Celebrity Value

As Stephen Fry said after winning Celebrity Mastermind: "This award attests not so much to the extent of my erudition, it's yet more evidence that we are all headless and stumbling in the epoch of celebrity." What can be done about society's rancid and rampant interest in celebrity heat?

i figured that the internet and reality tv would actually bring about the death of celebrity (famous for not just 15 seconds, or as Momus put it or quoted elsewhere '15 people') but perhaps not. certain people out there are still idolised (Eminem, Beckham) although more are bitched about because they are deemed undeserving of adulation, but they are still talked about all the time (Jade Goody an example in the UK) and are not really despised as such. how you deter that: keep pushing it and it will surely burst.

It comes down to who the 'media' think we all care about, one way or the other.

e.g. Documentaries about Christina Aguilera's fabulous life, followed by Christina Ag 'exposed' slagging off type documentary. They figure, thats the whole demographic covered.

you should've put 'we' as well really, as the mainstream press have a seemingly easy job in identifying which slebs to focus on - it's chicken and egg perhaps tho.
