What other things are perfectly ordinary smelling, i.e. pleasant, under normal conditions but when altered slightly, become vomitous?

Gas at the pump until one gets a droplet on the finger

onions smell much tastier on the BBQ than they ever taste. But in keeping with the topic, they smell pretty crap when the smell gets on your hands after chopping them up.

Yeah, tobacco. I hadn't thought of that. To extend, an ashtray smells bad full of butts and ash, but EVEN worse when you pour water in it. And stir.
