What would actually happen if the US-UK pulled out of Iraq this afternoon?

I've been hibernating a bit, and was shocked to hear some think-tanker yesterday recommend Iraq be divided in three ('like Tito's Yugoslavia') and left to its own devices.

Of course, Yugoslavia was a notable success, but are there flaws in this plan? Would evacuation end the violence? Or has the invasion unleashed forces that won't just die down like that?

I wouldn't want to be in Israel when US forces "get kicked out" of the Middle East.

Because of course all those massively powerful and united Arab nations will immediately attack Israel as soon as the US is out the picture.... duh

I wouldn't much want to be in Israel with the US forces in the mid-east propping up a fascist state much, though. As a Palestinian.

Which fascist state is that? Israel or Saudi Arabia?

Not its originator but some yugoslavia model, http://www.nybooks.com/articles/17103 no. 6

Fed ethnic divisions kind of put my heart down in my stomach, though

Pulling out is not a reliable birth control method, nor a reliable invasion/occupation method. Inevitably, some fertile thing gets left behind.
Like Jihad.
