why did 'wicked' persist? perhaps it's appeal lingered because it was a proper word with heavy meaning so twisting that gave a bigger thrill - abbreviating (perhaps the fundamental flaw with 'def') to 'wick' would've been wrong although would've complimented 'wack' nicely maybe
