I think that we need a defining something so that all ilx's can be identified anywhere anytime...perhaps we should all tattoo our foreheads...

ILE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, Tuesday, 25 May 2004 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I have identified by my walk. This mystifies me, to be honest.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

We're the ones out there saying things like "OMG WTF" when spotting new albums on display at our favourite store. But I'm thinking that we should get t-shirts made with this on the front:

http://ox.eicat.ca/~scarruthers/ilx/ilx-c-or-d.jpg

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk
I’m an ILXor, no time to talk
Music loud and women warm, I’ve been kicked around
Since I was born

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Whenever we walk past a speaker, it starts playing "Fly Life".

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe there should be an ilx store on cafepress so dorks who want them could order tshirts.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Sean's design is HOTTT. I'd buy it.

Be sure to Loop! Loop, Loop, Loop. (ex machina), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Using "rockist" in casual conversation might give it away.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

sean i wasn't calling you a dork. i'd probably actually wear that c/d one. well i guess not just you.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Hahah Sean you NERD! That memory card is the best thing EVER. The fact I am so amused by all the details shows how nerdy I am too :(

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I really want that C/D shirt. I can make a better (higher res) design tonight if anyone is interested?

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Sean, those designs are ridiculously hott.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been spotted by my stance, halfway through a bar from the sidewalk. That was the same night we ran into Chuck.

Does that mean if Gates buys ILX, we all become rich?

Leee's a Simpson (Leee), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 23:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually Jim's point is a bit scary.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I was trying to find a pic of ILX jam to make a logo out of and wondering why I couldnt, til I realised its actually IXL jam and now I feel dyslexic :(

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

dilxsic?

Leee's a Simpson (Leee), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe someone could put a little TM somewhere on the front page:

ilXor.com ™

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Alas, unlike copyright, a TM alone doth not endow trademark on a name... someone should register it! heh.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

™ is common law trademark
® is registered trademark

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 23:28 (twenty-two years ago)

By the way, if anyone wants a t-shirt sized version of the C/D ILX logo:

http://ox.eicat.ca/~scarruthers/ilx/c-or-d-large.jpg
http://ox.eicat.ca/~scarruthers/ilx/c-or-d-large.tif

I have used a different version of the logo to remove the white inside the letters on the top portion, to be more like the original artwork.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 00:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Iron-on transfers, here I come!

i am now reinvisioning Gear's story with an ILX trucker hat. swap 'Jimmy Eat World' and 'Weezer' for 'Dizzee Rascal' and 'Killing Joke' though.

Dave M. (rotten03), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

C'mon, the thong was there, how could I NOT offer one, if only just to see if anyone actually BUYS one?

(Yeah, like anyone's gonna buy ANY of these.)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 02:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Just what everyone always wanted, lingerie that asks your sex partners to rate you right up front.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 02:42 (twenty-two years ago)

This evening when I went out I thought to myself "I just KNOW I'm going to run into an ilxor." Then an hour later I saw o. nate on Houston St.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 04:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I swear to fucking god. When I get back to the big smoke I am ordering one or more of those thongs. Just to spite you stinkypants.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 05:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Please spite me with your money. For extra fun, post photos of yourself wearing the thongs. You will have an entirely new fan club!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 05:13 (twenty-two years ago)

according to that Microsoft ILX design link:

"we need common subsets of language constructs that make sense in most
or all languages... ILX represents the design and implementation of one
such set of constructs"

did no one see this thread?! --> ILX Gang Sign

i've been perfecting it for weeks!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Have you overcome yr FAP-aversion, Enrique? There *will* be an OxFAP soon, so T-shirt purchase may not be necessary.

I met someone whose parents live on Western Rd last night - one of Colette's IRL friends.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you remember the ILX logos? Ppl designed different ones and they went up on the site in turn. I suggested we get those made into T-shirts and I seem to remember there was a lot of opposition to the idea - Tom in particular was dead against it.

Let's see if I can find the thread.....

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

this was one of the threads I was thinking of.

and this was the other.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I think there was a lot of confusion there. The logos = excellent. Having the logos on the front page = a fine experiment, but not really a long-term thing. Actual merchandise = twee nonsense.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 11:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Actual merchandise = twee nonsense.

i assume you're not implying that ilxors wouldn't pay good money for twee nonsense?

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

No, I'm just muddying the waters until I can get my range of twee nonsense to market first.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Me and Jarlr'mai have just been on a rather silly photoshop tip. We tried putting together the usual Geir/Southall/Marisa Marchant combos with the t-shirts, thongs etc. but the lack of arms and general etc.ness meant we just got silly. I won't put them all up, but just be sure that it descended quite quickly into shit like this.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 12:14 (twenty-two years ago)

By the way. Its S and D, not or, Search And Destroy.

Dear god in heaven, you're right. I have fixed this up and am offering new logos (apologies to A Nairn for wasting his model's time):

http://ox.eicat.ca/~scarruthers/ilx/s-and-d-large.jpg
http://ox.eicat.ca/~scarruthers/ilx/s-and-d-large.tif

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha, wasting time. Isn't that the ultimate goal of ILX?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Sinister folks used to wear upside down Belle and Sebastian badges for identification purposes. This, silly and twee as it may sound, actually worked, as it's how I met Carsmilesteve. (And Jerry the Nipper, I think.)

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 27 May 2004 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

badges = pins, jon. god, you uncultured fuck.

i want a pin that says "rockist." that i could wear upside down. then you'd know it was me.

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 27 May 2004 07:01 (twenty-two years ago)

What does badge mean in America then? It must mean *something* or else Dylan wouldn't have written

Momma take this badge off of me
I can't use it anymore

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 27 May 2004 07:21 (twenty-two years ago)

A badge in America is like a patch you sew on like when you win an activity badge in Scouting or somesuch, or a metallic thing as worn by cops. What the British call a badge (when not meaning the thing a cop wears), Americans call a 'button' as in 'campaign buttons'. Everything clear now?

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 27 May 2004 07:31 (twenty-two years ago)

so whats a pin then?

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 27 May 2004 07:44 (twenty-two years ago)

so what's a pin?

xpost/hive mind...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 27 May 2004 07:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd say a pin is more like a small metal/enamel object (like a prefect's badge, fastened with either a placket thingy or the safetypin-like closure method) and not to be confused with US 'badge'or 'button'.

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 27 May 2004 07:47 (twenty-two years ago)

i use 'pin' and 'button' interchangably. but i'll buy suzy's classifications, because they sound sensible...

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 27 May 2004 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

considering that an image search for the word "rockist" gave me this, we should put it on our pin
