Seattle FAP May 22nd: M0unta1n G0atz! ! !

I think we should so what we did last time. Arrive at Hattie's Hat around 7pm, have dinner, then hang out, maybe poke around Bop Street Records, then walk to the show next door.

Although I'll make a suggestion.. get your tickets for the G0atz show NOW. I went over to Sonic Boom Fremont, and they were all out of tickets. Then I went home and tried to get one online, but Ticketweb was being lame and claiming my browser didn't recognize cookies (which it does) so I had to phone in my ticket purchase.

I'm sure this show will sell out, so don't sleep.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 00:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 00:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 00:14 (twenty-two years ago)

ron (ron), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 00:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Say hi to the good man, since I will have to miss his Portland and LA shows. :-(

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 00:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Mountain Goats need to play PSU so I can have a one man FAP in his honor. Good excuse to get sloshed.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 00:40 (twenty-two years ago)

oh shit that record store, oh shit that record store: I had forgotten: and my record-buying disease is in a mean flush right now: oh shit

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Aw, that's my birthday. I'll be there in spirit.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 01:02 (twenty-two years ago)

If the PDX show sells out before we figure out how to get a ticket without paying EIGHT DOLLARS in service charnges online then I will be a VERY SAD PANDA INDEED.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I need to cross the border just so I can see a Mtn Gtz show at some point! This paperwork thing is a real pisscutter!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

There are ways to avoid the paperwork!

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 01:23 (twenty-two years ago)

We've got our tickets! WOO HOO!!!!!

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 01:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris, tell j0hn those ways so we can have Goaty FAP goodness in Toronto!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 01:32 (twenty-two years ago)

The key is in renting your gear at McWhatevertheirnamewas and/or having a giant yellow wooden box be your amp and filling the car with huge and ancient photographic equipment.

Oh, also, not being famous helps.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 01:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Long and McQuade?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 02:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 02:23 (twenty-two years ago)

J0hn sounds like he got BOP STREET FEVAH!

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 02:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely, J0hn, you can join us at the Hat for dinner and to show off your many Bop Street purchases...

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 04:54 (twenty-two years ago)

J0hn, I would love to hear how last weekend's radio conference thingy went if you get a chance to get on aim or whatever. Or here. I'm just curious to know if my colleagues are total assholes or what.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I got tickets for Jen and myself. So I'm goin back to sleep now.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Just realized that the next Celesteville show is the same night as the PDX Mtn Gtz show. Sheesh! So we're trying to heroically do both.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

1. I am extremely down for all aspects and facets of this FAP, which will be my first.

2. I have tickets. In fact, I have one EXTRA ticket, so if it is already sold out, someone can get my extra (or actually, even if it's not sold out).

3. Today's SW features a classic "Letter from an old person," which actually uses the word "Phooey," and complains of bands who take "smarmy photos as they strike phony poses." (actually a good point). Classic.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 22:48 (twenty-two years ago)

4. And, on a more related note, it has a jukebox jury with Mr. Darn1elle

Scott CE (Scott CE), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

...which was also written by someone who posts here on ILX, so yay!

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:11 (twenty-two years ago)

haha i have to read that and see if geeta used any of my song suggestions

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Well she started with an easy one: Ignition: remix.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Here's da jury

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 20 May 2004 01:34 (twenty-two years ago)

that letter is ridiculous. what was he talking about, the jazz winner?

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Thursday, 20 May 2004 01:38 (twenty-two years ago)

ppl I am generally not good for much before-show hangin' out, dinner, conversation etc. as I become a completely neurotic monster once I'm touring

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Thursday, 20 May 2004 01:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I was about to add this. If I may suggest, meet up beforehand, enjoy the show heartily, and only then introduce or reintroduce yourself to John D. afterwards, if he is available. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 May 2004 01:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Also bring him vegan kindereggs.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 20 May 2004 02:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I will be very careful and not approach him pre-show at all.

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Thursday, 20 May 2004 02:31 (twenty-two years ago)

x-post re: the old man letter. It's so ridiculous that it almost seems made up. It should be read in that Dana Carvey old man voice and followed by "and that's the way it was--an we LIKED it!"

Sincerely,

Codger P. Curmodgeonly

Scott CE (Scott CE), Thursday, 20 May 2004 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

He will so fly off the handle like the soup nazi. "No 'The Sign' for you!!!!" *you run away in shame

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 20 May 2004 02:35 (twenty-two years ago)

oh you'd be amazed at the letters we get. that's not the only one of its ilk, trust me. I had a guy call me once about Rod Smith's Pauline Oliveros preview, practically spitting into the phone, "What is this all about? Who the hell is this person? Does she play an instrument?"

"Uh, well, yes, she plays an accordion, there's a picture of her playing one right next to the review."

"Well, what the hell does 'lowing like a bull moose at the onset of rutting season' have to do with music?"

"Well, he's describing the guitar. If you look at the sentence, he clearly states that this is the sound the guitar makes."

It went on like this for five minutes before he started talking with a sneer not a bark, and I hung up on him.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Thursday, 20 May 2004 02:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Scott, you forgot to mention the rather Tourette's like "Flibbity flippity FLOO!" that Old Man uses!

