N, then H. All the others are pretty much intact.

I know it's pointless, but we may unlock some sort of universal truth.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Home row, motherfuckers.

Spinktor, Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

All pretty much the same from what I can tell.

I spilt wine on my keyboard and broke it before any keys could wear away.

What does that button to the left of the equals sign on my number bad do on my mac? It's a rectangle with a cross through it.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

space bar ho ho ho

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Yo, my space bar has been hittin' the chronic all morning. It's making my thumbs smell like Indonesia!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I cant believe i wrote home row, mutherfuckers. Uncalled for.

Spinktor, Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

The enter key. The little arror has almost completly disappeared. Strangely, ESC seems a little worse for wear, although why I've been pressing ESC enough for this to happen I don't know. Maybe I've been pressing it in my sleep.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Is this about which keys on your keyboard get ignored the most? Because that would be good old QZX for me.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

none are faded, but the [ ] keys are really extraordinarily dirty.

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Luna's been busy at that Aeon flux board

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

A
is the *only* really faded=rather illegible key on my 'board,
whereas all the NumLock keys just gather dust and I suspect they've been hardly touched at all over the last seven years.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

W and Ctrl - a.k.a. the "forward" and "crouch" keys for Counterstrike. My Ctrl key is now completely blank. I need help!

*goes to play CS again*

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 19:17 (twenty-two years ago)

that reminds me...FAITH NO MORE

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

T is the worst off - it's just a little horizontal bar now
O looks like a C
A and S are missing their lower right corners
H and N have taken some wear from being just to the right of my trackpoint.
Most amazing of all though is the small indent worn into the edge of the G key (just to the left of the trackpoint) from contact with the very end of my fingernail. My biology has triumphed (endurance wise) over mere plastic. IBM - I will break you!

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 20 May 2004 01:27 (twenty-two years ago)

N is the only one that shows fadedness, although the P was replaced at one point so keep that in mind.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 20 May 2004 02:04 (twenty-two years ago)

My spacebar is all shiny on the right side, and Ive only had this (work) kbd for a few months. Also strangely the left shift key is worn but not the right. I must rest my little finger there or something.

All the keys seem worn rather evenly but it seems q, z, x and u dont get much love. Or the numbers, cos I use the number pad instead.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 20 May 2004 02:04 (twenty-two years ago)

C, F, K, U

I Wish You Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 20 May 2004 02:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm, Autumn Almanac seems to have a bit of a typed cursing problem. ;)

Me:  D, C, N, M. The left Caps Lock seems to look a bit used, but not too much. Everything else looks rather surprisingly intact.

Those Beautiful Lines (Dee the Lurker), Thursday, 20 May 2004 02:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Ooh, I was just thinking about this today - people w/o the touch-typing skilz hate my keyboard - it's also a laptop, confusing them all the more. So, no: N, M, E, half an L, C, B, O, K, A and almost no S... (homerow has taken a beating). I've got the shiny-on-the-right-side spacebar too. (All the F-keys are dusty. And I just noticed the 'pause/break' key way up there in the right-hand corner. I don't even know what that means.)

I feel the absence of frills such as legible letters endears me to this old laptop more, so when it crashes I pull my hair out less.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Thursday, 20 May 2004 02:47 (twenty-two years ago)

The Alicia Keyes, obv.

Skottie, Thursday, 20 May 2004 05:34 (twenty-two years ago)

all keys still brilliantine, strangely, but i have worn the matte finish off the right side of the space bar, a smidge off the left as well, and also on the "open apple" i.e. Command key

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 20 May 2004 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I notice a trend withthe faded N's!

This university keyboard is not at all faded, just dirty.

lej --, Thursday, 20 May 2004 10:04 (twenty-two years ago)

U, R, A, L, G and Y.

Mine don't fade - in fact, they become brighter with use as they go shiny. My keyboard is black. Black as the night.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 20 May 2004 10:12 (twenty-two years ago)

H and A, Mark, H and A.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

My laptop is only a few weeks out of the box, so none of 'em.

robster (robster), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Barely anyone in the office, I'll go do some research, maybe even a graph!

TomB (TomB), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Someone asked me what I was looking for and I bottled it, hehe, told em I was looking for a pen(!) ...(my desk is notoriously messy with about a million pens scattered across it)

All the keyboards in the office are the same age, yet this one dude's keyboard looks like it has been wrestling with an angle grinder, gotta ask him about that tomorrow...

TomB (TomB), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

..oh, and all the keys pretty much look the same

TomB (TomB), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

A,S,E

the rest are pretty intact.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

none faded, but plenty are encrusted with a web of pubes! :[

ARL (Adrian Langston), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

mmmmm pube-webs

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

My work one is fairly pristine. Although F11 and Scroll Lock seem to have chocolate on them. At home... I can't remember any more as it's so long since the wretched thing worked. *sob, growl*

rrrobyn, Monday, 9 July 2007 22:01 (eighteen years ago)

rrrobyn, Monday, 9 July 2007 22:02 (eighteen years ago)

THAT IS SAD, HOW TO SYLLOGIZE, WHAT AM I AT HORMEL BACON COMMUNITY COLLEGE?

rrrobyn, Monday, 9 July 2007 22:39 (eighteen years ago)

ni jo leeeeeee, Monday, 9 July 2007 22:56 (eighteen years ago)

I really like that shorthand too, rrrobyn - it is in fact the only one I tend to use when taking notes (hm, except maybe '=/='), so I would very much like it on a keyboard.

All my keys seem fine. Maybe the 'a' is a little worn, and the bottom dot of '?'.

emil.y, Monday, 9 July 2007 23:02 (eighteen years ago)

New keyboard:

A is partially worn, as is E. N is almost completely gone. H is fading, and S has a bit missing, but nothing too bad.

luna, Monday, 9 July 2007 23:06 (eighteen years ago)

my keys update is for newer laptop (well, which is like almost 3 yrs old) but keys seem to be fading slower than on the compaq refered to upthread. E and O are suffereing as are N and S and a little of I. spacebar on this one is also shiny on the right side. there is a bald spot on mousepad off to the left of the middle and a bald spot on the left clicker key.
i am needing the mundane right now for some reason; had a keyed-up day. haha unintentional pun

rrrobyn, Monday, 9 July 2007 23:08 (eighteen years ago)

I had a keyboard for like five years at my old job. I was the only person to ever use it, and when I left there was a big dent worn in the space bar. Not shiny or smooth, an actual notch worn into it. It kind of made me sad.

joygoat, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 02:34 (eighteen years ago)

three years pass...

the letter "I" just fell off my keyboard. it was already starting to flake off, but just now it fell off completely, and I don't know where it went. "A", "S", and "O" are pretty flaky. the right side of my space bar is pretty shiny. maybe I should just scrape off all the letters to give my brain more of a workout. I "touch type" with my index fingers but look down at the keys occasionally when my fingers get off track.

why delonge face? (unregistered), Monday, 27 June 2011 22:25 (fourteen years ago)

three years pass...

"O" and "L" are completely gone now! The "A" is about two-thirds gone and the "S" is about half gone, but they're holding up surprisingly well after 3 years of decrepitude. "E", "H", "D", "N", and "M" are all looking a bit flaky these days. My typing skills have declined since 2011 and I sometimes forget what the blank keys are supposed to be :(
