Do you or does anyone close to you spend a lot of time on the sunbed?

I would imagine that very few ilxors do actually, but I am curious about this. There was an item on the news on Monday abt how doctors are very concerned about the amount of time ppl are spending getting fake tans and the attendant skin cancer risk.

I think we (the Irish) have one of the highest rates of skin cancer i Europe. Apparently primary schools are sending out notes asking parents not to put First Holy Communicants (average age, 7) on the sunbeds before the big day. We know about class, we do.

there was a woman who used to work here who was 27 but looked at least 37. A colleague who went to school with her said that this was because she spent so much time on the sunbed.

I suspect that the crispy orange girl who sits opposite me in the office has a bit of an addiction to the electric tan.

I like the chain smoking Cockney woman on Wife Swap: "I ain't wasting money on them sunbeds, they give ya cancer!" (said between puffs from her 50 a day habit)

Most of my colleagues are deeply into sunbeds and all have a nasty orange tinge.

I personally find it quite unattractive, especially when people have fair hair (regardless of whether their hair is natural or dyed). The historical basis for being tanned (or not being tanned) is quite intriguing in itself - originally it was considered a bad thing in Europe, coz it meant you were a prole who toiled all day out of doors. Then it became a good thing, a status symbol, as it meant you could afford foreign hols. Now everyone can afford foreign hols it is still considered a good thing, oddly.

...even tho ppl in the public eye get made fun of if tey have the "nasty orange tinge" Leigh describes! OK so David Dickinson and Des O'Connor get made fun of for other reasons too, but...
