Increasingly, at work and at home, I'm getting these phonecalls. You pick up the phone, there's a pause, and this canned message cuts in - "congratulations!! you've..." "important information fo...." that's as far as it gets coz I hang up. WTF? How can this method of advertising possibly be effective, surely all it does is annoy people b/c it's such a bloody nuisance!!

OTOH, there is something about it which makes me laugh - the kind of implicit insult in the method - "we scoured the world looking for the very cheapest labour to man our call centres, but you're not even worth that - here, eat this recorded message".

Gah.

That's quite funny and very illegal. You should prob. tell BT.

"Greetings, friends. Do you wish to look as happy as me? Well, you've got the power inside you right now. So use it and send one dollar to Happy Dude, 742 Evergreen Terrace, Springfield. Don't delay. Eternal happiness is just a dollar away."

i get lots inviting me to visit loverly disneyland in america. but i stopped answering the phone until i know how is calling some time ago so it ends up with my machine talking to their machine.

which is how i believe all that matrix nonsense started and how we ended up just being batteries...

We rang a phone number that appeared on a web pop up.

The resulting conversation was confusing.

N: "Suckers at home during the day" maybe.

Pink, I know! I should've said something sassy back ("what makes you think I'd WANT yer skanky mattress, FOOL"), rather than hanging up. The only reason I picked up was because the phone kept ringing and ringing, like 20 times, and since we don't have a machine I had to make it STOP.

xpost heh heh more often than not I get people asking 'is this Mrs. Ca$ar0tt0?'

sgs (sgs), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

and that was just us calling!

i want to get an answering machine at our flat just so that i could record arnold schwartzenegger saying "I AM.. A MACHINE" as the message.

Spam SMS is quite common in the UK. It's the reason I turn my phone off at night.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 11:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Yea my email address for my phone is [email protected]. DUH
