ILX just let me post. Am I still blocked? What's going on?

I don't know why I'm bothering to type this post as it surely won't let me go through.

not really kate, Monday, 24 May 2004 07:10 (twenty-two years ago)

If I just disappear, it wasn't me, I don't know what happened.

Eddies in the space time continuum.

not really kate, Monday, 24 May 2004 07:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 24 May 2004 07:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Any minute now, this portal will disappear, leaving me cold and shivering and crying out for the san grail to come back and feed me.

I have no idea how long this will last. The network must be down or something.

not really kate, Monday, 24 May 2004 07:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I blame the Knights Templar, clearly. And the bloody Merovingians.

Let's talk about the Grail legends and the bizarre right wing extremist conspiracy mythology. It's them blocking me from ILX, I just know it.

not really a de St. Claire either, Monday, 24 May 2004 07:17 (twenty-two years ago)

How come you got blocked?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 24 May 2004 07:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no idea. I have no idea why ILX has just come back on, either. I haven't been able to get access for two weeks. And now it's just back.

Eddies. In the space-time continuum. And this is his sofa.

I found The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail on remainder. I don't care if it's all a right wing hoax, it is the best book ever.

Let's talk about the Templars! Let's talk about the Grail! Let's talk about the Merovingians. I like the Merovingians, they never cut their hair, they were the Dirty Dronerock Holy Roman Emperors.

not really kate, Monday, 24 May 2004 07:22 (twenty-two years ago)

What the fuck are you talking about? Can you be a bit more lucid? That would help me figure out if the problem is on my end.

Andrew (enneff), Monday, 24 May 2004 07:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Calm down, dear, it's just the internet.

I spoke to Noodles all last week about it, and apparently it was nothing to do with your end. We both just figured that I'd been blocked at work.

My server is now behaving very oddly. I can't get into my database for more than 30 seconds at a time, but I can get on the interweb again.

I have to talk about server problems all the doo dah day, and now I just want to talk about the Knights Templar, the Merovingian Line and other whackadoo conspiracy theories of the middle ages and Enlightenment.

They invented the travellers cheque, you know! Those clever Knights!

not really kate, Monday, 24 May 2004 07:39 (twenty-two years ago)

"Calm down"? eh?

(I would obviously have titled this thread more clearly if I had thought it was actually going to go through.)

((Thanks, Pash, is that Dagobert II or Dagobert III?)

not really kate, Monday, 24 May 2004 07:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Polish winged hussar!!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 24 May 2004 07:43 (twenty-two years ago)

http://northernway.org/school/merovqueen.jpg

This is a Merovingian Queen. She could kick your Polish Winged Hussar's ass with her bloodline tied behind her back!

not really kate, Monday, 24 May 2004 07:46 (twenty-two years ago)

.. and here's me thinkin youse were either on Holiday, or had actually managed to break the habit...

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 24 May 2004 07:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I should be so lucky...

According to my lovely big book o'conspiracies the St.Claire family are actually the legitimate heirs to the Merovingian line. So next time someone asks me "Who do you think you are? Jesus Christ?" I can reply, "Well, actually..."

(Nota Bene: Yes, I know that my name isn't really St.Claire. I made it up. But so did the last pretender to the throne of the Holy Roman Empire! So hah!)

not really kate, Monday, 24 May 2004 07:52 (twenty-two years ago)

.. It worked for the Windsors too

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 24 May 2004 07:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't be silly. They're not Merovingians, they're Twelve Foot Lizards.

not really kate, Monday, 24 May 2004 08:03 (twenty-two years ago)

well, look out Hong Kong, then.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 24 May 2004 08:08 (twenty-two years ago)

my hair looks nice today

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 May 2004 08:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Kate says that her portal has closed & again she has been booted off ILX, so goodbye to you all.
That is all.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 24 May 2004 08:27 (twenty-two years ago)

30 seconds. Will this go through? Our network is fucked. I think my browser has been hijacked again. OK, wait, no, I KNOW my browser has been hijacked.

not kate, Monday, 24 May 2004 09:08 (twenty-two years ago)

your browser has been hijacked by ad-ware?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 24 May 2004 09:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes. How do I get rid of it? My anti-virus software doesn't want to do anything about it.

