Adults with Braces: C/D?

There is this cute girl in her twenties at the gym where I work and she got braces about a year ago, and she was really hot with braces. Now she doesn't have braces, and she's still hot, but I miss the braces.

Maybe she wears a retainer at night.

there was one girl i had a major crush on as a teen, who had braces. we worked in tesco together. i think the braces suited her, i run into her every now and again now that she's brace-free and i reckon she looked better with. anyway, i snogged her a couple of times, then she dumped me. :-( Braces = tales of woe.

I know a woman in her late-thirties with braces. They really suit her and it looks quite cool. I think once you get past a certain age then braces (aside from the dental benefits) are just like a piercing or tattoo or similar.

Gilles Meloche (Gilles Meloche), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 22 May 2004 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Calm down dear, it's only orthodontics.

I think potentially quite hot.

Ricardo (RickyT), Saturday, 22 May 2004 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

What about braces on adult men? So far all the braces = hot comments have been with regard to women.

i chatted with a woman yesterday who wore braces.

how can this be "classic" or "dud"? if you need braces, you need braces.

ten months pass...
OK I think I should get braces on my bottom teeth. A couple of them are badly crooked making it painful to floss them and I fear not getting them CLEAN. Should I do this? Is this lame?

I would, if you have insurance anyway. It might be too expensive otherwise.

Leon Jones Reynolds (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

You should consult with your dentist. My sister has the problem that her teeth are too close together so it makes it difficult to floss--and she has had braces twice. I think in this case if it's cleanliness that is the issue--you could schedule regular professional cleanings. I've had braces once--my teeth moved back to their original pattern, but I would never get braces again--unless a dentist told me that my health seriously depended it. You thinking flossing those teeth is painful, wait until you get braces, and rubber bands, and retainers, ouch!

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 01:18 (twenty-one years ago)

FYI--if your teeth are really crowded, they might pull some out (molars) and then try and space the other ones.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 01:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Does it really hurt that bad? :\

I don't have a dentist, either! It's really just the front two teeth on the bottom--one overlaps the other kind of a lot, the one is turned semi-sideways. I mean I'm not Jewel or anything but it's quite crooked.

I don't want them to touch the top teeth though, even though I have a v. bad overbite--do you think the dentist will insist though, if I get the bottom ones done?

xpost uck--I have too many teeth but they're all in good condition and seem to fit, other than the crowding on the front two. None of them hurt or anything, that seems so extreme :(

Allyzay do not obtain to make download of yours MP3 (allyzay), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 01:22 (twenty-one years ago)

my top two front teeth are v. crooked in the same way. it's ok flossing them, they just look pretty funny. can they do partial-mouth braces, though, or do they have to do the whole row?

Maria (Maria), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

It really hurt me--after I got my braces tightened my dad would take me out to lunch during the middle of the school day, and it hurt so bad I could hardly eat. But then I have like an insane intolerance for pain, I cried the first time I got ears pierced and i was a teenager, and there was like a 5-yr old next to me, with a smile on her face.

I've noticed that a lot of people have more crooked bottom teeth than they do top teeth--I'm not sure why! Hmm... for me the natural progression was that the dentist suggested when it was time to go to the orthodontist, and I was really sad bc my friends started getting braces in 5th and 6th grade and it was cool!!! and by the time i got braces -- eigth grade--it was not cool anymore and I went my first two years of high school with braces:(

But your teeth feel really smooth when you finally get them taken off. I would say, just go to one orthodontist for a consulation, and if you don't like what he says, you are not forced to do anything. Just don't go back!

In terms of cleaning though, it's really important to go to a dentist. I've been trying to convince myself to go for the past two years, I'll get there one day! it's mostly genetics though, if your family has good teeth you are probably okay.

Also, they have see-through braces, and braces on the inside of your teeth now.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 01:31 (twenty-one years ago)

(I had all my wisom teeth pulled courtesy of the orthodontist. It doesn't hurt at all, bc they put you under, but then your cheeks puff way out and feel all numb and my friends called me a chipmunk for days.)

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

This has reminded me of the line "flossin' all through Long Beach" from some g-funk track, maybe "Summertime in the LBC"?

Also, I've never had braces, but I'm wondering if I should get them on my bottom teeth as well.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 01:43 (twenty-one years ago)

They can do wonders with retainers and other mouth apparatuses, so you may not need full-on braces - or maybe you'll only need braces for a short time? I've been thinking about more orthodontics too, to correct my bite, which has deviated a bit since I had my braces off, oh, 12 years ago. I had braces and mouth apparatuses from age 12-18 (holy crap, yes) even though my mouth and jaw appeared quite normal (apparently as I grew my chin would have receded, and that's no good, hence the years of mouth torture during those growing years...) I don't recall it affecting me socially at all really - my top braces were clear though, which does make a difference in appearance. Ultimately though, no one really cares and it's a temporary situation on the road to an Even More Beautiful You.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 01:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Well if I were to get braces I wouldn't get clear ones, I'd get them right on the front, with garishly colored bands so everyone can see that I'm wearing braces!

Allyzay do not obtain to make download of yours MP3 (allyzay), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to sometimes hang earrings from them! but usually only in drama class or at home. I thought it was hi-larious though.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 01:53 (twenty-one years ago)

and by the time i got braces -- eigth grade--it was not cool anymore and I went my first two years of high school with braces

You know what's worse than that: getting braces a month before 16 and getting them taken off a month before 18. My father's way of making sure I was a dateless teenager. *sigh*

Candicissima (candicissima), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 01:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, and a caveat: make sure you have strong healthy gums b/c braces can irritate and cause gums to recede. It may not be a problem for short-term braces wear, but after 3+ years of them, my gums were looking older than they should've. And now I'm looking at some gum grafts in the near future. Fun!
