As for the relationship between tattoos, football and hooliganism - perhaps if lots of non-hoolies get visible tats like Dave's, then tattoos will gradually LOSE their association with violence. But it's a silly idea, I think.

Are tattoos really that big of a deal there? I can't imagine a sports star here being called a biker b/c of his tats (or even that name being given much of a negative connotation)

The funny thing about the BBC story is not the story itself, but the responses to it. Whilst the general demographic of ppl who post comments on websites prolly doesn't overlap much with the demographic of those who send comments to Points of View, most of the comments on that webpage suggest that, well, they are the SAME PEOPLE...I'm even imagining the bbc voiceover ppl in my head as I read them!

I was reminded of this comment when listening to the Today programme this morning on Radio 4 when they had a report on the Chelsea Flower Show - maybe I should make the same comment on the BBC's Chelsea Flower Show webpage (I'm sure there must be one)...i.e. that I thought that it was SICK that people took and interest in trivial things like FLOWERS when people are being killed in Baghdad, soldiers being shot at, and children being bombed!
