lets have a thread about bobby driscoll. i think mainly for his appearance in The Window, but maybe for other things too. Should he be more famous than he is, or is it about right? He seems to have been forgotten somewhat? but maybe the tragic original model for the child actor unable to make transition, descent into drugs, jail, poverty, early death etc

but, the window!

no, i think thats much later on, i havent seen that one. the window is 1949, its a noir about a boy who witnesses a crime but no one believes him

i dont really know much about him, just this great film, and then the fact that he never made it as an adult, and died in poverty in the 60s, unidentified, forgotten and unknown

i think i've seen that. yes, it is a tragedy. wasn't walt disney fostering the boy to become a big star? i think he won an oscar for 'songs from the south'. didn't he die in lower eastside of new york, od'ed on bad junk and it took months for people to realise it was bobby driscoll?

yea, thats right, i guess he was in such bad shape, people didnt realise, i dont know. i dont know if hed been forgotten by then, and got more well known again posthumuously, or whether he still had some fame or not at that point.

what do you think of the bob markley, michael lloyd and harris brothers stories doomie? i started a bunch of wcpaeb/markley/smoke threads on ilm, i thought you might answer, maybe you didnt see them

not seen them -- will read them later on tonight. party crashers was that film he did with frances farmer. is incredibly sad: it was the first film that frances did after her lobotomy and sixteen years away from the movies and the last film that driscoll did.

yeah, he was completely forgotten about by then ... he od'ed in the same area that the window was shot (that was his first film) -- i don't know why i got the window and the party crashers confused.

there is great quote about bobby -- about him being the only non-repellant child actor -- from a prestigious nyc film critic.
