So - do the two ever go togethor, for you? Do you eroticise people in "normal" subcultures for being "real"? Has your indiebrain rendered them somehow exotic? Are you okay with doing it, intellectually? Has this been discussed before?

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 09:01 (twenty-two years ago)

(I fully expect 200 "so yr saying 'indie people' shld only date each other, wtf?" posts, that's not my point at all, honest! I am sincerely curious.)

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 09:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I am indie. I crush on goths. I wouldn't say goths are normal, though.

caitlin (caitlin), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 09:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Its more that phony-ness is a turn-off, more than the inverse being true, I think. At least with me.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 10:17 (twenty-two years ago)

'indie people' shld only date each other, wtf?
Oh hang on....

I preferred the sex before she sold out.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

it was better in small dark places with fewer ppl watching!

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

...and where you didn't have to pay as much to get in!

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

and she was the support.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

and you paid for your rider up front.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 10:29 (twenty-two years ago)

In the days when you were hopelessly poor, I just liked you more.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I find a greater proportion of indie people to be phony than vice versa.

"Its more that phony-ness is a turn-off, more than the inverse being true, I think."

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah. So this is why I feel weird about perving on assorted members of the Walkmen.

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

"bass amp"

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Is Indie guilt more fun than Catholic guilt or less?

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

the walkmen aren't indies. they're preppies. that's a class unto itself.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

sex & preppie guilt: c/d?

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Salt and pepper vs. sex and preppies

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I do feel guilty for crushing on the Walkmen sometimes, and now I know why

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

what the fuck is this thread about? people think like this, whoa

kephm, Tuesday, 25 May 2004 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't get the thread neither. Can you explain further?

the bluefox, Tuesday, 25 May 2004 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

please?

kephm, Tuesday, 25 May 2004 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

OK! I will try!

I guess I was thinking something like: I have indie guilt. A lot of it comes from ILX. I'm not saying this is laudable or bad or anything, but it's there. I have a part of my brain that tends to go, on a knee-jerk level "indie bad pop good", and then pass it off as anti-rockism. I'm virtually certain that I'm not alone in this, on this board.

It seems like a kinda natural contortion to turn this knee-jerk indie bad pop good thing into "indie unsexy pop sexy". I /do/ do this. I see girls who look like lost members of Atomic Kitten, and I fancy them, more than I used to. I'm not crazy about this. I kinda wish I didn't: it seems lame at best and nastily classist at worst (also I have no chance).

How about you?

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait. I might not be white?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

i once made a girl give me a handjob to al stewarts "year of the cat". I didn't feel guilty at all.

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

(I mean, we could talk about how what you believe affects who you fancy, or about pulling people within and without yr (muscial) subculture, or you could call me the lyrics to Common People, or whatever y'all want. I'm easy. )

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't have any rules to whom I am attracted to, other than they be female and I, uh, be attracted to them.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

(I am confused why people keep bringin' in race, a bit. Not critical, though. Confused.)

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

girls of all races are sexy, d00d!

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

YES

Be sure to Loop! Loop, Loop, Loop. (ex machina), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, yeah, no question there!

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)
