Foam Mattresses: worth the cash?

I need a new mattress. There's a sale on the super-posh Sonno foam mattresses going on. Anyone have any experience with the foam mattresses?

I'm only tempted to spend the cash because I think it might suit us well--mr teeny is like twice my weight at least and I think my sleep is suffering when he turns over in his sleep, what with the bouncing and all. We're getting a king-size, though, this should help too.

I had a horrible experience with a foam mattress and foam pillows. I couldn't breathe, I couldn't sleep, I thought I was going crazy. However, this wasn't a posh foam, but rather a foam bought from a futon store. I returned the mattress and would have returned the pillows, but they wouldn't let me, as they said they smelled like my hair. Fear the foam.

What's wrong w/yr hair's smell, anyway?

can you stash your cash in a foam mattress?

UNDER, man. W/the porn.

if you mean the nasa-type foam teeny i hear it's fantastic. I have one of those $25 foam pillows and it's wonderful. can't sleep on anything else now. I imagine the whole mattress would be awesome.

Anybody have a Leesa, Casper, or Tuft & Needle mattress? Would you recommend?

I'm waiting until I move but I'm likely going Tuft & Needle. Reviews seem to indicate that it sleeps cooler than the others.

Echoing the question above, but adding Helix into the conversation as well.

What's good, bad, other? Do you get what you pay for?

I've had a Helix for almost 7 years and I like it. I was able to go to their showroom and try out different levels of firmness to find my ideal one (which is evidently slightly firmer than average). The mattress is constructed in layers of different material so that it doesn't get too hot, unlike a previous memory foam one I had from another brand.

I prefer a firmer mattress too. The Tempur-Pedic I've had for about 12 years started off that way, but started to give out incrementally after 3 or 4, so I'm glad to hear a Helix (or any other non-legacy brand) holds up for at least 7.

Our household compromise is the usual spring mattress, but a memory foam mattress topper. The topper makes everything better, from a bed to a (flat) futon.

That's basically what the Helix mattress is, in one piece. It's got coils on the inside and a foam layer on top of that.
