i gotta say, the twentieth century fox thing is the greatest piece of music ever!! why doesn't someone use that opening (including the visuals) in a music video, for a soundtrack to a fox movie or something? how great would that be?

it's also totally fun to sing aloud!

See also, the beginning of "Jump Around" by House of Pain.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

do they use it?

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

"2001" had a pretty good opening fanfare too... but that was three years ago.

the Tchaikovsky sample U2 used as an intro to "Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car" was nice

The Jump Around fanfare isn't the Fox one, I'm not sure what it's from. It goes "BLLLAAAAH...BLAH BLAH BLAAAAAAAAH!"

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought it was "MAHHHHH....MAH MAH MAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH" followed by the "EEEEE...chuk chuk chuk chuk chuk chuk chuk chuk....EEEEEEE"

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Best fanfare of the last 30 years: "Regyptian Strut," Frank Zappa.

*ducks*

I thought it was "MAHHHHH....MAH MAH MAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH" followed by the "EEEEE...chuk chuk chuk chuk chuk chuk chuk chuk....EEEEEEE"

Yeah that's it. Can't forget the "EEEEE." That's pretty clutch.

NA prolly heard a remix or something.

That HBO theme song, my god!

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 20 May 2004 02:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Woah! you don't realize how many of these you know until you try to think of some. I can think of at least like 6 of them off the top of my head, but the only ones I can put a name to are the Star Wars one and the Disney home video one.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Thursday, 20 May 2004 02:18 (twenty-two years ago)

The intro to "Jump Around" is a sample of "Harlem Shuffle" by Bob & Earl.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 20 May 2004 02:24 (twenty-two years ago)

"Rocky and Bullwinkle" theme song.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Thursday, 20 May 2004 05:27 (twenty-two years ago)

The EEEE...chunka chunk part isn't the fanfare though. That's the actual song.

The Rocky theme.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 20 May 2004 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't you mean "La Marseillaise"?

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 20 May 2004 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Metro Tartan videos have a hilariously shit opener.

Enrique (Enrique), Thursday, 20 May 2004 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Gotta agree with the HBO theme song.

Another favorite of mine is the Fox Baseball theme.