I kept trying to get to ILX, and I got diverted to some sucky advert site instead. :-(

not kate, Monday, 24 May 2004 09:13 (twenty-two years ago)

The 2 programs I use are bho demon and ad aware, i'll find some urls.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 24 May 2004 09:17 (twenty-two years ago)

either or both of these should get rid of browser hijacks.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 24 May 2004 09:17 (twenty-two years ago)

i've had to install Ad-Aware after accidentally triggering some awful spyware to install itself on my machine here at work. i've removed it but it's still there, launching pop-ups (even tho my Google toolbar has pop-ups disabled), NavHelper is still running and highlighting words like 'car', 'hotel' and 'tits', even tho i uninstalled this as well, and everything seems slower. argh help...

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 May 2004 09:19 (twenty-two years ago)

NavHelper (assuming it still is that) even inserted html into my post just then for certain keywords, wtf?!

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 May 2004 09:19 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah there's loads just put in adware in google, I used CWShredder but that was for Spyware so not sure if it removes adware stuff as well.

xpost, Stevem try the CWShredder program.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 24 May 2004 09:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Since I switched to "opera", I get none of this shit btw. I mean, if "opera" is not to your tastes, that's not much of a solution, but I like it a lot, I must admit.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 24 May 2004 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't get into my database for more than 30 seconds at a time, but I can get on the interweb again.

sounds like a damn fine deal to me...welcome back!

colette (a2lette), Monday, 24 May 2004 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Can Merovingian Queen's horses, tin soldiers and Ad-Aware, then, jolt Kate and ilx back together again?

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Monday, 24 May 2004 09:25 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks Ste i've switched to Firebird also which may help things

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 May 2004 09:38 (twenty-two years ago)

SOmeone at my company must have gone to lunch because I can read ILX again for a few minutes. I don't know what's going on around here. I suspect that someone was on my computer or on the network while I was away, installing some kind of crazy music download programme, and it's fuXored my machine.

(This may be related to, but not the same as my previous problems with ILX access cause those were happening at home, as well.)

not really kate, Monday, 24 May 2004 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Now I am getting pop up ad messages every time I change site, every time I refresh the browser and every time I should get a DNS server error. Will try one of those scrubber programmes.

NRK, Monday, 24 May 2004 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm still getting pop-ups so it can't be a CoolSearch thing (CS Shredder did its thing). where are these bloody pop-ups coming from?? also sometimes when using Google i get a stupid page 1 that replaces actual results with gaye 'search for X' dubious sponsored links guff. bah.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 May 2004 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

As useful as this info is, I still wish it had been a discussion about the holy grail and the knights templar. Boo hiss, etc.

not really kate, Monday, 24 May 2004 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

humph.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 24 May 2004 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

i am in the same situation. new firewalls set up at work had me thinking i was banned form ilx, but i seem to be able to sometimes access threads, as long as i click on them a second time after i get the "page prohibited" message the first time.

but i can't really be bothered with all of that

kephm, Monday, 24 May 2004 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks Sean, i'm baffled as to why it is doing that

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 May 2004 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I have it on good authority that my family is the heir of the Metropolitan Line. But then the Northern Line got jealous and Edgware ate my computer connection.

Hope kate's connection is gonna work better though.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 24 May 2004 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

We have a computer expert in today. He's mucking about and telling us that our server is shite. He's moved our database onto one of the PC's and now suddenly my database and my internet connection are back to lightning speed. I've no idea how much longer this will last...

AUCKLAND : Scientists using a camera to monitor a remote New Zealand volcano over the Internet have struck an odd problem - a pink dinosaur.

New Zealand's Geological and Nuclear Sciences (GNS) have installed a digital camera in the crater of the volcano which makes up most of White Island in the Bay of Plenty, east of Auckland.

The often active volcano draws tourists by boat but most people do not go ashore on the uninhabited, rumbling island.

To keep a close watch, GNS installed a digital camera on the island and post a shot taken every hour on their website.

But suddenly a pink dinosaur has appeared in the shot.

"Some wag has glued a pink dinosaur in front of our digital camera," GNS' John Callan said.

"A number of people have been emailing us asking what the dinosaur is all about."

They are not planning on removing it, counting on the sulphur and high acid environment to deal to the creature.

It keeps coming and going but it isn't constant. I'm wondering if it's worth bothering trying to log in again.

I'm also wondering if it's worth bothering waiting for that giant picture above to load. :-(

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (Reuters) -- A motion sensor found on Philadelphia rail tracks that raised concern about possible terrorism was planted by an employee hoping to be warned of approaching bosses while he slept on the job, officials said Monday.

I took the "What Office Moron Are You?" quiz and got "I Work In IT And That Makes Me Better Than You."

If I changed one answer, I got Paranoid Boss, but I'm a consultant, not a boss. Sigh.