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 20 May 2004 03:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyway... Hattie's Hat.. 7pm Saturday. Right next to the Tractor Tavern, with, I think, Bop Street Records between them (oh darn.) It worked out well last time. It should work out well this time.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, I can give rides to 2-3 people who live somewhere reasonably close to in the UW-Cap Hill-Dowtown-Queen Anne-Freemont corridor (just not, you know, like Lynwood or something).

Scott CE (Scott CE), Thursday, 20 May 2004 17:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Jen & I can probably provide a ride to a couple folks as well should they need it.

Here's hoping that the person behind the counter at Bop Street on Saturday is one of the ones who doesn't have a $$ agenda.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 20 May 2004 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

haha no I am not like evil-minded neurotic, just mortified of catching cold, talking too much & wearing out my voice, etc. So I usually hide in the dressing room 'til showtime.

Anybody comin' out to Anacortes tomorrow night? It'll be fun!

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Friday, 21 May 2004 00:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh I wish. It's at the Dept of Safety, right? That looks like a really great venue.

Tonight I'm going to once again try to get tickets to the PDX show.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 21 May 2004 01:02 (twenty-two years ago)

the Dept. of Safety was inspired by Vancouver's late and much lamented Sugar Refinery, which I wish was still open, so I could see the Mountain Goats there.

dammit, come to Vancouver someday! We've still a few good venues, I think.

derrick (derrick), Friday, 21 May 2004 04:09 (twenty-two years ago)

i am pretty sure i will be at the jolie holland show ~6pm at the sunset. so i will have a look at hatties and/or bop street when that's over

ron (ron), Friday, 21 May 2004 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I finally got my PDX ticket. I know you were all worried and needed resolution on this issue.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 21 May 2004 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

J0hn, can I get a hug if I come to the LA show? Please?

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Friday, 21 May 2004 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

N0?

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Friday, 21 May 2004 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

H311 n0?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 21 May 2004 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

somebody put you up to this in order to spook my hypochondriac ass, right?

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Friday, 21 May 2004 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Look for tMG's new album "Safe" in stores this November!

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 21 May 2004 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyhoo...do we have a headcount on this thing? I count DB, Me, martin m., jen., layna? DB, do you need my extra ticket?

Scott CE (Scott CE), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I believe DB has his ticket. He's in Portland now to see the Sun City Girls, though.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Add my husband to the list.

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Look for tMG's new album "Safe" in stores this November!

Includes the incredibly danceable single "Spook My Hypochondriac Ass."

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

H311 n0?
-- roxymuzak (roxymuza...), May 21st, 2004.

I didn't know you were also John. Sorry.

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I was just expanding on your theme -- I didn't think the zero in your N0 was obvious enough.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 22 May 2004 03:22 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, well I don't know what anybody looks like except DB (from the copious documentation of other Seattle FAPs on which I have missed out), so I will look for him. I would post a picture of myself but I am at work and don't have a picture of myself here. But if you see a deeply tanned, slightly European looking gentlemen with a thin mustache, wearing a white tuxedo with a single red rose affixed to the lapel waiting for a table in Hattie's Hat, chances are that's not me.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Saturday, 22 May 2004 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going to be there as well. Might have a plus one, though that's as yet undecided.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Saturday, 22 May 2004 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Hi, I just got back from the bus from the train station from PDX just now.

OK, so... yeah, I'll just bus over to downtown Ballard and just meet y'all at 7pm.. I'll ask for a table of, like, 8 people or so... sound good?

Scott, I look like Fred Durst with glasses and no red hat. I'm currently in blue flannel and darker blue jeans. I should still be dressed as such at Hattie's Hat.

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 22 May 2004 23:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Scott... this thread has recent pics of Matos, Jen and me for your reference. (It has pics of donna too, tho I dunno if she's comin to Mtn Gootz or not.)

martin m. (mushrush), Saturday, 22 May 2004 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

So was there rock?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 23 May 2004 06:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Did they play "Against Pollution" or "Dance Music"? Those are the two I'm hoping for on Monday.

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 23 May 2004 07:10 (twenty-two years ago)

IT WAS R0CK! Much fun had by all. The same hardcore Vancouver posse (the ones who wore the "Satan's Fingers", "The Killers", and the "Hospital Bombers" T-shirts at the last show) were up in front once again. Show sold out.. again. Surprise visit by the drummer of Refrigerator! and his girlfriend. He didn't play, but just happened to be in town, and was snuck into the sold out show at the last minute. During the last song of the set, a really quiet one, one girl just blurted out "John, i FUCKING LOVE YOU!" which threatened the ambience (meant to be pronounced in french) but then warped it and enhanced it. It was another hugely appreciative audience for the show. I think J0hn's voice was in much better shape this time around, in fact. Matos, Donna, Jen, Martin, Scott, Layna, Doug, and i did our Hattie's Hat dinner thing (with J0hn graciously stopping by to say hi), then all of us minus Layna and Doug went to a Lock & Keel after the show, and hung out some more. MUCH record buying was done at Bop Street... the winner tonight? M M M M M M M atos. (I'll let him elaborate if he wishes)

(Casu, they did at least one of the songs you mentioned)
