely because it takes much longer to read a book, so perhaps it makes sense to have a slower-moving board.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

can we set up I Love Irony, I'm sure it'd be just wonderful

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

How about a I Love Football and Books Board?

Genteel thugs to thread.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Mikey, that would just cause an influx of Nick Hornby fanatics.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:18 (twenty-two years ago)

the very devil himself.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

ILF at least hasn't kept film discussion off ILE, which is a good thing

ILFilm is a bad thing imo. but perhaps a lot more people on ILE are turned off by seeing so many football threads. the point about unsavoury characters is sound though.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I Love Reading About Drinking Gob Loads Of Lager And Hitting Stuff.

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

AKA I Love Irvine Welsh?

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I Love West Ham.

That's not a suggestion for a board, just my state of mind.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I Love Ham could be even more focused.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

How about a I Love Football and Books Board?
Genteel thugs to thread.

"I like a good pint, a good fight and a good read". Raffles, The Gentleman Thug to thread.

Michael B, Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Tasty armpit ham!

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

See, Dan, I specifically set that up for you to make the reference. Well done.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Stop demeaning my football team or I'll see you on the I Love Pistols at Dawn board.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

The real question is whether Mikey is an Iron Maiden fan too. Cause all West Ham fans are, aren't they?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

G is a goth not a metaller, what do you think the G stands for???

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I Love Ghoul Mascots

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Goths can be metalheads! Why, look at Dan here.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Pls keep ILB away from meta-paralysis, okthnxbye.

bnw (bnw), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

While books other than novels (of the kinds cis describes) are discussed on ILB, when someone starts a thread on "Canadian authors" or whatnot, it usually seems like they're looking for novels. But I disagree with cis: I think novels are just as much a specialization as history books, and they're personally a bit alienating, since for the most part I don't read them (and you could argue that when I do read them, I don't seem to read them "as novels" -- I read them as social histories, or poetry, or humor, or whatnot).

And -- and! -- as I think the poetry threads show (and ILComics, in its way) (well, ILX in general, I guess!), ILB becomes more interesting exactly when people talk deeper about their specialities.

bnw: Well, there's a reason this in on ILE, inn't there.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

ILB is not all things for all people obviously. There aren't enough people on it daily for that to be the case. And yeah, most people on there are big fiction readers. You will find that true most anywhere. But there have been interesting non-fiction/history threads. I dunno, i like hanging out there. It is slow, but i think that's part of its charm. I mean it's not TOO slow. You know? It's a relaxing/entertaining kinda slow.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, but ...isn't this a tad pretentious?

"though also because for many people "books" mostly seems to mean "novels"
Who are the many people?

aimurchie, Tuesday, 18 May 2004 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

the wily eskimos

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

i love baseball rules the school right now

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Kerry (dymaxia), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

TROLL TIME

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

"Can someone tell me who founded baseball?"

"What's the infield fly rule?"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

OMG M1KE P1AZZA Is TOTALLY GAY LOL!!!!1!! PLZ P1MP MY INFIELD HOMRUN OK THX XOXOXOXOXO????

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

If I Love Baseball was around 10 years ago I probably would have loved it. But I just can't get into it now, the Tigers have permanently scarred and damaged my psyche.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

the true "ilb"

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

S: I Love Baseball, I Love Books

I love film has never caught me - the critical discussion of film itself is more interesting here at ILE (more people posting), and there's not much discussion on filmmaking at all (not that I have anything I could add).

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I do have to say that most of the time I really do want all of my criticism to be at the "OMG WHAT A HUGE FUCKING BABY!!!" level.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

*points, laughs*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

(I have just realized that Dan and I could easily replace the Three Stooges as needed.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

The Two Goofy Goths

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Nyuk nyuk nyuk.

"HEY ABSINTHECHIN!"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

You are all dead to me. I am off to build my coffin of delightful despair. *picks up plank, turns and accidentally smacks Ned in the noggin*

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

aw that's too bad, diablo.

Kerry (dymaxia), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

the tigers are on the upswing!

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 19:17 (twenty-two years ago)

yup. dimitri young should be back with in a week.

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

It's too late.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I almost completely forgot I'm going to a game next month though, maybe that will change my mind.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 19:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe if I start a Cecil Fielder thread?

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually I think we had a subthread on hitters employing the "All or Nothing" approach to batting prevalent among late 80s Tigers (Fielder, Deer, etc.)

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks for all the ILC love! I couldn't have done it without its wonderful posters, but most of all, Our Savior Jesus Christ.

And Chris, if you want more indie comix on it, just go ahead and post it! Plenty of indie people there, I'm sure, or if not, "if you build it, they will come."

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha never have truer words been said re: indie comix fans!

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

(Sorry)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

gygax, wasn't cecil in japan in the late 80's¿

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

just 89 but yeah, he wasn't a tiger until 90.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Leee, I know, and if I had anything I wanted to discuss I would, but I'm not even that widely read with indie comix to start up such a thread.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyway it's seriously fun to watch you all geek out about the superheros.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)

five months pass...
I Love Comics is great.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Huck, Daver and Tep are like my 3 wise men of comics now!

No offence intended to any other ILCer's

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

And Transformers made the Best Of poll! (We will have a Transformers thread sometime when I've reread them. I loved the recent GI Joe/Transformers, surprisingly.)

Best boards, in order of how often I check them or how much I enjoy them or whatever:

ILComics
ILBaseball in season (not that it's bad during hot stove time, just less to talk about)
ILE
ILCooking
Noise Board
Aeon Flux (Peter Cheung posts there, it's a slow board but there's some posts about what'll be on the DVDs, etc)

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I Love WWE is the best board on here. Fact.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Not enough happening there, Dom - it's one of the five I read (down from seven since I resigned as a mod): ILE, ILM, Comics, Books, WWE.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

three months pass...
yOU SHOULDn't miss out on this!!

Superman is a Dick

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

yOU SHOULDn't miss out on the "superman is a dick" thread on I Love Comics!

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, it seemed like the Trarck back pingy thing was taking ages to come to life.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
the Tesdrinkers board which i set up ages ago and became neglected has had a bit of a revival from random teadrinkers. without wanting to blow my own trumpet (because it's nothing to do with me) it's now been taken over and is my fave thing on the internet this week.

dog latin (dog latin), Saturday, 25 February 2006 03:01 (twenty years ago)

six years pass...

there are too many boards now

Luomas (admrl), Tuesday, 6 March 2012 01:04 (fourteen years ago)

http://www.ilxor.com/ILX/ThreadSelectedControllerServlet?boardid=40&;threadid=51414#msg23

Mark G, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 01:14 (fourteen years ago)

ach.

anyway, that was a list of loads of the old boards

Mark G, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 01:16 (fourteen years ago)

need more new boards imo

flopson, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 01:22 (fourteen years ago)

think it would be cool to have a sub-board that's off or at least default off site new answers

flopson, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 01:30 (fourteen years ago)

I Love NFL is the best board on ILX by far.

Mr. Snrub, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 02:44 (fourteen years ago)

Thinking of starting an I Love Mitt Romney's Money (Almost as Much as Mitt Romney Does) board.

clemenza, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 02:47 (fourteen years ago)

If some people would care to squat in the discarded shell of Ask A Drunk, in the manner of a hermit crab, I would not object. The weird echoes in there creep me out at night.
